'Jittery' Gameplay

I have a problem...

When i play PES5 online now it seems to 'jitter' quite alot, also happens a few times while playing offline. This is never happened before, even when i had other programs running, but for some reason it happens now, even when i have no programs running. I know that it isn't lag though, as i constantly get it, it's just the screen seems to jitter from left to right, kinda weird though i don't know how to fully explain it. Does anyone have any slight clue as to what the problem is?

Not necessarily the problem but have you updated your video drivers to the latest ones?

Press CTRL-ALT-DELETE (you know the drill, but only do it once) and click the Performance tab (with PES running in a window). Is the CPU reporting high activity? Might be worth looking at what processes are running. In the CPU column does anything apart from "System Idle Process" have a high number?

What are the specs of your PC?

I did once encounter a problem when I was playing World of WarCraft and the game and system ground to a halt - something I was running had somehow switched to maximum priority and was eating up every available bit of the processor - just shows what strangeness can occur. I had to somehow remove the program (which would grind my system to a half the moment I entered Windows) and reinstall it.

Bare with me here, somethings i don't have a clue about.

How do you do this?

Right, CTRL-ALT-DELETE part. CPU usage is usually about 25%

In the processes tab, the highest programs taking up memory usage are:

MSN - 104,164 (i've always had this running when i play online)
PES5 - 70,944
svchost.exe - 26,816
ccapp.exe - 21,308
avengine.exe - 18,076
pavfires.exe - 15,872
explorer.exe - 13,692
motivexb.exe - 11,556

then the rest are below 10,000

Specs:

Dell Dimension DM051
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz
3.39GHz, 1.00 GB of Ram

Graphics Card i'm not too sure how to find.

To change your VSync setting:

Right-click on the desktop
Click on Properties
Click the Settings tab
Click the Advanced button
Click on the tab for your graphics card
Click on (if you have an NVidia card) Performance & Quality Settings which will be in a list on the left hand-side
Change the Vertical Sync setting.

Move it to off (slide it left?) and reload the game. Try it and see what happens. If there's no change, turn it on (I'm guessing that's if you slide it right). Reload the game again. If it still doesn't help, vertical sync isn't part of the problem. At that stage, try and reduce the anisotropic filtering to 4x if possible.

Thanks for the help Sweey, i'll try that in a moment.

Well i just played 2 games online. First one i moved the slider to the left and some guy who i played said i had lag, like half a second, he was cool with it though. So i changed it to the right, and the next person i played said i had no lag(both games were played with nothing running), I didn't experience as much 'jittering' as i did first time round, but still get a small amount. I'm really curious as to why it is doing it. I even went to defragment my computer but it said i didn't need to. Hmmm...

Anyway, thanks again for the help Sweey.

Your vertical sync will not relate to an opponent's lag. It is only for the display on your monitor. Defragment even if it says you don't need to.

Ah, well moving the slider to 'Quality' rather than 'Performance' seems to be decreasing the amount of stop and goes.

I'll defrag my computer tonight before i go to bed then test it tomorrow.

Well for a start you don't want MSN running when playing online :)

See the thing is, i've always had it running and have never had any problems. I played Andy(Haribo) and Mike(Phatmann) online, both of us having MSN running and neither of us experienced problems. Now though, i'm puzzled.

Well i defraged my computer last night hoping that would solve the problem, but sadly no. I played two games online today to test it out, though it doesn't seem to happen as much now. See if it were everynow and then it happened i could cope, but at vital times it happens. Like when i have a free kick in a dangerous position or the opponent are on a counter attack, it really puts me off.

I don't think this is the reason but what the hey, i have recently been downloading faces for PES5. Before i had downloaded these, this never happened, maybe it's something to do with that? If not then i may be screwed and have to uninstall it maybe.

Install it again - but in a different location so that you perhaps won't need to uninstall the version currently on your computer with faces etc. and see how it plays.

Did you use a no cd crack on your game? if u did that might explain why because my pro 5 went a bit crazy when i had the patch applied for a while, when entering online on the testing network screen it would always freeze and i wouldnt even be able to get to the desktop in anyway so that might explain it if u had the no cd crack
