Lobbing the ball in real life is incredably hard at least the've made that more realistic.

So lobs are real hard in rl, and 40 meters long through balls to the wings are easy ? Cause i can do these pretty damn good in the game.

Lobs in real life are hard to make accurate and proper, but not hard to be done at all. And lobbed balls are never ever "lobbed" in PES5.

We don't say they are not done succesfully. When you press L1+Triangle inside or close to the box, your player will do most of the time STUPID things. And I mean stupid! Like throw it straight out and not in a lobbed kind of way, something like an akward shoot or pass to the keeper etc etc. Every, damn, time. No matter if you play with the best of the best in passing player available.

I play real life football, i honestly never seen these things happening. Kids can make better lobs than that, and even if they dont accurately target their teammate, they DO the lob. They don't make an akward low-angle not lobbed at all kind of shoot-pass.

Imagine this, the above X is one of my attackers, the below X is my other one, K is the keeper, and OOOO are the upper and downside box lines. Controlling the X on the line, I press DOWN+L1+Triangle to pass to my other X and instead of that the "pass" is done powerfully straight to the corner line :S

And that will happen again and again if i try to make the pass with L1+Triangle in any case like that one and in many others.

Sure it is, it is realistically hard and real life football, all you need to do is practise etc etc. Btw the players were Ronaldhinio upper one, Etto lower one, no defender there only them and the keeper.

You still insist that this is ok ?

L1+Triangle should be renamed to "suicide combination" when done close to the box.

Of course i have tried, and manual passes too, I don't say you can't make some kind of pass there in any other way.

I say that L1+Triangle which is supposed to do a lobbed ball aimed towards empty space in front of your attacker who's about to receive the ball does.not.work.

And the situation i describe here is only one of the many that can occure, i just used it as an example cause it is one of those that show crystal clear how much broken that specific kind of pass using that specific combination of keys that KONAMI taught us to use is.

Why break it? I don't get it really, why konami did this, is beyond my ability to understand.

And have in mind that O is made for a different kind of pass, not to the empty space but to the player. Why this mess? The game wont get any better or more realistic with broken controls and ways around to make things work. We are supposed to find ways to SCORE not to do the moves our key combinations SHOULD do according to the manufacturer of the game! And I don't mean to do the moves always succesfully. I just say to DO the moves, not something completely different and frankly utterly stupid for anyone who ever kicked a ball around a few times.

That's called bugged not realistic.

4. About the game: You cant control the players the way you should. They run away from the ball, the ref is crap, too many fouls and offsides, and you cant see the big numbers your player has, because the CPU lowers the numbers.

5. The triangle + L1 pass. Totally broken. Have to try with circle, wich is not realistic and sucks most of the time.

6. The World Cup final, and the stadium is half full. WTF?

2. I agree, but the game is an improvement. That same friend I just beat 5-1, used to beat me more in PES4. He did this because PES4 did not require very much skill or a footballing mind. It was about nothing but the through pass and speed. If he just held R1 and used the through pass, he would always score. Well, he can't do that anymore. He must think about his actions.

3. I agree, but please do name one sports game where the CPU does not cheat.

4. R1+R2 mate. This works great. I learned that if you hold both buttons down while chasing the CPU down, you will almost never get a foul.

5. Never used it much before so I have no comment on this.

6. Blame the PS2.....

I have played it almost non-stop, stopped for 2wks over christmas to complete Star Wars Battlefront 2 but right back on it and its as good as ever. I am not disagreeing with you I am just saying it still has enough to keep me hooked on it.

Well i agree with the thread starter. I have been playing 5 since it came out and its STILL annoying and feels like a job, 90% of games are a WAR. I have won the league and euro cup on 6* many times in pes5 but not ONE season have i felt i enjoyed the games, The level of cpu "cheating" ruins almost every match and the amount of pass types has been ruined by konami fucking up the thru ball completly! so the clipped thru ball which led to some GLORIOUS goals and FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in pes4 no longer works. Get my point here? FUN! PES4 was FUN, win or lose i enjoyed the countless seasons i played and yes it may have been slightly too easy but the cups seemed to get harder the closer to final you got and the euro final was usually a good game and a WAR as it should be as its a fucking final not a poxy league games vs a team who has won 3 out of 20 games but still somehow manages to score 2 equalising goals against you who are 30 points ahead of them.

IMO pes4 was pretty much as perfect as you got with the gameplay and how the passes worked, all they needed to do was add another 5 levels of difficulty, when i lost at 6* in PES4 it was ususally down to either a glorious goal or MY OWN FAULT, not once did i feel somethings not right here and i was robbed like almost every goal in 5 feels, and yes i have been beaten 4-0 in pes4, sometimes the other team just were in a zone that match, PES5 is like work.

Anyboyd heard of a proper patch by konami to fix things? and perhaps fix the TERRIBLE AI and fucked up thru balls

it NEVER works in PES5, we understand it cant work all the time nor did it in pes4 by any means at all, it at least setup some good shooting chances in 4 even when it went wrong, 5 100% goes to the keeper into the fucking crowd, even with the greatest players EVER, looks pathetic when maradona cant chip a simple thru ball to de stefano who is 5 yards ahead of him in line with the last defender.

While we are on defenders, have konami been told about the back pass? or last man tackles? Ive lost count the amount of times ive been brought down when thru on goal and the defender either getting away with it compelty or not even getting a fucking caution, leading me to a 50 yard freekick, and i have never agreeed with the super cancel bullshit, theres no need to have something that requires you to hold down 2 buttons just to run around the pitch, an option to make super cancel activate by default or always on when you are sprinting would be ok or something, holding R1 + R2 while trying to control the player then getting a shot or pass off is not what footy is about, the players are fucking pros, they should beable to run where we want them without having to perform a complex combo of buttons.

yes, I agree! I've watched loads of footy and have never seen players over hit through balls or make the wrong run, or stray offside regularly! They always do exactly what the manager wants and are never out of position and I can't understand how a game can't copy this :no:

I think the games great.. And ok, it has some flaws.. the chipped through ball isn't implemented too well in the version, but it can still be effective. Like any GAME, its just about knowing how and when is best to do it. I honestly think this is the most realistic PES to date, and I've had them all. OK, it's not yet real football, but come on, its expecting a bit much.

As for the "cheat" whinging, OK, it does some funny things, but rarely beyond the realm of things you could pretend were favourtism by the referee or great motivational skills from the opposition captain! And its not that hard. It's a challenge at times, but I went for two league seasons in ML on 6* without being beaten in the league.. so it really is about how you play. Much like a FPS, you have to master it first.

i agree with this - for me even super cancel works much better in pes4... now thist f*in super cancel works or not...

I have been playing this game in master league for a while now and the honest truth is that the referee clearly is in favour of the opposition as far as fouling is concerned.

I have learned to live without the use of the high through pass towards the goal, i just dont bother, although the ones down the lines are flawless, EVERYTIME. Just perfect no matter who makes them.

Bottom line is that you cannot really enjoy playing the COM because it's not afraid of making gaps and it charges and fouls you recklessly. All you have to do is wait until their fullbacks charge you leaving the winger behind them and give your winger a simple through pass, or give it to your midfielder for him to pass it down the side. It's too easy sometimes but they make up for it by making unbelieveably amazing blind passes or shots on goal, or by winning everything in the air even though the other team is made up of mediocre players.

Playing against the COM is extremely frustrating most of the time but when you do score it's a triumph in itself.

Losing is part of the game!!!! no matter how it happens... get used to it. Look at a team like Real Madrid, 3 former FIFA world players of the year and lose games to teams like Racing Santander. Watch one of those games and you'll see how out of sync and innacurate great players can be. Humans are not perfect, why would you expect their videogame counterparts to be.

When i first played.. yeah i did feel like u.. but now am on season 2008 i have changed the way of thinking.. the game is difficult yeah which makes it more exciting.. this season (200) ive played on 7 matches and ive scored 38 goals on 5 star difficulty...

the game is like a premiership fixture... u pass u shoot... u dribble u lose... the dribbling is crap, pes4 was better but in terms of strategy, positioning and difficulty this PES5 is better..

all u have to do is to use some of ur brain and assemble a good team.. buy good players not famous players.. buy young not old players.. look at ur formation.. and the most important be the first to score.. am used to it now.. my average goals per match is 4.. so 1 dont care if i am 1 nil down coz i have confidence in my team i know ill beat the opponent by 4...

I have been playing this game since my last post, and i have learned to play well this time.. i have won a few cups, i learned to touch the ball, pass around, and I must say this game is great. But STILL has some weird things, and some very serious cheating. Here some examples:

1. The CPU (as many others say too) knows how to make perfect, blind passes to their wingers, to happen to be always in line with your defenders, and even yo try an aggresive marking, your guy is always a mile away so its more like you running behind the CPU guy instead of intercepting the pass, as the CPU does well almost all the time.

2. Approaching the opposition goal, you can hardly take a shot; the ball wont move, it will just bounce between the defenders, and go away... but it goes right through some CPU forward "ready" to counter-attack.

3. I have played 23 matches, between cup matches and everything. I got just ONE yellow card. The CPU did not get any; and they just LOVE to commit foul after foul.

4. I think i have already mention it, but when someone tackles you, the ball deflects right onto some CPU player's feet; its usually the one without any markers around.

I dont hate this game, i like it and very much. But is these flaws that prevent it from being great... The cheating eventually forces you out of the game, at least until the next day or so. Hope the next (PES 6) would be better.
