it is stupid to jockey in real life all the time even in the oppositions half of the pitch

In real life most of the times players defend by anticipating the attackers actions or approaching them and recognising the right moment to tackle.
And that's how you have to defend 80% of times in PES 2012.

What's the problem here?

Few hours later...a couple of "patches"
I am left feeling very disappointed!

Official patch 1.02 + PESEDIT 2.1 + PSD STATS + Jenkey's Gameplay Tool 3.1 (Decrease shot power, Increase ball weight, Remove AI Cheating = remains unchecked).

I use that combination and after like 90 games now, my only complaints are: GK's are still a bit retarded in some situations (when 1-on-1 they still lack some positioning and are still a bit too easy to dribble), and the only AI cheating is on Free Kicks (SUPERSTAR level).

Other than that, I must say I'm in love with this game and the AI is better than what I though it would be achieved in like 10 years time or so.
Heck, now when playing against AI it actually feels like playing against a good human opponent, and that's a BIG PLUS for PES. This weekend I spent like 14 hours playing this against the CPU and it just got better and more interesting in each game.

So I stick to what I said to some cry babies in here: stop bitching because the flaws are not that significant compared to the positive aspects of this game. And learn how to play the damn game.

@ Luisao82

I am a PS3 man unfortunately!
Otherwise i would be doing the above solutions!

Did the same things with PES4-6 on PC!
Kitservers...stadiums...faces...modded stats....Pure Joy!

Not that PES6 was bad on Console...
it was just the modded PC version was SOO much better!

I am guessing that's the case again!
PES12 on PS3 since all the patches...just feels broken now!

Mibi we should send a DVD of your modded game to KONMAI...
And show HOW PES SHOULD be..on all formats!...lol

My apologies for the missing numbers. I was drunk when I took pictures of the formula, so now I can't read them! I plan to rebuild and get the numbers together soon. Promise

I totally agree. The amount of people that are still bitching about the defensive controls is truly staggering. The defensive aspect and the defensive AI of PES 2012 PC (modded) is the best system there has EVER been. People are crying that they can't tackle; well I can anywhere on the pitch. People are moaning because jockeying is a must, that's what every player does in real life lol, it's just pathetic. Are you people even watching football on the television, do you actually compare defensive units and defending techniques to what you see on the tv with PES, I'm sure you're not. I'm sure you're just trying to defend the way you want to defend. I pride myself on my defence these days, I find the positional aspect of PES to me the most satisfying experience ever, even more so than making lovely attacking moves.

You people just need to practice and stop your whining.

When I played the demo's first of all, it was nothing for me to be losing 4-0, 5-1 against Napoli. I went fifteen games without beaten in one stretch, but guess what I practiced and practiced and practiced. Then one day I beat them. Eventually. I don't think I'll be lying if I said I have probably played over 300 games of all the PES offerings using a variety of settings on different platforms, etc.

My heart does go out to the consoles boys it really does, but I'm not budging from the notion that the game I have on my hard drive is the best/most realistic game of football I have ever experienced.

The more I play this game, the more I get convinced that at least 90% of what was written in the first post is just whining from a soar cry baby who is still incapable of getting a grip on this game.

Gameplay in general: is sooooooo different from PES 2011. It's still not perfect of course, but it has considerable improvements since 2011. Players are more dynamic and move much more intelligently.
I fail to understand who can someone even argue about one of the areas that improved the most.

Passing and and player control: I also have experienced some misplaced and mispowered passes, and this I have to admit is one of the downsides of the game. Though when I removed PASS ASSISTANCE I found out that this problem can be diminished.
Of course, the counterpart is that one have to master the game with no pass assistance which makes the game a bit more difficult. But once you master it, the game really turns even more interesting and rewarding. ;)

I don't use Player control (I really don't need it), so I won't comment on that.
As for the weak shots, just use Jenkey's Gameplay Tool.

Defence: you have to remember that the CPU will not do (and rly doesn't have to do) the work for the human player, it's the human player who has to 'trigger' the CPU to do the right things. Of course, if you just lay down waiting for the CPU to make some crucial defensive decisions for you (like when to hold a position/line, hold tight), you'll never be succesfull and will always think that there's something wrong with the game, when actually the fact that you don't know how to defend is the real problem.
Problem is, you really don't know how to make this right... well, you simply don't know how to defend in PES 2012.

As for strong defenders getting knocked over by weaker attackers, I don't think it ever happened to me (and I've played like 90 games or so). So again, you have some serious and strange problems there, mate.

Goalkeepers: still one of the main downsides of a otherwise almost-perfect and still very interesting and captivating game.
GK's are capable of the best and the worse. Sometimes they make some wonderfull saves, others their awareness and positioning leaves too much to be desired. When 1-on-1 with an attacker they still get beaten in a retarded fashion in some occasions, and are still a bit too easy to dribble.
KONAMI really have to work this out.

AI Cheating: it's not true that your players will make more mistakes than usual when the AI is losing.
The truth is that the AI will become more aggressive, will tend to react quicker, will tend to dribble even more using close control, will position his players better, will make more precise and incisive passes and will be more lethal in front of the goal.
Bearing this in mind, you'll have to react accordingly, defending more actively and aggresively, avoiding risky passes, hasty moves, etc.
So, it's really up to you if you wanna get cheated by the AI or not.

Yesterday I trashed Fulham 4-0 (with Newcastle / Master League / SUPERSTAR level). The AI tried to 'cheat me' as you said... well, guess what, I used the so called 'cheat' against it.
Fulham came charging at me at full gas, but they didn't even afford to get thru my defensive midfield for like 70% of their attempts, as I made my players stand ground, and made the forwards track back everytime they attacked me.
At the end of the game, they just created 2 dangerous situations and one goal situation (Ryan Taylor made a clearance off the line in the 30th minute). I scored from 3 counter attacks and a brilliant 30 meters sitter from Cabaye, and I even managed to create 3 more GOAL SCORING situations from counterattacks, so the 'cheating AI' could have been even further humiliated in that game.

AI controlled players aren't not unstopable AT ALL. Tackles are a veryh delicate part of the game, so one have to be very careful when to tackle or when to just jockey and pressure.
Make much use of the 'Call Teammate' bottom and learn when to press the 'Apply Pressure' and how to choose the right moment to change the cursor to another defender.
The three aspects I mentioned are the fulcral part of my defending, and mastering it has worked wonders for me. ;)

So once again: pratice a lot, coz obviously you suck at PES 2012.

About AI "Cheating" this is statement 100% real deal.. especially about the avoiding risky passes. You have to FREEZE the game for a moment at least, to get hold of it again. Stop the AI momentum, or cheating as you want to call it.

I've only seen ONE situation back in PES2011 which irritated me where straight from kick off against Chelsea, they played after my goal, like one pass on to amf who shot from about 30meters a huge piledriver to goal. Kind of shot I knew I could ever do with an own player.
But I say again, this was once. And Chelsea in a cup semi-finals.

Stopping the AI momentum / prevent their cheating is more like a welcome and interesting challenge to master in my book..

i cant be fussed reading through all the comments above, but i hope you guys agree that the OP is entire trash/rubbish clearly written by someone that is getting battered online!

i play 2/4 pass assistance (i tried them all) and my passing is outstanding, if I am in doubt that the AI might misread my intended target i play a manual (yes it can be done by holding L2/LT) pass, if this fails it's my bad.

Shooting is much more realistic than last year. Aiming my shots is not a problem

The secondary running R3 job is amazing, if you can't handle it, if its too much for your matter to calculate, admit it - don't slate it. You remind me of a person who drives an automatic and slates a manual gearbox - we all know manual is better/faster!

Defending is better than ever, now i have many different paces and stances to adopt as a defending player - sure choosing the correct one in the correct situation isn't always clear cut, but once again that is down to user skill , not bad programming!

PK are dumbed down this year thus not as good as 2011 and this years offering of men between the sticks is still (patch or no patch konami) a massive problem. GK act like retards when advancing upon a striker, never a problem before, but this year it's really bad.

Now....I play only MLO, so....

I personally do not like the way form is this year, sure it keeps the market active (it doesn't really if you know what i mean!), but it impacts the game engine too much having every player on a red arrow. Its too quick, players with the speed merchant card on a red are ridiculous. face Pato, Eto and Villa/Messi and its goodnight nurse, i know this because i have had them in my team, i won 17/20 matches that day.

Last years form was perfect, it was random (aside the form value each player has). This meant for much more even/realistic matches.

Waffle over - peace.
