If I told you that there were no lame goals on FIFA 2008.......

Yeah..... I have never quite seen where people are coming from when they all say that FIFA looks better cos it dont. For me, PES 2008 'looks' better in every department from player likeness to the much smoother sprite animations.

Assuming you have actually played FIFA 08 on a next gen console....you may well be right and I may be well be wrong as I have only had about 20 or so games on it.......all against my mates.

But from what I am hearing from guys who have played it a lot, online and offline, is that there are no blatant exploit goal types emerging......(aside from a rather didgy method of scoring from halfway line right from kick off)

Yeah, well having said that I never played against a mate, so maybe for multi player its different!!

and crossing from halfway along the box and heading in is pretty stone wall like i mentioned, well i found anyway, against mates its bound to be different, always is.

I got fifa the morning it came it out, played one match and went back to Pro Evo. Couple of nights ago i decided to give fifa a proper try and it turns out it geniunly is a decent game - deffinetly an improvement on last year.

Only down side - Kris Boyd (value) £11million

To be honest mate, I think it is, once i'd figured out to cross from a certain point and with a tall striker you can almost guarantee it will beat the keeper.

Obviously the licences and official kits are a huge plus for Fifa and always have been since they had them, but i've noticed despite the fact you can tell some players apart, they all seem to look the same, with that strange grumpy looking face, its a bit weird, do you know what I mean?

What difficulty do you play on?

I used to LOVE Fifa, played it at a m8s house every year until i finally got a PS2 and bought Fifa 2004. Eventually after dismissing it for years i played Pro 4, since then ive bought both games every year and really enjoyed them both but after playing that Fifa 08 demo on my PS3 i will NOT be buying Fifa anytime soon, maybe the final version is different but i dont want to take any chances on a game im not sure about cos when you can score a 45 yard belter with LUCIO of Bayern Munich...LUCIO people, you should be scared.........LUCIO....how?

I bought FIFA 2008 for PS3 because i wanted to experience hd football. Went back to PES 6 after a few games.

Gameplay is everything! PES 2008 will be the best simulation so far.

I don't agree with people "playing a couple of games" or "playing a few days" of FIFA and then burying it. As I said in the comments area on the main page, that's typical FIFA boy behavior towards PES, so if I ever try a promising FIFA, I'll at least give it a fair shot... a fair shot being a whole season or more, on the hardest difficulty against the AI, and a lot of games of 1 on 1 against human opponents. Or maybe even a whole year, just as I did with PES 6, a game that I really never got to like very much.

The point is, as PES fans, you should know that it takes time to "enjoy" a deep football game. My first 6 months with Winning Eleven 3 were incredibly frustrating for me as a hardcore FIFA player, but they were also fascinating. A feeling I kinda have while playing next-gen FIFA.

I haven't played more than a few games yet because I don't have a 360 or a PS3, and I'm not planning to buy one. But I've seen people play live and through videos, against the AI and against other people, and some things about it look amazing. Particularly the pace, and the building up of a play, which are completely different from recent iterations of both FIFA or PES. No doubt it has its flaws, but so does PES, with the difference that we've all learned to live with PES defects and some people even defend them (the so-called "FIFA boy" behaviour again).

We are just too used to PES and how it works, good and bad things alike, and if its hard to give a new PES a chance every year, imagine switching titles! I honestly think you have to play a lot of FIFA (THIS one particularly, which seems to be quite deep) to get into it, just like you had to play a lot of PES 1 (or 2, or 3...) to get into it as well.

to be honest i've never understood the behaviour of brand-loyal people, i can understand it if you work for Konami or Electronic Arts, but otherwise it's bollocks. I love playing Pro Evo and the last FIFA game i enjoyed was FIFA RTWC 98, since then i've played most of them and found them poor games with loads of features and teams, just like this year. Yes it's a big improvement, but i thought last years was also a big improvement, but still not a great game. It's good, and it can be addictive, but it hasn't got that realism that Pro Evo has, and as for easy goals, FIFA has them, don't you worry, it has them. As for graphics, since FIFA 2000 i've thought Pro Evo had more realistic graphics, the FIFA graphics look too blurry, like the camera's covered in vaseline, the players faces look awful (as proven in another thread) and the kits, although licensed, are disgraceful, speaking of which, has anyone noticed that the Liverpool home kit on the last two FIFAs has been based on the fake mock kit that came out months before the real one? If you look at the white pipingon the shoulders of the real kit, it's an arch shape that follows the shoulders, in FIFA it goes up into the collar and disappears under it, the collar is also completely wrong (and completely lacking in FIFA 07). Also, the stadia are too dark, in real life Anfield has lights inside the ground, and the crowd react with the match, in FIFA they don't.

Plus, one of the most frustrating small parts of FIFA 08 is the ref and linesmen, they don't fucking react to anything at all, in the PES2008 demo, the linesmen flag for fouls, corners, throw-ins etc. In FIFA 08 they just run up and down the line doing fuck all.

I've given FIFA 08 a real chance, and it's absolutely terrible. The gameplay is garbage as usual. I don't feel like I control what goes on...just watch a series of animations which completely mess up what I'm trying to do. In other words, typical EA!

From the very quick blast I had on the PS2 version of FIFA08, I didn't think it was that spectacular. Obviously I didn't have much time for a fair analysis, and I was playing as Preston, but I thought the controls were ridiculously sluggish, the player's ran oddly, it was too hard to beat people (I'm not talking skinning an entire team hear, I'm talking my winger beating a full back), the keepers were glued to their lines even with a keeper charge and the shooting was wild at best, even from within ten yards or so.

Sounds to me like none of you have actually played Next Gen FIFA 08 on 360 or PS3...Forget old gen FIFA on PS2 or PC....The FIFA that it is getting talked about here is 100% next gen and I can assure you that there is a hell of a lot that PES could learn from FIFA.

I admit, despite sitting thru an evening of my mate trying to brainwash me into thinking FIFA 2008 was the best football game ever (dont know about that....but it is certainly better than PES6), I still think that ProEv 2008 is gonna be the more enjoyable and addictive game by a good arms length. But it cannot be denied, whilst PES 2008 may be more 'exciting' playing FIFA 2008 is more interesting. The midfield gameplay and the options available for controlling the ball open up whole new avenues that quite simply can never exist in PES's pass-short-to-feet-and-go approach to the midfield game.

I'm talking about next-gen FIFA 08. I bought it on the PS3 and will be returning it sometime this weekend. I really gave the game a chance and have played it a lot. The game isn't terrible, it's just bleh. It seems like EA uses the same formula for all their sports titles...go heavy on graphics and spend money on license, while gameplay takes a backseat. I don't care what anyone says, FIFA 08 plays like crap. I'm used to the feel of PES, and I want to keep it that way.

Exactly. You are used to playing PES and are trying to play FIFA as though it were PES and it aint working, you are getting frustrated and you aint giving it a chance. In FIFA, you cant just get the ball to feet and charge at goal expecting to actually get somewhere. FIFA is a much more measured game of video soccer that requires a bit more foresight and thought.

FIFA 08 is a superb game in its own rights and certainly has the depth of gameplay to keep people playing for months and months. If it was not for PES 2008, I could quite easily see myself playing FIFA for the next year and who knows, if PES 2008 is another stinker like PES6 was, I may be doing just that.

I'm in the same boat man!
Ive had fifa sessions with my mates which have turned into cracking games. I've played quite a few games and im still enjoying it. Ive actually learned how to play it therefore i dont play it like i would pes.

Im giving both games a chance this year but as i said in another topic, if pes doesn't expand next year then i may be forced to switch back. I'm getting tired of the same gameplay year after year, especially the past 2/3 year.

I find it amazing that people on here just say that Fifa has unrealistic gameplay and finish at that. How is it unrealistic? Is it that the game is too easy? This year that is not the case on next gen. Like everybody who is not a fanboy on here has said, most of you haters are so used to PES that Fifa doesn't seem right to you.

I bought fifa 08. First since fifa 98. The extras and manager mode are far better then pro evo's lame master league mode. I will probably play fifa on my own and pro evo with my mates on pro evo night. Fifa is definatley catching up and everything but gameplay is far superior.

Mag I've read 2 of your replies.
Can't be bothered to look for others because you dont listen or take in anyone's comments.
In your eyes FIFA is the best and theres nothing wrong with it.
Nothing or no-one will change that so I cant even be bothered to disagree with you.

By 'Mag' i assume you mean me.....

You dont have to bother to disagree with me at all cos I reckon PES 2008 is overall the better game of the two.
