The jostle system isn't pointless at all, maybe you are just bad at using it? I only ever use it when I am on the attack. For defender I mainly use the shoulder barge (X), X and Square together to bring another player in or IF I know I will 100% get the ball I will slide (Which again, the opposite to you I give away about 80% of fouls whilst sliding than any other method of tackling).

WOW. You taking the Ignorance is Bliss approach with this game.

1. He dives in the completely wrong direction. His reaction times were fine. Nice job in not actually recognizing the issue;)

2. Look at 6-8 seconds on the first goal. A.I could have got the ball but can't cause he is stuck in the scripted animation.

Now look at 10-12 seconds on that first goal. The defender to the right should sliding in for a tackle or block, but not in PES 14 ;)

and that crap happens all the time for both CPU and you.

1 week since release still no online play on Xbox, therefore I am trading this in for FIFA today, Konami pes team, you really are useless.

I really don't get the hate for the game. I'm having a great experience once I stopped going online due to lag and the fact everytime I tried to pass near my opponents box the receiving player would just hit the ball away.

So back to offline I downloaded the game to the PS3 HDD. I edited the argentine premier with formation and tactics from pes stats database site.

(After my positive exp with how the COM AI worked I'm going to do every league that I have interest in next up chile as I moved them to the Latin 2nd div to play my ML)

I play with default CAM, 15 min games

Semi assist cusor change
0 pass assist
Advanced through ball
Manual control of teammates
Manual pass and shoot
All direction arrows off
Auto feint off
Sliding manual or off can't remember what's the option is called

Playing on professional setting

The games just come to life. My only gripe and it's a good size one is not being able to header off a cross. But the rest of the time I'm like a pig in shit, really enjoying it. Don't get peoples issues with passing, dribbling or shooting. Even my GK have played decent, but I try to make them do as little as possible. I left pes 2013 as I just couldnt enjoy it, but 2014 for me clicks

I havn't played it on professional on the PS3, and the game fails miserably on top player and superstar AI wise, are you telling me its another pes where professional for some reason is better than the supposedly top 2 options... me gonna go give it a blast.

UPDATE: You know what, I think I love you... Just turned it to professional, not only has the rubber banding seemingly stopped, both mine and the computer AI seems to have improved and my first half has just ended 2-2... but only because I was getting excited, gonna keep playing see if it doesn't let me down, will re-post at full time.

UPDATE2: Just finished the match 3-2 to me, still slight rubber banding but not nowhere near as bad, actually enjoyed a game... Once you go to top player and superstar on ps3, everything seems to go to pot, but Professional seems to be balanced... I actually feel like I can play the game, jossling working... pretty much all my peevs dissapear on professional.... Now all I want is them to fix online and then re-do top player and superstar.

EDIT: Jinked in and out of a few players using Ozil, then jossled the last guy off me and rocketed it into top corner to win the game AAAAARRGRHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I'm so happy. I actually found it harder to win on professional but the game was so much smoother.

Yeah players like this in all actuality just have a place holder. Basically Konami knows they are going to give said player a made face so they aren't going to be bothered making one within the confines of the face editor. Same for Kolo Toure, Riquelme etc. It's intentional, albeit a bit stupid.

-1 Game Speed

I'm having a lot of fun with these settings. I may return to 15 minute matches. I'm not sure just yet. Passing has one bar of assistance. I have opted for basic through ball, and basic shooting. Advanced is good for greater control over passing and shooting, but I feel it makes shooting too good. It's so easy to aim for one of the four corners and put a lot of power into the shot, and score more often than not. The advanced through ball is one I may experiment with more. I like adjusting the trajectory, but have not yet got used to the slight delay in advanced through balls being released.

I was a full-manual player for years, until I eventually realized that it hurts player individuality more than a slight degree of assistance appears to. This was the case with FIFA, at least. I may need to give PES a fair shake to see if they implement manual better. Nevertheless, previously, If I aim correctly with the analogue, and select the correct amount of power with B, I can spray long passes like David Beckham, with any average player in the game because it is completely in my control. Attempting the same with a degree of assistance seemed to allow the game more leeway to adjust the pass according to a players attributes. I should try manual in PES to see if it is better implemented.

The speed doesn't differ a great deal between the two. I have been playing -1 for a few games now, after sticking with normal for a run of matches. They're both entirely playable game speeds. It's a case of narrowing in on which of the two best represents the beautiful game as in reality. I shall revert to normal for my next few matches and see how it feels now.

It's still early days. Experimentation is key. It takes a handful of matches to really attune to different settings, otherwise it simply feels foreign and we're more likely to revert to what we know not because it is better, but because we are more used to it.

on -1 the players move and react way too slow for me, like if u watch on tv the most realistic speed would be something around 0 to +1 range

I think it all depends on what league (country) you follow. I find 0 to be a good representation of the Premier League (England). -1 may be a notch too slow in that regard, but a better representation of Serie A (Italy).

I played a lot of matches on 0 last night and enjoyed them all. I similarly had good feedback from -1 prior to that.

I also dropped down to 15 minute matches and think I prefer them to 20.

Yes if your talking about how fast they play in general ( passing etc.. ), but the movement of players and speed while running and reactions etc is too slow on -1, even on 0 somewhat.

man they better fix when the players are in the box i just lost a match cause my men couldnt move smh. and the cursor switch is also bogus. before you get right man you done went threw the whole field lol

I'm just not sure if i can play this game anymore. They've completely over done everything like all the different settings for shooting or passing. After trying them all out none of them seem to work very well; basic passing just isn't good enough anymore as the AI will constantly choose the wrong option for you. Manual passing/through balls take too long to pull off so by the time you set the ball where you want it to go, and the animation runs it's course, you're usually being tackled. And as for trying to do skills, whilst flicking the right analogue to gain some space with your shoulder, and then having to do some bizarre movement with the left and right analogue again, is just an over the top mess of button bashing.

Did I mention trying to make your player make a run whilst hitting LB and pressing the right analogue a millisecond after trying to do all these skills to create some space? And you need to do all of this in the space of 1-2 seconds btw, whilst seeing exactly whats going on on the pitch.

Also, the right analogue flicks will only sometimes do the tricks, and other times something completely different. I've tested this out in training.

AND then add to all of the above having to activate some sort of special team move by bashing more buttons because the AI is too stupid to make any sort of sensible run on it's own.

Who ever designed this needs to be fired. It's the most frustrating mess of a button bashing football game I've ever played, and I've been playing football games for about 20 years.

I really think this is the final nail in Konami's coffin for a lot of people, and football games in general as there is either this, or Fifa and I wouldn't touch the latter with somebody else's, let alone mine, as it's just crap.

I've just stopped playing it until the patch comes out.

No point in me trying to learn how to deal with the game's idiosyncrasies only for them to be resolved once it's updated.

There's a lot riding on this forthcoming patch where I'm concerned, if it doesn't restore PES to something resembling a decent football game it may spell the end of fifteen years of loyalty to the series for me.
