To answer Anas' question as to whether you will notice a difference if you put the resolution to 1080p, the answer is probably not. If you are playing a game that doesn't run at a 1080p resolution (and very few games out today are actually optimized for 1080p) but you have a 1080p HDTV set, then the image will automatically be upscaled to fill all 1080 lines, but the actual resolution will still only be 720p, or whatever resolution the game is designed to run at. By setting it to 1080p, you're not going to get a better image quality from it
Couldn't have said it better.:)

swapped mine around last night and on my TV and IMO ... the 1080i is better then 720p... not much in it though

and how did you turn it into 1080i resolution? my tv is full hd but when i put pes it automatically changes to 720p, what did you do to make it 1080i?

A bit of advice: stick with 720p. 1080i is NOT a better resolution that 720p, because the "i" in 1080i means interlaced, while the "p" in 720p means progressive. What this means is that while you have 1,080 vertical lines of information with 1080i, only 540 of those lines are visible on your screen in each alternating field within a single frame, as opposed to 720 vertical lines of information being visible at all times in every frame with 720p

It is a common misconception that people make, thinking that 1080i is better than 720p, but it isn't. There may be some people who will argue that I am wrong, but I work in post production for television and deal with HD formats all day long. When you're dealing with a lot of movement on screen (ie - a sporting event or videogame) 720p will always look better than 1080i. Period.

Very well said mate

sorry I made the Display Settings 1080i, which is the max that my Tv will allow...

as i said there was very little differance... altho i found it a little darker really...

anyone know in the Display Settings of the ps3, RGB Colour for HDMI should it be Limited or Full ?

^Full. Also, check this back because you cannot run pes 2010 or fifa 10 at 1080i or 1080p. only 720p. Even if in the display setting the maximum resolution is 1080i, the game will make it switch to 720p, then after you eject the disk, the ps3 will automatically switch again to 1080i.

Shaun is correct. I don't know why some people are insisting that PES 2010 will run at 1080i, because on the back of the box (I have the UK version) it clearly says the only resolution it runs at is 720p.

^Remember the x360 vs ps3 gamespot comparison? The reason behind the ps3 images looking less bright with less contrast because it was on limited with no super white option. So it should be set to full. However I think some games look better on limited. Though I have yet to play one.

^Strange. Try this. Make 1080i the only resolution to use for the ps3, and see if pes 2010 runs at that resolution. I don't think it will though.

it doesn't, if i do that it just changes to 480i when pes starts, using a component cable. hdmi chooses all outputs available automatically.

^With HDMI select manual not auto so that you choose from the list manually.
Also if it changes to 480i then the game does not support 1080i.
