Is the game carp....or is it that people just can't get used to the new game play?

It's not crap, in many ways it is brilliant. The problems arise from the inherent game AI and overpowered individual stats. Top Player is scripted from top to bottom. KONAMI have set the game up to play as fast and direct as possible, the outcome is is that build up play doesn't necessarily get rewarded. The game needs to played at gamespeed level 0, with wide cam. And you need to play it at 100mph. That's the way KONAMI designed it.

Attacking wise, PES can feel a joy, the trouble is the other end. Defending can be controlled to a certain extent but more times than not it relies on more luck than judgement. Games are scripted and there's loads of little things like players leaving their positions to gift the cpu goals.

Quite simply if Konami removed the AI cheats to some extent, slowed the game down and introduced more cpu passing and build up play it would be a 9/9.5 out of 10. As it stands, for me anyway, it's a 7.5/8.

You nailed it man.
It is meant to be played fast and direct. I am all for the build up play and I am extremely disappointed now. AI cheats and scripted play is all over the pace.
PES has become more of an arcade game I'm afraid.

KONAMI can never find a middle ground can they?!

Of course PES12 is a better game than it's predecessors. But it might feel like a step back at times because there are annoyances in this game like you wouldn't believe. But it's a result of progression, as PES12 offer more freedom, better control of you players and arguably better physics. With more freedom follows a trail of more things that can go wrong, but most of us won't offer freedom for less errors either. Once you've played PES12 a few matches, going back to PES11 feels like a stiff arcade game compared.

So let me put it this way, the progression is good, but could been a lot better.

Interesting post. You are right. In programming terms - when you create and add new features, it can break old functions and introduce bugs in areas that were working correctly before.
Konami has to strike the right balance.

By adding new stuff, they have to make sure they don't destroy vital parts of the game. The stop sprinting bug is one of them.

I've payed now o for a few weeks and it's definitely not crap.
Having said that it's just not for me this pes, which i'm pretty gutted about. To much assistance in the final third for crossing and shooting .Just the over all feel of the game, like the pace of matches just don't feel right. One of the biggest game breakers for me is running with the ball it just feels like it's glued to your foot .

I wonder if jenkey can code in a more manual but still semi automatic crossing and shooting, plus more response for loose balls. If he could do that, in addition with the things he already added like no scripting, more realistic dribbling, AI builds up more; all the niggles and flaws PES 2012 will be gone. The game would be just perfect.

I heard, techboy, that if you put it on superstar difficulty(unlocked from extra content), the AI doesn't cheat. I aint tested it out but you try it out and tell me what you think.

Also 2 quick questions -
Is there any option files on ps3 that makes the AI stop cheating?
Also do you need to chip your ps3 inorder to install a patch?

pes 2012 is not crap, i think its a good game and fun to play but surely
with some flaws.

i ve been playing the game for more than a week(top player), i enjoyed the game very much. Scoring is satisfying, although build up play is somehow difficult and it takes practise and a lot of getting used to because of the introduction of new gameplay. Game is fluid and faster,
but players feel like running on rail and ice skating. Defending is hard and tricky, keep holding square and cross can be proven to be very costly especially when playing against teams like SPAIN. You need some luck and good wit to defend well.

AI cheats and Scripting is the worst and unbearablelly annoying.
Though ball passes is useful but not excessive, IMO this is a significant
improvement after pes 2011, because in 2011, though ball passes are
abused and flooded.

Even with some obvious flaws and issues, i still think pes 2012 is a very
entertainning game, it will remain in my ps3 console for quite a while.

Defending does have a lot of luck to it, you have to hold up play at times just to stop the attackers running though you, but this doesn't help too much in getting the ball back it just slows them down. You have to tackle at some point...sometimes you get it right and win the ball back, sometimes you don't and either the attacking player waltzes round you or you block him off and give away a freekick.

I like some of the defending aspects, in real games you don't see defender after defender rushing in on players, so the hold up seems quite good to watch. Saying that, it's damn hard if your defenders are not as good as the attackers.

Plus the "When to tackle?" question enters my head a lot at these times.

The game is fast, build up play and possession football doesn't seem to be as rewarded as it should be. It's end to end in most games, which is entertaining football but not very realistic if every game is like that.

Things will be patched and changed I'm sure. It took a good few months for PES2011 to be how I liked it. I remember many were whining and moaning about PES2011 when it came out, but things got better.

I do like the game, I think defending and attacking needs to be balanced more. In ML with the default dudes, on Pro, defending is really hard where as attacking seems hard enough. Knock it down to regular and your in for a bore fest.

Good game. Needs tweaks.

As the game stands atm, I'd give it 6.5 / 10.

But with a few tweaks here and there which can't be that hard to patch it could be an 8 / 10 or higher.

Well got the game today and played a few matches. No the game isn't crap...i like it alot actually. The gameplay should take a while to get used to..but like all previous games i'm sure it will turnout to be a winner. It's much much much much better than FIFA....so now to a year of football bliss! Enjoy everybody!

I was able to control shooting in all previous PES version... now it is annoying because the ball does not go where you want it to go... ridiculous!!! :realmad:
