I get so irritated playing this game. NO, I don't play online. I refuse to. First off, I don't play this game enough to compete with the major wierdos who play online. Secondly, I don't play with stacked teams. Thirdly, I hate playing games against nerds who just use the exploits to score goals.
So, in turn, I play all my games against the CPU. This is where I just have so much fun. I have broken about 3 controllers now and I know the latest controller I've bought will not last me more than a month. Why do I do this you might ask? Hmmm.... well, let's examine this.
Ever wonder why your players don't run in the direction you are pressing on your joystick? I will be playing a game and notice that my players have a mind of their own. I will clearly be pressing the right button, but my player will continue to run straight. I just want to know how it is possible that the Konami programmers can sit down and "test" this game and say, "I think we have a good product here". I have never played a video game that literally takes control of your players. I though that was the whole point of playing the games.
Ever wonder why whenever the championship starts to get tight, it just seems like your players start to get dumber and dumber. I play with Juventus and let me tell you, the better the team, the harder this game is to swallow. My defense is AWFUL. They don't understand how to stay in position, they constantly sprint upfield when I need them deep the most, and when a header comes into the box, the computer frequently freezes my guy so I can't move him. YAAY FUN!
I just don't understand how Konami can put out a product where you fight against your own team, more than the other team. I understand that they don't want to have to pay for intelligent programmers, but I think that they really should start. The problem is that Konami know we will buy the next game no matter what. So, they can change nothing, maybe add and extra move or two, change the menu's a bit, but basically they change nothing in the span of an entire year.
It is just amazing to me how my players can blast a ball from point blank range over the net 11-12 times a game, just because the computer want to see a 1-0 game opposed to a blow out. So, instead of actually programming some new defensive AI, the computer just controls your players and makes them suck. I call it the "Crowbar", because it is like someone just hit a golf style shot at the football and it goes straight up in the air. Quite amazing.
Another great feature Konami adds is the back to back goal extravaganza. This is where you are ahead in a game by one. With 5 minutes to go the opponent scores some beligerant, retarded, unfair goal and you start bending and twisting the controller in your hand. Konami wants you to say, "Gee golly I need to hold the lead better (cackle, cackle)", implying my defense must be the issue. However, it is hard to comprehend their BS because when the goal was scored I was trying to run to a loose ball but my player kept changing speeds just so the opponent could pick up the ball right in front of me, blast a slow roller at Buffon who lets this difficult softy bounce off of his face and to my defender, who I tell to clear by pressing square, but when I do this the ball is mysteriously passed to a wide open oppenent so slugs home the hardest shot i've ever seen. I guess my defense must suck.
But, it isn't all bad after this. The best part is, in this back to back goal extravaganza, I get to move my best player through their non-existant defense and rifle a shot (finally) on net and past the keeper. What excitement. BACK TO BACK GOALS in the last 5 minutes. Wow, I just can't wait until my next joyous game!
The controller breaking part usually comes in, when I don't get this BS goal. Or when players like Del Piero's first touches bouce 100ft away from him. It is truly amazing how bad my players suck when the computer wants to win.
When is Konami going to improve their AI? Why do I continue not only to buy this game, but to play it? Why can other people enjoy this lame game and I can't? Wierd.
I just don't know. I guess I have some issues.
