It worked for me on the 64-bit version of Vista except that it doesn't recognise the graphics drivers.

Just because the demo doesn't work in XP x64 doesn't mean the game won't.

Which should never be used with an Intel dual core.

lol...I report that under certain conditions my game plays at double speed (ie it's render twice the number of frames per second than is intended) and he's suggesting I might try optimising my CPU !!

Yeh..that REALLY makes sense !!!:shocking:

Granulated, what is your system setup?

core2duo e4400 (oc'd to 3.2ghz)
gigabyte ds3p rev3.3 mobo
2 gig of OCZ cas444-15 platinum2
evga 8800gts 320meg

and of course an old CRT monitor.

It's not a drastic problem as I can play ok with vsync OFF. Although is still doesnt feel right.

I was just raising it as a general concern to sloppy porting.

Also, and I know this was also the case with PES6, the way you cant see who to mark in and around the 6 yard box when defending a corner really SUCKS !

Thanks for your reply Don,

I hope you will be right about the full game and actually I'm also not expecting such a thing but its still weird that the demo may have such a problems on 64 bit operating systems.

Is there anybody who owns 64bit XP and can play 2008 demo?

I'll test vsync tonight on my machine (Core 2 Duo E6850 oc'd to 3.6Ghz, ASUS P5K Deluxe, 4GB Crucial Ballistic PC5300 oc'd at 800mhz, 640MB BFG Geforce 8800GTS) and, if there are no further posts in this thread, edit my findings into this post. My machine is comparable to yours in various ways so I should suffer from the same issues.

----------

Granulated, bad news. Turning vsync on doesn't double the speed of the gameplay on my machine.

ok here's my review of the demo:

PES 2008 (at least we know where tiberium first appeared on earth):

Well it's like this, i was disappointed with the demo since minute one. It's fine if it was a current gen game i mean these are the changes i would like to see the company make every year in pes but not in a technological leap from one console era to another.
gameplay is somehow different, passing may seem faster but when the ball reaches a player's foot and starts to run with it, he acts like he's chained to a concrete wall. Players run in their places instead of going forward. defenders catch up with players a lot easier and to be frank i couldn't tell if there was a lot of difference between the abilities of players. Certain players who were human rockets in previous games are crawling in this version. passes also make a canon ball sound effect which would be cool in a pirates of the carribean movie. speaking of pirates, when players collide they make a weird sound like they are drowning while having a duct tape on their mouth. Also the player/ball collisions aren't that accurate at all. players don't make the right runs you'd expect them to make (Only thing that fifa excells at) and you don't have an assigned button to make them run even if you want to. Grass looks like tiberium from command and conquer strategy games from up close and looks like a carpet from far away. The crowd are in 3d now, look almost as detailed as the players but when you see about 20 000 fans raising their hands then lowering them at the exact same time you know there is something wrong. They may look like real people but in fact they're trained monkies.

Frame rate suffered during replays, although the game ran smoothly during normal play. my settings were on high with 1280x800 resolution (dual core 3.4 (4mb cache), 4 Gb RAM (bus 833), 7600gs 512 MB nvidia card).

Konami also added a new realism aspect to the game though, shirt deformation: when your players run around in the pitch you can clearly see 4 wrinkles on the side of their shirts, also a new fatality mode, but i'm not sure how is it done exactly as it happened by accident: while i was running with riberry his hand went through the back of puyol and ripped his (chest cage?) kind of a reveresed kanu fatality from MK1. Well that's it i give the game a mediocre 6.5/10

Ouch

Compared to PES6 it's so much harder (as if 6 was not hard enough)

I'm still playing on beginner, and let me tell you this after playing for 6 matches (the clock winds down faster on this game) even playing beginner is frustrating as hell

1- Players are not controlled easily, they seem to be chained to the ground. Opposing players can easily skip through your defense like a knife on melted butter

2- If PES/WE never got you to chuck your game system out of the window, you'll probably start now! The AI of your players is lousy, I mean you can miss a diagonal "pass and shoot" shot even if you're 5 feet from the goal!!

3- Your player will lose the ball more often now if you hit the special technique button. They also seem to have an aversion to the ball (meaning: start getting used to losing the ball when you pass it to your teammates)

4- The opponents can sometimes make you go "huh?", on beginner the defence sucks as it should be but they pass a lot and can prevent you from having the ball for a loooooooooong time. I'll get back on this one as soon as I start "amateur"

5- The faces of the players are pretty much different, on PES 6 they were *gasp* more realistic!! check out Fernando Torres for an example

I'm so sorry for trying to help you out man, won't happen again...
Honestly I really don't see what is so absurd about optimizing the CPU.
I had the exact same problem with colin mcrae 2005 and it was fixed with the dual core optimizer.
I probably should have clarified that it shouldn't be used with intel
although the program IS called amd dual core optimizer.

when i try to run the demo a message apears saying my video card needs vertex/pixel shader 1.x.
can anyone please help me

Your video card either has vertex/pixel shader technology or it doesn't. You need a new graphics card. Incidentally, what graphics card do you presently have? I suppose I should note that telling me isn't exactly going to help the issue - you need a new graphics card regardless.

I have an intel core 2 duo e6600, 2 gigs of ram and an nvidia 7900 gs.....yet I can't put the settings in the demo up to high? Anyone know why??? Any help would be appreciated....

It has to be your graphics card, nothing else is even potentially inadequate. We'll simply know more once the game comes.

Hmmmm, my card has 256 mb, and it supports shader model 3.0. I hope it's just the demo.

Have you got the latest graphics drivers? Do you know specifically which card it is? In XP, right-click on the desktop, click on Properties, go to the Settings tab and under Display: it'll name your video card.

It could just be the demo though it seems a bit of a strange error to be giving.

Played it round a friend's house last night, lost my first game 4-0 to Turkey, with 3 of the 4 goals being drastic keeping errors on my part - hardly giving me the good first impression I was hoping for. But after a few more games, I started getting into it, getting a feel for the new player movements and dribbling system - and won a few games. Scored a nice goal with Henry in which I dribbled it from my own half, to the edge of the box, jinked inside two players and bent it round the keeper into the bottom corner.

Everything seems a lot more "random", and you feel less in control of everything, but I think it makes it more realistic on the whole.

I'm a big Pro fan, ever since the start of the ISS series. But i must say that this FIFA 08 PS3 copy i bought (had to! was too bored with the other games available and a real footie fanatic) is really really good!!! and i've only played it for an hour. Man U storms ahead tearing apart defences like it should, players react very very cleverly, going forward when they have to, the dribbling system, although quite difficult to handle is very impressive and effective as well. Theres a character motion for every situation thats happened to me in this hour of play. Shooting doesnt feel as intense as in PES but its quite good.

Let u know on the game a bit more afterwards. Going into manager mode and see whats there.

Well I just updated to the brand new nvidia drivers just out today. And now I can play the demo on high settings. And man it looks sweet! Thanks Don Sweey for the help.
