Opponent's online connection

Something strange is going on online. I always have a green connection, yet when i search match rooms, everybody there has a yellow/orange connection, everybody! Is this perfectly normal, or just me? I'm wondering if it signals the stength of my connection to the other person's, because i'm in the USA playing the English version (wanna play my mates in England), so it's a bit long distance. But surely in that case, i wouldn't have a green connection! So confused!

Yeah it is your connection with that person if they are from the USA more than likely they will have a green connection most people have the same connection so it is nothing to worry about . It would be cool to have all green doh .

So basically i'm scewed playing in the USA on the UK version, because i'm not going to get a good connection to anyone in Europe? Or should i just ignore the orange/yellow flashing light next to the person's match room and play them anyway? It's gonna be well gutting if i can't play a decent online match with anyone in Europe.

As I've said before in these forums... EU vs US not going to happen. The distance is just too great, meaning it can't establish a stable connection. I know it makes know difference, but if you have friends in the US, who have also bought PES UK version, you can play them on English servers. :)

Trust me its like this for every game, not just PES.

I have no friends in the US who play Pro Evo, let alone the UK version. Guess my only option is to hunt some down on here. I don't get why they didn't just make it worldwide like Fifa, now i'm not gonna be able to play with/against my mates in England. Seabass has shafted me up the arse.....thrice.

Just to add, why would it be okay to play someone also in the US with the UK version, but not someone in the UK. Surely it would be even worse, as we'd both be connecting transatlantic????

Yes that's right...

But some people blame lag on the game, don't get me wrong it lags some times. (PES09 has never lagged for me). But nowadays allot of people have wireless connections. Wireless is NOT for gaming. Anyone will tell you this. Also, during peak times, allot of the UK ISP's cap their customers, giving them higher pings. Even though they rent a 20MB line, depending on the ISP, they will cap it to say 2MB line during peak hours. Its stupid that they do this. But once again, people will blame the game and not their ISP....

But as for UK vs US or US vs UK it shouldn't make any difference.

BTW, what platform do you have PES for? And what connection do you have? I have a 10MB line that never gets capped, and I have PES on the PC. If you also have PES for PC, try to add me and will have a friendly just to see what the connection is like. :)

Also, if some people ain't aware. Virgin, Sky, Talk Talk, Tiscali and a couple more, these are some of the companies that cap your connection. BT, o2 do not cap your connection. Whether its cable, wireless, dsl or adsl, the 4 companies will cap you. o2 are one of the few companies that offer adsl2+ this is a more secure line, stable line and almost doubles your speed!

I have it on the PS3 unfortunately. I believe my connection is 7mb. I have also got it connected wirelessly (it works fine for COD and Fifa), maybe i should connect it with an ethernet cable then? Just wanna play my mates in England online, and will never be able to convince them to get Fifa as well.

Wireless does work on any game, but you get allot of lag spikes. Try the Ethernet cable, see how it goes from there, and make sure your friend is not on wireless as well.

Oh just for the record :)

I own my own clan and we have a server for CoD4... Anyway down to the point I'm trying to make... We have a Irish guy, who had a wireless connection, he just randomly lagged all over the place, teleporting back and forth. Soon as he plug in he's Ethernet cable, problem solved :)

seems strange that distance should have anything to do with it! i play loads of other online games with people all over the world, i live in england and i have friends/family in U.S. and Aus!

Strange because COD works fine for me through wireless on my PS3, although my PS3 is no more than 4 feet away from my router, so that probably helps the signal strength. I'll have a play around and see where it gets me.

Don't get wrong, in COD4 for example, I play with US players, but you can see by just looking at their pings... On a UK server I'll get 20-40 ping, a US player on a UK server will get a ping of 100-200, Australian players will get 300-400. You can't see the pings in PES, just connections, but I can guaranty this is why it lags if you play overseas players.

Could be... But I had a friend who lives down the road from me, he was also using wireless... He lagged like a cunt... Even when I hosted. No one else would lag, just him... This was PES6 BTW :)

Even if that was the case, its not worth the hassle... For a game like PES, it needs to run fluently, with minimal lag at the most. UK vs US will lag either way you look at it.

If they had the same quality of servers as EA it wouldn't. There's only the slightest difference between onlin and offline on FIFA, nomatter who you play against. Even 10v10 is smooth as a babies arse.

there is no difference between my wireless connection and my wired connection, maybe because my ps3 is practically under my router. when i play pro it lags when playing people oversea's and feels as slow as a grandmother. but i don't get these same problems when i play cd04.

Like i said, It's because Konami's servers are dog shit, or they've made a hash of doing the code for the online part. Probably a big, filthy mix of both.
