Pros

- Better animation

- The game isnt bogged down by sluggish animation

- Less scripted gameplay than other FIFA games

- Improved graphics. good character models (not rounded look anymore)

- Improved AI - like defenders covering open areas when another defender wanders off, back passing to find new routes of attack, sliding to keep balls in play etc.

- More width in the game - the AI now uses the wings to attack rather than just concentrating on trying to breakthrough the center

- Improved Player Responsiveness

- Better ball physics

- The skill button is actually useful now - in 2004 it was almost impossible to beat a defender by trying to use skills against him but now its easier but the defence can still stop you

- First Touch is great It really opens up the gameplay and makes for some great goals

- Passing is improved

- The Atmosphere is great. Crowd cheering a great tackle, booing a foul etc. Player reactions during throw-is, fouls, goals etc.

- Improved goalkeeping (probably the best goalkeeping ever seen in a footbal game)

Cons

- lack of passion- unlike PES series, scoring a goal in FIFA doesnt give you a sense of achievement. it just lacks emotion

- Unrealistic shooting - that has become a problem in the last 3 FIFA games but although it has been slightly improved, the shots still move like rockets

- The Ball speed is way to fast - seems more like an arcade game that a realistic footy sim

- Although the graphics are good. the kits look very blurred but this might change in the full game

- There is still heavy scripting

- Set-piece system is soo rubbish and can cause huge problems. for example, i got tackled near the corner flag but the free-kick system does not allow to me cross the ball but i have to take shot from the corner flag. also, the set-pieces shows how heavily the game is scripted

- The long passes look like sh*t

- the nets are still like metal. small feature i know but adds to the realism

- the AI doesnt press for the ball (give you to much time on the ball

- the game seems boring. only FIFA can make the Arsenal team boring

- Off the Ball still rubbish

Final Verdict

This a major improvement from FIFA 2k4. it seems that EA are actually feeling the competition frm the PES series. The game could become very playable especially multiplayer wise. Is the game better than PES 3? No Is this worth downloading? Yes

IMO, FIFA 2005 is the best ARCADE footy game. its not a real sim

Very good and honest review. It's people like you that make this whole PES VS Fifa thing a thing of the past. I agree with a lot of what you say. fifa has improved this year by the looks of it. The improvements are very noticeable thanks to how unnoticeable they were in 2003 and 2004. I will be getting the game when it comes out. the career mode looks awesome. Being able to intevene in a game you might be losing after sim'ing it is cool. Plus with Fifa all the licenses are pretty much there. I'm esp. looking forward to playing in snow;). (I know it's a rumor but it's on good info that it just might be in there.Aapparently someone who has the demo you reviewed has found a snow texture within it's files)

ive got the Fifa 2005 PC demo aswell but think its absolutely shit, ive not been a fan of fifa since fifa 99, after that year all the games have been disappointing IMO. i was hopin this years version would be massively improved but it still looks the same old pile of shit 2 me, maybe on the ps2 or xbox ill prefer it though as i hate using the keyboard on my PC 2 play fifa 2005 but the only thing that i like the sound/look of so far is the new edit mode, so then u can edit the players theyve made look completely unrealistic (i.e Kolo Toure, he looks like a black Adolf Hitler ffs! ) or who they have made nowhere near as gud as in real life.
p.s they have made Lauren a beta player than Ashley Cole!

My review:

Fifa Sucks!!!!!

Also, as EA are using there on servers, instead of Sony/MircoSoft, the online mode will be very anoying(like on Burnout3)

Fifa 2004 servers seemed ok to me, but the pros mentioned in the mini-review is exactly what many ppl have bean slating EA for getting wrong so it looks like they have fixed and sorted many of the issues, i will defonatly download it.

I looked on the site at the editing mode, and I have enjoyed editing people in Tiger Woods but the faces just don't look real! I just mess around for a laugh! They look like something that would appear in Wallace and Gromit! The textures and colours of the faces on PES are far more realistic imo. Fifas editing in 1999-2001 was pretty fun too although there were only about 5 faces to choose from. Watch some of the producers diary on the fifa 2005 site it cracks me up...they think its gonna be the best ever and the guy who makes it can't even talk properly

Just cos the editing in fifa is the same as in tiger woods don't mean the textures will be, infact there not.
