I need some advice

My ps2 is definitely on it's way out. Sometimes when there's a break in play on pes3 it just goes black and takes up to 30secs or so to come back but this is becoming more and more frequent so it's looking like it needs replacing.

So, I have a few options:

- Leave it and hope it can pull through (not looking likely at the moment)
- Buy a new standard ps2 and wait impatiently for pes4
- Buy a chipped ps2 and get we8 although I know I'd only use the chip for this game while I wait for pes4 to be released. Seems like a lot of money for only a few months of play. However, I may look into patching pes4 if my ps2 was chipped.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

If this keep's on happening, i personaly would buy a new ps2 because it would do my head-in, havin to wait every time I play a match in pes4/we8

Maybe I have the solution for you...

No matter what, eventually you'll need a new PS2 anyways. So wait and hope your PS2 makes it till PES4 is out of the question here. Thats just asking for trouble there... So that leaves two options. It all depends on how thick your wallet is... Money enough? Go buy a chipped PS2 with a copy of WE8. Wallet not too thick? Then you'll have to wait for PES4.... It takes a long time, especially when you hear all the stories for the blokes that are already playing WE8. I'd say, you have to buy a PS2 anyways, so better spent some more and get a chipped PS2. The time WE9 is coming you'd be happy you did....

We don't know yet but WE8 or WE8:I could turn out to be better than PES4, just like WE7:IJ is the best version out now.

I'd go for the chipped option if it was me. You will be playing more than just WE8 - patched WE8 and patched PES4!! And you can play other Japanese games that are released earlier over there.

Right mate a similar thing has happened to me.
U should contact sony and they gave me the option of getting a new free ps2 thathas been refurbished or they ofer u a brand new ps2 for £60. I hope this can help u tell me if u get a new one good luck!!!

Get a new one. Even if you get it repaired, some other problems could arise within a few months.

My PS2's laser is knackered and I'm gonna have to pay £75 to get it repaired. I'll probably just end up getting a new PS2 though, seeing as they're nearly that price some places anyway.

The thing that puts me off a chipped one is obviously the price but I'd be prepared to pay it (just) if it was an English game I was getting but the fact that I'd be playing in Japanese makes me think against it.

Oh the turmoil.

You can patch it so WE8 will be all in English. Not difficult once you try it a couple of times. And well worth the effort.

How soon after the release will an English patch be available? I have no problem doing this as long as it's easy enough, I just can't stand waiting for pes4 while others are playing we8!

We don't know just yet. It depends on how much encryption is in the new game. The language part of the game should be fairly simple to get done and a decent translation patch should be available about 2 weeks after release (based on past games). As for full patches with kits etc it depends on encryption and could take a bit longer.

I'm not sure if I can afford to buy a chipped ps2, will the fact that my ps2 isn't the greatest make it less likely to work with a slide card or will it be just the same as any ordinary games?

Also, where's the best place to get a slide card/swap magic? I'm not bothered by the hassle of swapping every time I wanna play, is there any other disadvantages with this method?

Cheers guys

Who said that WE9 or PES5 will be on PS2 Cyrax?

I did. I presume it will be, don't see a reason why not. I don't believe the PS3 will be out a year from now, and I don't think Konami won't release WE9/PES5 on the number 1 selling console.

If you ring Sony they will replace your PS2 with a refurbished one for £60

I don't have any of the info though like receipts or anything cos i bought it second hand. Is the refurbished one with a guarantee?

You don't need receipts or anything, a delivery bloke will come and collect your old PS2 and give you a new one.

But the refurbished ones aren't brand new don't forget...

Ok, thanks,

one thing i really want to know is if using a slide card is just like having a chip but you have to swap disks every time you boot up? anyone who uses this method who can help?

Only bad thing about the slide card/swap magic is that some games dont work cos of the high TOC of some games (about 5% of all PS2 games).

Well the only thing I really care about is we8, but I guess no-one will know if that works until it comes out.
