I don't entirely agree and i don't think that's what he meant.
I think he means the stats given to other players that aren't as popular.
Besides, what other method would you use? Your suggestion is so vague.
I've created and helped create many players for the DTL, so i have some experience with stats and their combinations.
For instance, suppose you have two players with equal stats in everything. If you give one of them more Agility, it will affect everything else. He will do everything faster and more fluidly. Specials are also a huge factor. Take away a special or add another and you have big differences in overall performance. Height also affects performance as does the players' dribble style. Which brings me to my point.
What the game needs, is a lot more dribbling styles and specials. That would definitely be a massive improvement.
As a matter of fact, so many players have very similar attributes/stats, but what usually diferentiates them is their anatomy and their mentality.
I suppose that Physique and Dribbling styels would falll into the anatomy part.
And that's exactly what I mean, and I do agree with most of what you've said.
It doesn't haves to be more Stats, but Konami should definitely implement some New Feature to define "player likenesses" more accurately.
In my opinion, I think the Stats are well out of date and Pro Evo would benefit from a Stat upgrade. Not many Stats, maybe 5 or 10 New Ones would do the trick.
Plus like you said: a lot more dribbling styles and specials. Which would add further differences and substance.
As for the "vague" suggestion... I didn't want to elaborate on that because it would take a lot of words and I know people don't like to read long "rants".
But if you play the games and pay close attention to the gameplay... it's been pretty much the same since PES5, or maybe even before that.
PES5 offered some of the best "player likenesses" I've experienced, it is a game that forces you into playing collectively.
But PES5 still had some flaws and could have improved on the "player likenesses". Instead, PES6 was just another tweak with the same foundations underneath it all.
Like you said: more animations and specials -but- maybe those new animations should come hand-in-hand with New Stats to determine the animations.
The old "Dribbling Accuracy" Stat needs to go: Dribbling Accuracy, Dribbling Speed, and Technique are not good enough anymore. I think the game would benefit from more Specific and Accurate Stats.
For one thing, the game would benefit if we had a Stat for "Finishing". Something to determine a player's coolness when Dribbling Inside of the Penalty Area.
Ruud Van Nistelrooy is not amongst the best dribblers in the world, and yet he is one of the best at dribbling Inside of the Penalty Area. He rarely gives a bad touch when Inside the Penalty Area. Not everyone haves that coolness.
This is Why I think a few New Stats would come good.
And like you mentioned, New Special Abilities and Dribbling Styles and Animations... would be a significant improvement.
For example:
* Good Strikers should have unique Animations that are very effective for when Inside the Penalty Area. Animations like the Old Romario Turn, etc...
* Some Midfielders should have animations that work better for Midfield play.
* I think players like John Terry and Rio Ferdinand should be allowed to push and foul and get away with it. They get away with plenty of fouls because they make them look "unintentional".
And so on. Every Different Type of player should have a couple of unique features.
Be it by Stats or Special Abilities or New Animations.. whatever, point is that Konami needs to implement a New Feature to further define the differences between individuals.
