Long pass mode, Crossing and Off the ball

Hi everyone, i'm new to the forum, i've been the PES fan since i was in middle school though.

I wonder which long pass mode do u guys use? In PES6 i used mode 4 since it let me control the long passes better and the crosses seems to get to the strikers more often too. But the PES 2008 seems to have different mechanism. i found it really hard to get the ball to the striker's head ... even if he's unmarked and the crosser have really high long pass accuracy =( ...
In adition, how do you make the striker running toward the center of the penalty area when u're about to cross? My strikers kept moving to the side... regardless of my formation setting which pissed me off

Hi I'm new to the forum too.I'm afraid I can't answer your question, since my knowledge is rather poor.I'm also interested in long passes and I'd like to learn some tips how to use them, since I like scoring with headers!Could you give a hint or explain to me what you mean by "mode 4"?Thank you very much!

... when you look at your button configuration, u'll see there are 5 long pass modes. and they explain to you what does each "mode" do too. All though i'm not sure which one give the best crosses =(

My strikers keep doing this too. I run down the wing and it the "Y" button and if it actually goes in (lol) the strikers are always running to nearer the corner flags than the flipping goal.

I dont know how old you are but I ve been playing it since it was called ISS on the Megadrive, the commentator used to annouce a new substitute as "Fresh Blood Coming On" and sounded abit like Dracula :D, anyway my point was I used to score the greatest diving headers know to man when i zipped down the wing and hit it in!
Now Im lucky to find anyone in there. Also in older versions Konami would give an explanation as to how a SS or CF would move around, but I ve forgotten which was which. Anyone know the difference? And whats a CWP? Or difference between a LMF, a SMF and a winger.

I gotta say PES2008 just isnt as good as even 2006.

It's a good idea to get your head around what the crosses actually do. It's not enough just to cross the ball in and hope for the best, your strikers will naturally make runs into the box, as if in real life...ooooh. Time your crosses. I'm going to open up a new thread concerning long balls and crosses...most people just knock the ball in and wonder why they don't score...

So what is difference between SMF, LMF and a SS, CF
What does SS stand for?

SMF -> Side Mid Field, operates best on the flanks. Will tend to make overlapping runs on the flank as well.
LMF -> Left Mid Field, operates on the left flank only.

CF -> Central Forward. A good sturdy target man if you can call it that in PES. They tend to drift towards positions where they can use their favoured foot more.

SS -> Striker. This position comes out when you play lone striker. Arsenal deploys Adebayor in this position.

You can put WF (wing forward) or SMFs as strikers as well. They however tend to move in the way their AI makes em so it would be hard to score with crosses. Their height also makes scoring with headers a lot harder since they most probably cannot win a header against defenders. The big strapping CF in my ML game can hardly win them.

If the CF you are trying to pass to is not that tall then using the low cross would yield more results. It also comes out faster so the defence will have less time to react.

Crossing in this edition seems to be less straightforward then say WE7 (which was the last WE game I play lol, got PES08 for PC lately hopelessly hooked). Certain players will not make movements to the centre of the box unless the conditions are right. I have had times when my CF would run into the 6yd box unmarked for my winger to plant the ball on his head for a nice header but I would be damned to try this with the box loaded with people.

It also seems to be more beneficial if you use the 1-2 pass ensuring that someone will make a run into the area.
