I had the problem that most of you are having where the game goes black before going to the menu, and coming out of the game. Well this is how i got it to work:
First of all dont use the 'AFS explorer' to make the files bigger, use 'Explorer extract' in this link : go here and its in a link on the 4th post down .
Open up the '0_text.afs' file in this program, with this you make the files bigger like said in the readme file given with the balls.
After you done that, regenerate AFS not with the name '0_text.afs' , put the name as '0_text.afs.new' for example because you cant overwrite the original file, and put that in the 'proevolutionsoccer4/Dat'.
Now take out the original file named '0_text.afs' and put it somewhere safe just in case it goes wrong and you want to revert back to your old setup. Now rename the file you regenerated (0_text.afs.new) to '0_text.afs'.
Follow the steps in the readme file given with the balls on importing them in. use the AFS Explorer for this.
And there we are it should work.
