i can't post acreen shot
but basically their are 4 diffrent updates.
-Full english update(this does mess up the international teams)
-Full english update with everything unlocked(this messes up int teams and unlocks everything on the game)
-PES3 update(this does not mess up the int teams just updates the names)
-PES3 update and unlock everything(this does the same as above but unlocks everything)
their are aslo some cheats as well but i don't use em.

The fail safe option is to have another memory card, with a back-up copy of your PES3 option file. 
(and back-ups of other PS2 games as well)

I'm not sure about other people but I definitely check each and every file I receive in emails, downloads and clicking on links for viruses first, using 2 different virus checkers. I think I'm quite safe.
Quite a few people complained about their option file getting corrupted shortly after they used the PES2 update disk. I periodically backup my option file, as I do a lot of updating myself especially with kits. Wow, got the correct Anderlecht away kit for Europe created perfectly in my game now! After all this work, I've backed up enough to know that if anything happens, I can just reload from my PC. If you lose your data, you'll have to go back to how the disk gives it to you....

i would use an x-port if i had regular access to a PC.

Giggsy, you've been recommending the Update disk as if it is a better solution to updating the game than an X-Port. I now see what the issue really was.
To those who have access to a PC -> Get an X-Port
To those who don't have access to a PC, find someone nice who will let you use their PC for less than 10 minutes to use an X-Port.
Otherwise, maybe try the update disk.
