Is the game harder this year or is it me?

I also find this year to be a lot more challenging than pes 2016. In pes 2016, there is a lot more room for dribbling, some times is just way too much room in the attacking zone. Attack from the wing always work with the winger cutting back to the middle and take a shot. And there's more space to attack in the middle as well. In pes 2017, none of that works. I can't even dribble for more than 5 seconds, there will be two guys on me or out muscle me off the ball. AI formation is always in shape and rarely they are out of position. Some times when I win the ball back, AI whole back line and their DMF/CMF is already waiting for me in their defensive zone. Very hard to break down just like in real life.

So far most of my goals are scored with a header from a cross or setpiece. All of my wins are like low scoring game with limited chances. Defending is a lot harder too. It has to be a very clean sliding tackle or a foul will be called. Standing tackle works but some times you think you are going to win the ball, but AI can get around you in the last second and makes you look silly. I started with Top level difficulty and now changed it down to Professional for a more balance game until I get more comfortable with it. Imo is one of the more difficult PES I can think of in recent years. Is like the good old ps2 days!

thank god! Same for me too. In Pes 2016 they would back off when you ran with the ball and give you a clean look at goal. In Pes 2017 that's not the case. However, at times the AI is a bit too defensive.

just moved it up to 11 minutes that little bit extra gives me more efforts at goal, last 5 games played on 11 mins 2-1,1-1,2-0,2-1,1-0.

I've actually gone up to 13 mins. I don't mind too much and I'm getting more realistic scorelines.

How does that feel in real time tho do the games go on forever? and what kind of scores do you get now?

I get 2-2, 2-1, 3-1 and I'll even still get those 1-0 or 0-0 scorelines.

It actually doesn't feel that long, primarily because the game is new and I'm so into the gameplay. Maybe in a couple of months it will be too long but not for right now.

Good seems like you have a nice balance with that setup, i like the odd nil nil and 1 nil scoreline tbh the tight games make the game more enjoyable.

I've just tried a 20 minute game and it was loads of fun. :) I play with Benfica so I decided to do lots of test matches against our main rivals Sporting Lisbon to see if I find the sweet spot, until the DFL OF is good enough to start a ML.

So 20 minutes at -1 speed, Professional:
  • Won 3-0. Score higher than normal but happens (happened last year for Sporting). As usual, scored all goals in the first half, then it's like the AI learns my moves and gives me no chance in the 2nd half.
  • Possession 51x49
  • Shots 20(13) x 8(6). About double what it should be. Last times teams met in the league it was 9–5 and 11–6.

This was really fun, I could pace the game, think, plan, etc. Fatigue felt very realistic. One of the most realistic matches I've played! I usually play 9 mins and have tried this year 10, 12 and 15, this was my favourite but of course stats don't feel realistic. I'll keep trying all possible variations of duration from 9 mins, 0 or -1 speed and Professional difficulty and above.

Dang, another brilliant game of 20 mins! This time I upped difficulty to Top Player (speed still -1)

  • Final score 3-2! What a battle! I started losing 2-0 at 11' and 42' and needed to try several tactical tweaks until finally I scored at 55', 65' and 69'. Had a player sent off for fouling a guy running isolated for the 3-3! I wouldn't have won this match at less time, wouldn't have had time to try all the tweaks I did and game would have run out before my winner! This took hard work and thought, very rewarding!
  • Possession 55x45 (more than I managed in Professional)
  • Shots 13(6) x 11(5) Seems the duration is still a bit long, 15 minutes should work better.

Man, this game is FUN!

Yeah, totally. Few of the matches I played, a boring 0-0 draw with one or two shots on target for both teams!! Passing accuracy is in the 60-70% range lol.

Oh shit well then this may be the option. Damn this game is good I'm actually considering playing 14 minute games for this.

Are you on top player though? And do you find it to be a little more open than superstar?

I only play on superstar but people are telling me the AI is a bit more free with attacking on Top player and no so focused on shutting you down.

This last game was on top player. Last year I was on Superstar but this year I find it hard to even draw against equivalent teams on Superstar. So far I'm finding Top Player is still too hard at 9 mins but good at 20 (have to try more in between). Professional is ok but a bit easy in the sense that I don't feel the need to resort to tactical options and I generally beat equivalent teams so if I go against weaker teams which is most of the season, it will feel easy and boring.

I don't feel a massive difference between Superstar and Top Player to be honest, except there will be a couple of times in Superstar I won't be able to stop them and I'll lose :p I notice a bigger difference from Top Player to Professional, easier to get the ball off them and their pressure is less oppressive, games are more open and fluid but then again, don't feel as challenging and rewarding when you win.

Ok, so I played matches in 20, 15, 14 and 13 minutes, in both Professional and Top Player, -1 speed. 14 minutes in Top Player gave me the most realistic number of shots per game between these two teams. 15 gets slightly above and 13 slightly below. I gave up on Professional because the discrepancy between my shots and the AI's is too big, in Top Player it's a realistic difference. So that's it, starting my ML with 14 mins, Top Player (compared with 9 mins, Superstar last year).

The settings on the previous post still seem to be working great for me in ML :)

Results so far 1-2 in supercup (lost in last seconds from set piece), 1-0 win, 1-1, 3-0 win and 1-2 win in CL (came from behind in the 80+ minutes thanks to aggressive tactics changes, good to have a longer match duration to allow for thinking strategic changes like this).

So let me get this STR8.......are you saying that for the game to be realistic, you have to play for a very long period of time? :shocking:

6 min games are not "realistic". You are starting ML with 14min.....are you serious?

Say its not so ....tell me this is a joke please. :w00t

Why is that so surprising? Your mileage may vary depending on your skill, if Top Player's too easy for you you'd get loads more shots and goals in 14 mins than me so it wouldn't be realistic for you... For me it works perfectly and I'm having a lot more fun than in previous years when I used to play 8, 9 or 10 minute matches.

The measure of realism I'm going for is shots and goals per game (of course if you look at number of fouls, crosses, etc, you get a lot less than in a real match) and for that and my level of skill I'm right on the sweet spot at the moment. Of course as usual in a few months I will have got a lot better at this and will either reduce duration or go up to Superstar or both.

Ok ...I understand where you coming from. I used to do the same thing very long ago when PES was the ish... when there was no online to play with friends. This made the game longer.

But for me ...20 min on one game in a very long time.....but it can be interesting if you have that time on your hands.

I'm playing 14 mins and on superstar. It's fantastic. Perfect even.

1) I'm not rushing which I love.
2) Subs can actually have an impact ( when I bring on someone in the 70th min they have more than enough time to really affect the game)
3) Even Stoppage time is a bit more exciting now.

I still get the odd 0-0 game but even then it definitely deserved to be 0-0 based on the way the game played out.
