PES 2012 toughest yet?

So we're a few weeks in now, what are everybody's thoughts?

I love the fact that it's far more difficult than any previous version BUT it's beginning to get really frustrating now.

I've always played on TOP PLAYER, always start on this level with any new game and, while it's always taken a bit of time I've eventually got used to it. So far, on PES 2012 though, I am struggling badly.

The ironic thing is I did alright on the demo, won a few, lost a few (probably more than won) on top player. When the full version came out I was still losing far more than I won, but I was scoring goals.

Of course, there are massive adjustments to be made to the defending this year. I'd be interested to hear how others go about defending because as yet I don't really have a particular preference. Options are using x and giving loads of free kicks away, o for a team-mate to invariably do the same or the new r2 stand off, which has worked to a certain extent. Somebody suggested letting the cpu doing the defending, which to be honest has worked best so far. Not ideal as I like to do the defending myself, much for sense of achievement.

Scoring has now become an issue for me, though that has been since starting master league and that's obviously always tough to begin with. However, it's verging on the ridiculous now. Since starting last night with Middlesbrough I think I have scored one goal in about 12 games. I know it might not be the best team (on top player level btw) but that's just not right. In fact I can barely get a sight on goal. I've tried adjusting training, switching formations and signed a couple of 70+ players, but still to no avail.

I guess it's just a case of perservering and it will eventually fall into place, but at the moment I've got to say I really can't enjoy it.

I might even put master league to the side for now and get some practice in with a decent side in champions league or the world cup.

On a separate note, gtm pro's option file 1.1 looks amazing.

Be interested to hear everybody elses thoughts. Maybe similar stories and any helpful tips?

Cheers

i only play online m8 and tbh i was feelin the same as u about this years game, i started slaggin it off even, alot like the rest of the moaners on here, saying its gone worse and 2011 was way better but after alot of games i started to get used to the new passing, shooting and game speed and i can honestly say the game is awesome, so what i am saying is bear with it and u will see what i mean

Cheers fella. Yeah, I don't understand how people can say it's got worse. The frustrating thing is I know it's a great game, it's just not happening yet. But I'll stick by it, as I usually do, and who knows I might get a sniff of a goal soon! Thanks for sharing that mate.

I have exactly the same experience in ML. It is very hard on pro to the point you can get fired, but too easy on regular. It is extremely hard to score. I feel I can only score if AI allows me to and that I should stop trying to attack if it is in aggressive mode. I only lose the ball and it creates more opportunities for the cpu to score. I know it will get better with 3mil athletic trainer and B team.

Stick to you ML mate but just change down to 'Professional' level. I hate changing down levels but the game is alot harder this year and sometimes you just have to. On 'Professional' it's still a challenge trying to score but you will start scoring goals and getting more realistic results in your ML.

Seriously restart the ml on Superstar mode, it's in extra content if you have not unlocked it yet

Is superstar really easier then pro? I remember someone mentioned that superstar is better. This is against the logic , but may be they have completely separate settings, which happen to make superstar easier. If you played on both could you elaborate what you think the differences are ? I am really inclined to restart on superstar now.

Cheers fellas, all top advice. I heard the superstar idea. I actually tried that earlier today, and after being 2-0 after 8mins I had to stop the game - bad I know but frustrating!! I'm going to have another go at that though now you've mentioned it too. Failing that I might have to swallow my pride and drop down to pro for a bit. Thanks again.

Do you need to restart if you're changing to superstar? You can change it in settings at any point can't you? Or do you need to restart for everything to take effect?
Cheers again!

Basically the scripting is not as prevalent, I never played on pro but I did on top player. Offline I play on -2 and it gives me a feel that I can control a game. Personally I would not say it's easier just more fair. You still have to be able to contain, the com will still slice you apart from time to time. I play on no pass assists, no assists other than hard tackle, also manual 2nd player. Not sure if that helps my enjoyment but I at least have a sense of freedom.

you don't need to restart if you change it to superstar - after unlocking you can change it on your ml save even if you started after you unlocked it

I gave Superstar level a try had about 5 games but couldnt score, i think three of my matches ended 0-0 with the computer just putting 11 men behind the ball all game, then 2 matches i lost 1-0 and 2-0, same thing with the comp just putting everyone behind the ball but then just scoring on a counter attack. I found it too difficult to create chances, although dominating possession in every game. I think the computer plays too tight on Superstar level which makes for boring games. But now I've improved even more I might give it another try, but I still find professional the best level for realistic and enjoyable games.

Fuck Superstar, I had to dip down to Pro level. Setting Everything to manual's a tough, frustrating learning curve

My Pes story so far:

I've loved, hated, cursed, again loved and cursed an loved it again.

Started at professional at version 1.0 than quickly gone up to Top Player and Superstar all on no assistence and game speed -2. Was most of the time lovin' the game.

After the next update version 1.01 I really hated it at first! Gone back from superstar even back to Professional level. Why? I couldn't control the passing and shooting as I did before. Defending and passing were so much differnt after the patch that I got frustrated with the game! Without passing assistence and even with 2 bars the passing was rubbish and unplayable at times. Believe me when I say I ve tried. Many games got lost or draw by stupid mistakes of the cpu IMO.

Also making fouls at your own box is deadly! Conceeded many anoying free kicks already like this! Because I somehow had problems with defending after the patch i decided to play on Professional and changed the 2 bars assuistence to full assistence cause of the useless passing.

Now after playing like 30 games with different teams on Professional 15 minutes, -2 gamespeed, full assistence it's (finally) getting too easy again. So I'm of to Top Player now and maybe try less assistence later on. Now it's enjoyable again, and as a hardcore Pesgamer I can honestly say that I never had such a problem with the gameplay and difficulty against the cpu. But nonetheless rewarding after mastering it again.

Ofcourse, we all know Pes 2012 has it's flaws, problems and tweaks but putting more effort in the game makes it still enjoyable for me. At this time than. Because I ve also been on a point where I want to give up and just wait for the next patch or go back to 1.00. I'm happy now for keep playing and just get used to it with all it's issues.

But with that last note I'm a bit afraid of the next patch coming soon!

Regarding the freekicks I find that if you don't manually position a keeper (l1 + r3 to both activate and deactivate) the COM will score 8/10 times from the FK. I've nOticed once you take control move the keeper off the line into a better position the ball tends to go over the bar, or the keeper makes a save

Also it's so weird how different the game is online to offline.I hadn't played my ml since last Saturday, and had been playing online. To defend withe x + r2 against a human is super tough, so I generally use it sparingly do a lot of r1 to catch a play then l2 to basically try nudge them off the ball. Try get my foot in with x, square or l2. As contain just seems to have no affect against another human...

So I turn the ml back on, and my defending has just gone to pot, my timing is out, I can't contain how I have been.

It seems with me I need to focus just on online or offline and not switch as both seem to suffer when i spend a few days on one and then switch. Anyone else have that issue?

Before i start...
I am an average player, playing with Rangers in ML mode...
Played 10 game on each of the following settings...

Pro - W10
Comfortable Wins...CPU not really busting a gut to score.
And when they do get through...
they basically waste their shots with feeble attempts! STUPID

Top Player - W7 L2 D1
The hardest level in the game!...
BUT, that's more to do with it being Broken Scripted Mess!...
Still won more games than lost though.
But an unfun setting to put the game on

Super Star - W9 D1
The best setting to have it on...
Well, best setting of a bad bunch tbh...
The game doesn't cheat you as much...feels more open and honest!
But still, never under any real threat from the CPU...

One of the games...on superstar...
Beat Ajax 5-0! with Ajax not having a shot until 2nd half!!!!!
I honestly had to go back and check the settings!
Stupidly easy!...

Other games were closer score lines....2-0...3-1....etc...
Even if the CPU went 2-0 up...
there was never any fear of me ever going to lose the game...

And that's with a default lineup Rangers...
No Transfers brought in...and my average playing ability skills!

So for me, PES12 is easier than PES11...

Patch 1.02 coming soon though...
So that could change everything back to zero again!
The game needs addressing for me anyways!
I have stopped playing it and spending time with the misses!
lol

There is definitely some truth in the superstar level making things more enjoyable. I tried it out last night and after going ages without scoring I managed to score in three games on the bounce. The game does seem to open up more though I'm still not totally comfortable with defending.

What's everybody's approach to defending? Say a player is running thru the middle towards the box how do you deal with it? I've been trying x then r2 before you contact the player. Like I said though I'm still not totally convinced.

As for player assistance I use semi assist all the time but for the first time this year I've had full assisted passing (5). I prefer the freedom of zero but as I've been struggling I've tried full assistance. Not sure if it's helping or whether to go back to zero assistance - I do like deciding on the weight of a through pass!

superstar is the only mode of no scripting as the setting was made by itself - not taken into acount by ml or top player
