Penalties

I've been playing the demo a lot now (got psn+ because I couldn't wait until this week! :p) and I'm loving it and getting the hang of things now... The only thing I'm having difficulties with is penalties... The command list says if I press square, the player will run up automatically an I just have to press L in the direction I want to steer height/width, but no matter what I press, I balloon the ball into the stands... :-( Am I doing something wrong..? I play using the d-pad by the way, does that have anything to do with it..?

Hope someone can help... :)

Don't hold it too long, try just tapping it right before the shot, it might help.

Good luck!

Thanks, I'll try that next time... ;-)

Also; because of the angle, do I press right/left or up/down..? I mean, if I wanna shoot to the right, do I press right or up..?

I got two penalties against bayeren yesterday in the same game, so it was frustrating not knowing what I was doing... :p

Are there more penalties then? Last time (PES 2010) in a whole year I had 4 penalties!!

I notice the refs pulling up for more fouls too.

You'll get more penalties in this game, because the referees are much stricter. It's also alot easier to concede fouls with the step in tackle this time round.

On the penalties themselves, it seems the same as 2010. Lots of people moan about it, but it really isn't very hard once you get the hang of it. First decided how high you want to hit it, we are talking literally the lightest feather tap for low, and still a reasonably quick press for high. Then put the direction on it, in the same very light fingered manner.

Bah! I still hate the penalty system. It's not so much the controls but the stupid camera angle! It should be a close up camera.

I've noticed a slighty difference in penalty system this year. In 2010, you control the height of the ball with shot button. The more you keep it pressed, further up the ball goes.

In 2011, so far as I know, shot button has nothing to do with ball height. I just can make it goes high holding left stick forward.

So, if I want a high shot in the side I just follow 3 steps: tap in shot button; then tap left stick forward (just a tap, or the ball will go to the sky); then I hold for less than a second left stick in the direction I want.

Cheers mate, I'll try this next time! ;-) Maybe I'll just switch sides and make penalties just to practice... :p

I felt exactly the same about this, on 2010 I hated the penalties as whenever I tried to choose a direction it flew as far wide as possible.

However, last night, again on 2010 I decided to have a few attempts on training to see if it was really that hard or if it was just me not getting it right.

I found a way of scoring almost every time, unless the keeper saved it that is. All I did was, using the very tip of my thumb as it's not as soft as the part with the fingerprint on making it easier to gauge the length of time I pressed the button.

Dont touch anything else, just hit the button firmly, imaging a punch with a boxing glove on, the length of time your hand would be in contact with a chin, thats how long to press it for.

Now, as your taker gets halfway between the start point and the ball, hit top-right on the analogue stick.

This, for me, always hits it into the left hand side of the net, bearing in mind that on training you are playing from left to right. Once you have the hang of this, experiment with direction but keep the shoot button method the same.

I found this after getting stressed with it, I got to the point of swearing each time I shot. The word ''Cunt'' is perfect for gauging the length of time needed to hit the button.
