PES dying a slow and painful death

i cant help but feel this way. im still keeping a teather of hope, but pes is lagging behind as fifa storms ahead widening the gap.

fifa has announced a creation center, which is my favourite aspect of pes, making teams and players. this year i dont expect fifas creation tool to be very good, as its there first try. but nect year when they refine it, i think it could well be the final nail in peses coffin.

what do you guys think? is pes on its last legs? i certainly hope not, but i cant halp but be pesimistic

That won't mean that it's the final nail in the coffin.
The only aspect that fifa nails pes is in the gameplay. Fifa's graphics suck.
Although I stil prefer fifa to pes so far. But all this is based on the gameplay not other things and they won't reach pes in the creation center because what could be better in pes' edit mode? It has everything (well apart from putting logos on socks and shorts).

The problem about this creation center is, that you have to have internet access to take advantage of it. Although most countries have decent internet, here in South Africa internet costs a fortune for a 4mb line and 2gig cap...so you can see where the problem comes in. While in PES anyone who has the game can use it!

Plus the creation center is to create new players and teams if I understand correctly...what's the point, fifa has most leagues anyways...and it's been confirmed you can only import created players into "career mode" and NOT created teams.

And will it allow you to change current players ratings? if not, I don't care about the creation center

Editing etc is secondary and pales in to insignificance especially in the case of Pro Evo. For a game that used to be revered for its ultra realistic gameplay to be left with a decent edit mode and nothing else is utterly meaningless and useless.

Pro IS dying a slow death ever since it moved to next gen consoles, that is a fact and no amount of editing options, slick graphics can make up for the lost gameplay.

I dont know if 2011 will revive the series, as a pro evo gamer for 14 odd years i really hope it does but I have my doubts.

I agree with Phat_Tok completely.

I have been, up till now, in no doubt which football game fulfilled my gaming needs. However, after playing FIFA's WC effort this year, I have to say, I fear for the future of our beloved PES.

Whilst I'll reserve judgement till both are released, I have to say I'm not impressed in the slightest at the videos thus far. I said it last year, and the year before that - Konami should've waited 2 years and actually re-hauled the engine. It's plain to see that 2011 has the same engine as 2010. They have listened to us in areas, but as a whole the next-gen series has been crying out for a bresh of fresh air. PES 2008-10 have not been bad games, but they haven't been what they were on the PS2/N64.

This year, I'm not pre-ordering PES because I just don't trust the development team. Had I seen a massive change of direction, I probably would've. My mind is not made up, but I'm getting sick of minor improvements over a 3 year period.

I feel the same but with FIFA, mm has been a real let down.

Over at the FIFA forum a lot of people are impressed with stadium editor that has been announced.

If the new PES has improved gameplay and is just as fluid as FIFA then I'm sure PES will become a threat to EA once again.

I'm not doubting a stadium editor is a good idea, but it's not the 'bread and butter' of the game.

I'm just worried that lots are being made of the tweaks, whilst I have yet to see any real progress in the gameplay. Yes, there does appear to be a higher degree of freedom but aside from that, I'm not seeing much difference from PES2010.

Like I say, I really want to be proved otherwise - hopefully by the demo.

erik's preview, doesnt sound as positive as the others

We have played PES 2011
Written by 2010-08-04 00: 01: 00 by Erik Hansson
After 15 hours with an almost complete version tells us what we think.
Konami PR team set the bar in February. PES 2011 was allegedly "the biggest change of PES ever". There is hardly a series that is updated annually to live up to such big words. Fans put too much hope and is likely to be disappointed. Now when I played an almost complete version in about 15 hours, I can say that there has been great for mailing rings, but it is also very much that is too similar to last year.

Superficial changes
The superficial changes first. The menus have been a real beauty operation and ensures for the first time in the history of the PES. A row of clear icons at the bottom of the screen that you can quickly browse through. This approach applies to most of the game modes and submenus.
Also the tactics screen has been redesigned and for some stupid reason, Konami decided to let the analog switch control a cursor across the screen to make changes, move around the players on the plan and the like. Also the tactics have been modified and is not quite easy to understand from the beginning. It is possible to set up automatic tactics changes depending on how the game looks and Add instant tactics to button combination Back + A, B, X or Y, It is strongly recommended that you learn to use these to you will be able to influence the game plan.
Nonsense over tactics
One of the things that are not changed sufficiently is bettors ' intelligence when it comes to game without the ball. There can be wide open space for your fellow players to run in, but they refuse to run next to the player with the ball. I try to change tactics and see how they affect the players, but it is not sufficiently reliable. If I choose tokanfall, I would like to see the players rush of surfaces. Do not take a race of 4-5 metres and then hide behind a defender.
Freer fittings with larger requirements
The biggest change in gaming the system is, however, a certain cure for this problem. The free passningarna is a small revolution for the series. Now you can just look in the fittings which way you want and the beauty of it is that it sometimes is very effective to hit balls without address, but which fall into the areas that you can catch up to the opponents. There are more unsuccessful fittings which does not reach to the correct address or is wrong. Sometimes this is annoying and feels overly sensitive, but it becomes much more vibrant.
Each passport must also be balanced by holding down the button for long enough. This means that if you manage and control the bad bad passandet players will show on your plan be disastrous as it will be really happy if you have the correct timing and good players. To strike with butter at genomskärare that opens up defence is easier in the PES in 2011.

The game plan is a little freer with passningarna and ball duels, but there are also a lot to fix for Konami. Judging by what has happened between förtittsversionen and store version of the game during the preceding year, not much changes.

Easier with egenkomponerade manoeuvres
Another thing that is easier to dribbla with good players. It is not easy to sno Ball of a right Back. He has an incredible speed, and also with the Sprint button impression he has the ball close to the body and can make many quick turns or stratagems. You can determine which devices as different combinations with LB and högerspaken will result in, and when it is comfortable with its settings, it is possible to make very good stuff on the floor.
From-2 to + 2
Many annoyed at the speed of its predecessor. It was hysterical quickly in the matches where the attacks. The PES has changed; 2011 It is a little quieter, computer opponents, it takes a bit more cautious with putting pressure on the ball carrier and you can often stay up on the plan and get the second needed to find a gap. This also applies when playing against human resistance. Players are not as good at rush unimpeded with narrow turns and direction changes and a good fitting game can give you the peace and quiet in the middle of the plan.
Would you like to have a quieter tempo can change game speed from the default value of 0 to-1 or-2 to slow down everything that happens on the plane. Would you rather have a high tempo, you can screw it up to + 1 and + 2. Personally I think-2 to + 2 is totally over the top, but you can imagine that some people will make use of + 1 or-1.
Live duels
The battle for the ball has also changed. In PES 2010, it was far too static, but in this year's version can be almost anything happen. Indeed, some rather random and strange situations where player suddenly barely seems to want to have the ball or being removed from the rather simple, but also much more vibrant. In addition, seem to glide body be more efficient in years, which is a huge plus.

This is basically just a Konami PES-team which may have to place a screenshot.

Amended press
The press from the slopes has also changed. You can now hold press-button, but keep the player away from the ball so that he just follows the ball driver. In the right mode, drag lever against him, and with a little luck pressing you the ball. You can still work well with the usual press-tactics even if we have to look a little better at tajmingen and vary between waiting and trying to squeeze a little better.
The worst is a new camera
Unfortunately, there is a lot of things that were not corrected. I think the players sometimes is too tough when it comes to receiving the ball and start the game, the objectives of the guards and frisparkarna is equal time folly sooner, players are a bit too often very stupid and get organized, they have still no grip on the side lines, they react too late when it becomes the case, commentators say still too often errors, and the new bisittaren adds nothing.
The biggest shortcoming of this version of PES in 2011, however, is that the camera has changed and now looks to be handled by praoelever. It happens far too often for quick conversions that are not camera can adequately with the result that we don't really see who gets the ball or how it looks around ball recipient. It should be easy to fix, but I really hope that Konami is savvy enough to fix it before the launch.
Arenas, community, and South America
Other minor matters that may be mentioned if the game is that you now can create stadiums. Select name, pattern in the grass, color, fences and type of stands, the color of the seats, the background environments and type of relief bench. Your creations can then be saved and exported or imported. Community-mode is also included which saves statistics between multiple players on the same console. A Copa Santander Libertadores-mode has also been introduced with the entire 40 South American law.

To take the ball from Volley is not the easiest thing to do. Hopefully, however, not all onlinematcher (most of which will be in Barcelona in Barcelona) is to take the ball to him and let him do the job.

New surface to Master League
The career mode Master League have received some small changes, but most of it is the same again from last year's big update. It is, in fact, the presentation and the graphic that changed most. First impression is that a lot has happened, but it appears only on new, improved, more often than not.
Not the most significant change
Generally, I am somewhat satisfied with the PES in 2011. I like the greater freedom to plan, but it is still quite a lot of strange events that occur on the plane that cannot be explained other than bad programming. I think it's very sad to see that Konami has done more for a lot of matches. To compare the mood PES 2011 with FIFA World Cup 2010 is just embarrassing and their attempt to make a more tv-based camera led only to that one does not always see what happens.
There may still be time for Konami to fix the little things, but it is unfortunately a little too much little quirks that are not ready to PES 2011 will feel like the big change that Konami would have us believe. The biggest change in game series history is still the failed step to this generation of consoles.

Kiwanis,

This review of the almost final version of the game reads and sounds like the final nail in the coffin of Pro.

Waiting for the release date is feeling more and more like the day I and many others who loved the series will be put of our misery. Game Ova Pro.

I agree.

Gameplay was what made Pro Evo the success it was. The earlier versions may have had plain kits, and wrong names, but the gameplay more than made up for it, and people bought it because of that. It seems that PES is now being made to accomodate the "fifa style" fans, where right names and kits, boots, and editing are taking first priority, and the gameplay is now a secondary concern.

Its too early to judge what 2011 is going to be like though. I'll wait for more gameplay videos, and the demo, but until then its jury out for me.

Havng just seen the most extensive gameplay video thus far on yahoo I am filled with utter dread.

The movement of the players still has the look of them sliding around on ice which has been the biggest problem with the next gen versions and the ball looks like a ping pong ball in relation to the size of the goal.

While any fear/concern regarding the game will not be confirmed until the game is released I for one have nevertheless resigned myself to the fact that this will be another year of sheer heartbreaking disappointment.

Seabass and the rest have f*ucking lost it!

I am living in hope, and thats it.

For PES to really come back with a bang it needs a good foundation to build on and has to be excellent in this Next-Gen gaming world or they don't stand a chance against Fifa who have made a healthy transition to this Generation.. where they've actually improved and PES has gone backwards from the days of PES 5 and PES 6 which I absolutely loved to bits :)

i think that the people that are that excited about the creation centre must read your post better or explain to me what i am missing

Completely disagree. For me, Pes since the leap to next gen has been a slow and painful birth rather than death. No one can deny that it is getting better since 2008, even though that's not saying much as 2008 was terribad and the improvements leave much to be desired but it's improvement nonetheless.

Pes 2010, although far from my favourite edition, still keeps me playing a few days a week. Yes it has some shocking flaws, but there are many moments when those flaws don't make it to the surface during gameplay. Those moments make for some beautiful football and imo those moments puts Fifa's moments to shame. Fifa also has plenty of flaws of its own so there's plenty of room for improvement for both companies to try and take advantage of.

There's really no need for people to keep mentioning all this gap talk. Fifa have always destroyed Pes when it comes to units sold, even during all those years when it was rubbish. Pes has always relied on its niche market. Fifa has always been in the lead and as long as EA are involved, it always will be but Pes has always been able to manage despite having some rubbish editions of its own. What does this all mean? It means Pes ain't going anywhere anytime soon, especially with Pes 2011 introducing many new ideas and universally being regarded as showing big improvements over 2010. There's absolutely no need for Pes to 'catch up' to Fifa as even if that were the case EA will still enjoy the huge lead in sales. Konami just needs to focus on its own series and keep improving to meet their own fans' needs while at the same time trying to deliver a different experience compared to Fifa (seriously what's the need of having 2 very similar games?). With the way things are shaping up this year I honestly believe a huge number of Pes fans will be happy.
