Negotiation & player development tips?

Just started playing ML last night and after not playing this game for a few years its become quite intimidating. Right off the bat, the game suggested I make a run at some striker from Udinese (forgot his name). So I did and I ended up getting him but had to pay 11 million in a transfer fee. That seems like a lot for a new team like mine. Did i screw up buying that player?

Then I started going after some young players. I was able to land some young guy from France (forgot his name) but I looked and they want me to pay $50 million in a transfer fee!!! That seems outrageous. Am I doing something wrong or is there something I'm missing out on that is causing these fees to be so high?

Also, in terms of player development, how do you track that? The last time I played ML your player stats would go up or down after every game played. YOu could track the progress easily. But, I don't see that option when I'm playing now. So how do I track player development?

And how important is training? Is there a way to do that right? I've never done that in any previous versions of the game.

You playing on a console or PC? Do you have the most up to date patches and data packs? That will effect transfer costs.
What team are you playing as? I am guessing one of the big boys to be starting out with transfer fees that high?

When you start a ML, the system makes you go through a couple of steps - putting in a transfer bid being one of them. You can cancel the transfer negotiations right after you start them and then not worry about that again. You should probably start over so you can do that.

For tracking development, there is a graph on one of the player pages which shows their general rate of development.

I'm playing on a console. I don't have any patches as I have no clue how to download them. I'm quite computer illiterate and I've never found the threads here about patches/option files to be adequately explained enough for someone like me be able to figure out how to do it.

I'm playing as Stoke City. The player asking for $50 mil wasn't a big time player as I've never heard of him.

Do I need a patch? Can I still play the ML without one or is it broken?

And is there a link to what patch I need and how to EASILY download it for the Xbox?

IDK on Xbox, as I am on PS3, but via the Extra Content and System Settings menus you can download the latest updates and data packs.

I was able to download the lastest data pack through the extra content, but it wouldn't let me download any of the earlier ones because I bought the game used.

Should I sell the version of the game I have and buy a new one so I can download all the date packs? Do they make that much of a difference?

Also, are the date packs the same things as patches you were talking about or is that something different? If not, what do the date packs do?

For PS3 at least, there are updates and data packs.
I currently have 1.03 update and 2.0 data pack...although I do not know if that is the most current setup to be honest.
I was just guessing at why your transfer fees might be so flipping high. I wouldn't want to comment on the pros/cons of new vs used. Sorry!

If you have your console hooked into the net then the latest patch will automatically download.

On the start menu, just after the titles what version does it say??? I suspect you have the latest version where price tags are high.

About the data packs on extra content dont worry too much about them. They only contain new fancy bits like new boots, hairstyles etc etc. So doesnt really affect the game.
