In thanking this wonderful place, full of great editers, competent and deep researchers, I need to give my two cents about kit editing. Further I will post a template I've done with PAINT.NET in which I found a good compromise and a possible solution for whose uploading 1024 kit textures. It will let you free to find your way, so don't ask me to make for you.
In brief, starting from whatever 2048 or 1024 texture, unless you are able to draw yourself from scratch, I replaced the little logos with files which remind a classic or minimalist logo idea.
For example, with Chaves of liga NOS, I shifted the original crests with the minimal two Keys and a pixellated acronym, replacing the sponsor brands with a pixelled design, which don't degrade in uploading.
In this way, you'll ever have the best graphic design, polished. The only thing I use is the Optimizing PNG while saving, which is a plugin you can find easily.
From original design it will certainly be different in some part, but believe me, you'll accept happily this compromise when you see the kit dressed up.
Pixelizing writings and minimalist logos are the Keys for 1024 kits.
