KONAMI should not be making football games

Im a proud owner of a PS3 and FIFA 11 and PES 2011. My verdict: Bollocks

FIFA 11:

EA are lazy
They expect us to pay £40 for a game which just contains kit updates and transfers
Commentary is just the same. The world would be a better place if Kammy replaced Andy Gray
Their idea of fair play is having the CPU defenders always intercepting the last pass
They add petty features to each game to seduce the public. Do we really give a shit if we can change the shape of the goals from rectangular to triangular? (If anyone says "yes" then i'd be happy to buy you a one way ticket to Dignitas)

PES 2011:

The biggest change from 2010 is that the power bar is now circular
Graphics are shocking (unless you zoom in on a replay but, quite frankly, id rather play the game) It may just be me but every player seems to have chickenpox all over their faces

Goalkeepers are worse than:
1. Roy Caroll vs Spurs
2. Taibi when the ball went under his legs
3. Barthez- a general clown
4. "Calamity" David James
5. Robert Green vs USA
6. Almunia
7. Paul Robinson vs Coratia

CPU cheat as a way of making a game fairer
SCRIPTED GAMES

Obviously i realise how general this list is but what im getting at is that Konami need to wisen up to the fact that ultimately, if we dont like the game, we wont buy it. Swings and roundabouts really. They want money, we want a decent game

-.-

dude.. are you kidding me? -.-...
beckham is not their god, messi is! !!!!!

but yeah, almost everything you said is right, except for the pes has shockingly bad graphics part mostly..

and konami should be making football games, they just need to tweak some stuff, add more animations, and get rid of the cheating from ai, then fifa wont have anything on pes, unless they do some big changes and get rid of the samey plastic gameplay..

FIFA 11:

Don't disagree with any of this, which is partly why I don't play FIFA. The fact that deep down it's nothing whatsoever like football is the main reason, mind you.

PES 2011:

You can't be serious. There's probably a bigger change from 10 to 11 than between any two previous PES games on the same gen. You might not like PES2011, but for God's sake it's nothing like PES2010.

Hang on, hang on. The graphics aren't shocking at all. Pause a replay and get an extreme close-up of Pique or Xabi Alonso or any other famous player - it's practically a photograph (well, it sort of is a photograph, but you know what I mean). Rooney and Torres look like they've got chickenpox all over their faces, yes, but that's because they do in real life. There's a definite lack of detail in wide view, which should be improved, but that's not the same as saying the graphics are "shocking". Have you seen the faces in FIFA? Jesus Christ, it's like Night Of The Living Dead. The lighting (which is a big part of graphics) is good in PES as well. There's room for improvement here, but mostly with the animations rather than the actual graphics.

As for the goalies, they're 10 times better since the patch. They make the odd horrible mistake, but once in every 10 games, not once a game any more. That's still slightly too often, but it's not a really major problem now. Their animations mostly suck, but that's not the same thing. They're still embarrassingly shit against AI direct free kicks, but that's part of the cpu cheating thing, and a separate issue.

CPU cheat as a way of making a game fairer
SCRIPTED GAMES

Agree 100% - this is crap, almost ruins the game and needs to go.

The Japanese (and Chinese) know nothing about football apart from the fact that David Beckham is their god. Why the hell are a Japanese game studio making football games when they know nothing about the game?

My verdict: Racist Bollocks. And I'm not "taking it in the wrong way." It's just ignorant shit. It's ignorant about Japan and the Japanese (would you say British people know nothing about tennis because they've only had 2 half-decent tennis players in the last couple of decades?) and it's ignorant of the subtleties that have always been in PES games which prove beyond any doubt that the programmers do know the game very well.

The referees in PES who don't seem to know the game, but that's not down to the team at Konami being clueless about football. It's a combination of two things - having to force certain decisions (especially offsides) to "balance" the game on account of limitations in the current AI, and the fact that everyone fucking whined and moaned that there were too many fouls in the demo, which there weren't - you just got punished for running slap bang into people, which is correct. Unfortunately, at least half the PES players in the world can only defend by doing that, and Konami wussed out and gave in to them (which also made the new defending system, which they were obviously proud of because they trumpeted it before release, totally redundant). That's why every almost game online is a nightmare of 100mph pressure which just gets boring after a while, as your players keep getting shoved off the ball by crowds of tireless nightclub bouncers, and the whistle never goes, which allows these noobs to succeed with their shite tactics.

If Konami didn't make football games, there wouldn't BE any football games. Just FIFA, which may be many things, but it ain't football.

You just take a break from reading the Daily Heil to post this?
What a loud of utter rubbish.
So you must be from jolly 'ol Ingurlend to know something about football? Surely there's a Lloyds or an O'Neills you should be down knocking back Fosters and headbutting your mates at now?

Wow wow wow! We don't all drink Fosters and headbutt our mates. Shouldn't you be busy....ermmmm.... running away from mounties, playing ice hockey and feeling inferior to the yanks? (You are from Canada aren't you? I assume this from your username)

Dail Heil.... nice one! I like it :D

The Japanese made a great football game in the past.... they can do it again.
It's bollocks to say they know nothing about football (referring to the OP of course), when they've been in the last few WCs, and have players at top clubs around the world.

What have the Chinese got to do with anything? They don't make PES!

You say you don't mean offense.... but then offend 2 of the most powerful nations in the world!

This is true. His arguments reek of some local ignorant racist chav that has allowed too much alcohol and trashy tabloids get to his head.

Also the goalkeepers don't make so many errors as they did in 2010 however that doesn;t mean they are not going to make any unsuspected errors as this is what happens in football. Even the best goalkeepers in the world are prone to high profile mistakes in a game.

Haha! Totally :) It's all aboot the bears, maple syrup and lumberjacks :D When crossing the border I have to ask really nicely if I may come in, promise not to question their gov't and apologise repeatedly for Celine Dion  Followed by a 30min video on Nascar, guns and jesus... it's alotta work just to spend a weekend in the country ;)

Yup just another vagabond from the colonies who lived/worked in England for many years and might return again and your man's post there reminded me of the casual racism, jingoistic nonsense you can get on match day... so like the others I bit at the troll's post. Must do better, must do better

I disagree about the GK's, the last thing we want is fifa 11 keepers where stats are irrelevant and they can pull of saves at all angles. Aspects of the keepers on pes aren't great but overall I feel they are fairly organic and the ratio of saves to mistakes is realistic.

PES has so many fundamentals right that I am always impressed with the knowledge of the developers, I see so many things in pes that are relevant to real football that I disagree with your comments.

The scripting can be too obvious offline on top player, konami have struggled to make the game more challenging without balancing acts and some painfully obvious cpu cheats which can be insulting, anyone who has played the game for a long amount of time offline can verify this. KONAMI have also tried in recent years to emphasise the flow of a football match but this can sometimes be too artificial for my liking, however I can see what they are trying to achieve but for me it needs to be toned down, I dont want the game to become a film instead of skill based football game hopefully we will see an improvement next year.

I'm not seeing how some of you are connecting racism with saying that the japanese and chinese don't know football.

A bit ignorant yes. Racist? No.

It's racist because it makes a sweeping, negative assumption about an entire race / nationality based on a small and irrelevant sample. That's racism, mate. If he'd said "Konami can't make football games because PES2008 was shit", that would just be ignorant. Saying "Konami can't make football games because they're Japanese" is ignorant and racist.

It's not hatefully racist, it's not white supremacist rubbish or ugly abuse, which is why no one's torn a strip off the guy. It's just a dumb kind of low-level racism, like saying "black people are no good at chess, because there's never been a black chess champion". It's bollocks. But the poster realised this, and he edited his post. No problem.

Yeah... I suppose you're right there. Anyway.. this is a PES thread, not a racisim/politics thread. We should stop the discussion there, in case it starts to get a bit heated.... as it often does on this site.

1. He never said they can't make games BECAUSE they are Japanese.
2. Making an observation about a nationality is not racism. Discrimination in certain instances, but not necessarily racism.

It can be a thin line but if anything it's cultural discrimination, not discrimination/hate based on genetic makeup.

I wish more people understood this fine line.

Just because you discriminate does not make you racist. Racism is far more extreme. When countries go to war against each other, it is generally not racism but the national/cultural aspects that war against each other. For example, Koreans might have a grudge against the Japanese for almost being deleted from the face of the Earth. Okay, fine. Does that make Koreans racist? No. I think racism is similar to superiority complexes, which may have been what the Japanese had against the Koreans a few decades ago... but I digress.

i dont believe he what he said was racist, i believe he intended to be racially discriminative, he however has no knowledge stating the chinese or japanese have no idea of football, doesnt most commercial value for the biggest clubs in the world come from asia? this thread should be closed its just borderline troll forum which is boring but thought id say something because there a few idiots posting today who clearly lost some brain cells while trying to figure out how to turn their console on...
