Hi, Sorry to make an new thread but i am impatient ;) At the moment in my pc i have a crappy 32mb Nvidia TNT card (dunno the full name) but its shite and i want a new one, i will only have a budget of about 100 quid for a new one and i have had the following card recommened to me because its meant to be a good card and great value.

PowerColor/Mediamax Radeon 9600 Pro EZ 256MB (GX-012-PC) - £90 inlcuding vat from www.overclockers.co.uk

Now obviously going from 32mb to 256mb will be a HUGE improvement but i also know that its the make of the card which is the most important, I am not after a card to play pes3 on..I just want a graphics card for genral gaming.. So any thoughts would be gratful...Also could you tell me what class it is in from that other thread? Thanks ;)

In one of our stuck threads at the top you can see...
B Class cards

Nvidia Geforce 4 Titanium 4200/4400 64/128mb
Nvidia Geforce FX 5600
Radeon 9500/9600 pro/9600 XT

These cards should run the game quite well, considering you have atleast 512mb of ram, and a CPU of atleast 1.6ghz. Expected resoluton would be 800x600 medium/high detail or 1024x768 low/medium. You may be able to take very basic levels of AA and AF, provided you have lots of ram and a top grade CPU.

So depending on the rest of you system, you should be able to do quite well. Either way you should see a huge improvement over what you have now.

Yeah i saw that bit...after i posted :0 But the rest of my system is 1.8ghz AMD Duron with 512 MB Ram..but i may either get another 1gb put in or another 512mb :)

I have "His Ati Radeon 9600". But I recommend "His Ati Radeon 9600pro XT".

I think I'll buy MSI Geforce fx5950 256MB but I think about the Ati Radeon 9800 IceQ. Which one do you recommend ?

As i said i am not buying a card so i can play pes3...I mean just for general gaming...seeing as tho pes3 is crap on pc and requires an amazing card most games shud run like a dream with my new one shudn't they? and its sooo cheap!!!

I recommended that card for general games. If you have good RAM then you can play Half life 2, Doom 3 and other games like craaaazy.

Yes but technology moves so fast you'll have to upgrade again in a 6-12 months. No doubt your ram is good and the graphics card will be but your processor isnt, and thats the only one thats not really replacable.

Id have gone for a 2.5-3.5ghz processor and built the rest up later. then itd last about 2 years being able to play the best games around.

well the card you are looking at getting is 3 generations old already as there are 9700 and 9800's

You have to set a limit on what you want to spend (which you did) and get what you can (you did).

Your biggest problem now isn't your ram, its your ancient processor.

shitty!!! Your joking right? My current card is an NVIDIA RIVA TNT Model 64 so how many generations is that behind...loads!! Its shite so this new card will sureley be soooo much better! And when you said 'shitty' did you mean THOSE particular games will run shitty or most pc games? surely on the majority of pc games this card will be more than enough..like i have fifa for pc and it requires at least 32mb...i can run on 1024x800 res and low detail and its not even on 'proper' 3d graphics its more like the 'software renderer' graphics so this card shud be good on this? And most games (correct me if i am wrong) require at least 32mb or 64mb to run don't they..so isn't 256 enough? And the proccessor i have only just got...my old one was a 766mhz celeron and again i was on a very tight budget so i got it for about £24 which is quite cheap..i firmly believe this proccessor will last be a couple of years despite what ppl say...My 766mhz lasted me till abut a month ago after owning it for 2-3 years so this shud be the same..maybe the games won't run as smoothly in 2 years but they will still be able to run won't they?..I can still see myself playing cm6 on this machine with no trouble..Thanks and phew ;) :)

CM6? FM is the way forward!

and i wouldnt be too sure about that. the next generation of football manger game is due out soon, sure that'll play on yours, but two generations away, who knows what they might have in it then. could require a 3ghz processor!

no it wont... it will play it better than any FX except the 5900... HL2 is ATI optimised... it is the way to go... Doom 3 will be good until HL2 hits the Shelf... so if u ask me ... stick with the 9600 Pro or 9600XT... but use that as a bare minimum... if u can afford better... get a 9800 standard or Pro... or if ur a rich bum then get a 9800XT

there is no 9600pro xt, there is a 9600 pro n a 9600xt (wich is the best model of 9600 series)

u should get a 9600xt or try saving n getting a leadtek 5900xt (leadtek's has 2.2 ns mems ;))

i have just paid 100 quid for a g force fx5600 256mb for my second cpu and i must admit its excellent for the price. The games installed +tested it on r mohaa,1942, far cry demo, unreal 2004 demo, call of duty, c+c generals and it plays them all very well indeed but as for pes 3 im just getting a bit of slow down in pen box but im not sure bout the drivers i have installed ( 53.03) but i recommend it as its a cheap but powerful card :D

Right well the price of my 9600 is about 99 quid including VAT and delivery, I will most probably go on overclockers to get it as they are dirt cheap and excellent quality :)
