MP3 song size or length limit?

I've been having quite a few issues with this guys. I have been sending MP3's (and yes they are mp3 format) over to my PS3. These are songs for playing in Top Menu., via Gallery. They play fine in XMB but some cannot play in Gallery, when I press triangle to sample the tracks the Game and my PS3 freezes up - crashes.

Can someone tell me (please don't guess) if there are size, length or bit rate limits to what can be used in the menus. I wanted the songs to be good quality, so I encoded them @ 256Kbps (which is around CD quality) i.e. pretty high quality for an MP3 encode - about double iTunes quality.

I am going to try this all over again @ 128Kbps, and see what happens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do bit rate etc because I had songs that were identical in format, bit rate etc and some worked, some didn't. Very strange

I'm officially pissed off at this stage. Over 2 hours later and I still have yet to sort this issue. Even with my newly encoded 128Kb tracks.

What makes things worse is when it crashes I have to restart the whole PS3. I don't think it's the PS3 itself. It's brand new and LBP runs perfectly on it. It's an issue with PES. Hoping someone can solve this.

I wonder if I just leave the Gallery alone? It may just be a Gallery preview/playback bug. What if I don't sample the tracks and just presume things are fine will they play in the menus for me?

EDIT: The thing froze leaving the Gallery this time. I didn't sample the tracks, just adding them to Top Menu. This bug could make you want to top yourself :(

EDIT 2: I just played the computer and quit the match to go back to the Top Menu and the game again crashed when just landing on the Top Menu, I'm guessing one of those tracks the game doesn't like was about the play. Arrrgghhh!! :crymore:

EDIT 3: Now when I try to open the game it crashes, because those songs, some of which it doesn't like are about to begin playing on the Top Menu. This is a pain in the ass.

I'm considering restoring the PS3, a full restore possibly.

I did a quick restore, not full. I'll think twice about trying to add mp3 music files to PES again. The Gallery is riddled with bugs, it needs work.

PES '09: the bug monster!!

I had the same problem, I had 6 songs that played well in the xmb, and are mp3 files, but for some reason didn't work in pes 2009, and one of the songs crashed my ps3 when I pressed the triangle button on it.

Here is the solution:

Since u already legally (i hope) own the song, by buying it online or owning the cd, and that song doesn't work, u should search online for the same song and artist, search for a free mp3 file, and when u find it, download it, and put it on the usb stick, then to the ps3, but first delete the songs from the ps3 (the same songs) and try to see if pes 2009 plays it well or not, if it doesn't, search again, from another site or torrent.

if you don't own the song legaly, i wouldn't do this thing.

I owned the songs that I tried to put in pes 2009, and after I searched for them in free mp3, all of them except one worked, so I searched for another one and it worked, and now I'm glad with pes 2009 :)

hope this helps.

Yeah, thanks. I do own all the songs.

I was thinking about doing this. I think for some reason the fact that the tracks were AAC and in converted them in iTunes to MP3 is the issue. My friend didn't have the issue but he imported them into iTunes from the start in MP3 format. I still think it's an issue with the game, as they play fine on the XMB, but I'll have to live with it.

The reason why I'd have to get the songs online is I burned all my CD's and then gave them away.

THANK YOU!

I would suggest that you burn your MP3s to an audio CD, and then use the PS3 to rip them. I read somewhere a while back that it's the best way to get the system to recognize MP3 files.

i couldnt get it to work unless i did this
and then set the PS3 to rip from the audio CD to MP3 instead of AAC

I too am having the problem with teh MP3s freezing my PS3 and me having to restart it! But for me, i get it to have songs to play, but the second i go back to the main menu and a Mp3 is cue'd to play, it freezes my PS3! Ive had to revert back to having the crappy PES 2009 songs on there becasue playing MP3s screws things up..... THIS SUCKS!!!

You talking to me? I didnt rip any songs from a disc, tranfered over through my thumb drive... personally i think its a bug, and i emailed konami about all this freezing crap when the game loads your edit mode, some other guy stated that he is having trouble with chants loading and freezing his game!!! Thats really lame too!

That takes away 2 great features of this new version

I couldnt get it to work when I loaded off a memory stick either. i tried everything and the only why I got it to work was by ripping from an audio CD straight to the PS3. Change your PS3's rip settings from AAC to mp3 128 kps.

^^You didnt get them to work completely? Or it worked but froze up your PS3? I got my MP3s to work and play on the PS3, but it would freeze up my game... i have a feeling it isnt the PS3.

Konami told me to remake my playlist and that is why it was freezing. I will have to give that a shot
