PES5 Impressions thread

And how often do you score...? Also watch a football game and count the number of times posession is given away, it's quite high.

if you are on attack, yes, you will take chances with your passing. that's how it is. but when I talk about bad passing I'm talking about defenders, who are under no pressure, passes the ball into the open mouth of my hungry strikers. that doesn't happen, unless you have team of average joes, which we don't have in PES5.

I don't score that often. most often I don't score or I score one goal. I have standard gamelength (10min). I would prefer to see more results in the region of 2-1, 2-2, 3-1.... not like now, 0-0 and 1-0.

I cant comment on scorelines against the computer as ive yet to play against them but with my mates it was a good mix of results

0-0, 3-1, 3-2, 2-0, 2-2, 4-1

For those of you who, like me, havent got the game yet but are constantly checking this thread in fear that Konami have screwed up this year (there seems to be a worrying amount of negativity surrounding the player control, speed and passing), you might find this review comforting. Seems like a pretty balanced outlook to me...

Here's hoping Play manage to deliver it to me tomorrow!

yeah it a good game the editing i way way better than pes4 but when you play a match there isn't any crowd and in the italian league there is a team which isn't liscensed

Also just noticed that the blackened out Predators are not in there and also the F50's with the bright yellow/green lines. Im sure I seen them in a thread which was boots that were in Pro Evo 5 and WE9??...(They were not patched)

EDIT - I see them now :D

Well I have to say I am very impressed with the game. The crowd glitch did spoil it a bit but all in all it is the most realistic game of footie ever. One thing I notice is that players pass, move, run and shoot in exactly the same way as their real life name sakes. In my first game I as a Liverpool supporter opted for them at home to Chelsea a game I lost 1 - 2 but in knowing the actual Liverpool team like the back of my hand I was amazed to see Gerrard move and shoot just as he does in real life. I even got pissed off when I as Luis Garcia kept losing the ball!! It's gonna take time but I'm gonna get stuck in. What a game!!

Not anywhere near far enough in to give an accurate view, but here are my first impressions.

Pros:
-Far more realistic. No more skinning five players and slotting it past the keeper every other game.
-No more cheap lob shots with impossible physics that are basically guaranteed a goal.
-Players carry on more times after they've been fouled. Rooney was brought down, stumbled for a bit, stayed on his feet and scored a rocket from outside the area. That goal was probably the most realistic I have ever scored in a football game.
-'Keepers throws aren't just tame, three-yard under-arm throws to the nearest fullback. They can actually set off decent counterattacks.
-'Keepers kicks don't take forever to land, allowing the opposition ample time to get a defender under the ball to clear it away. If you're playing a 4-3-3 and one of your wide men is in space, the keeper will pick him out and set off a break.
-Far less often does shooting from outside the box resort in a tame shot straight into the 'keepers hands.
-Long-rang passing is much more effective, and much more direct than on Pro Evo 4.
-Player movoments are far more realistic. The way players shoot, pass and tackle looks very close to their real-life counterparts.
-Crosses have been improved. No longer do I get frustrated after working a great opportunity to get my winger in acres of space only to be disappointed time and time again by his final ball. Crosses on PES5 are far more accurate, far quicker, and they don't hang in the air like they used to on PES4.

Cons:
-No crowd. For a game to be released in this state is just amateur.
-Commentary still dire. Doesn't bother me, but it's still laughably bad.
-Poor first-touch. I'm all for added realism, but dribbling in real life isn't this hard.
-Graphics. FAR too similar too PES4. Everything about it is identical. The players faces, the stadia, everything. Other than the menus I have yet to notice anything different about the graphics.
-Kits. Now I haven't played as many teams yet, but I've been United, Newcastle and a couple of French teams and the kits look dreadful. Newcastle's especially is an absoloute joke.

I'm not understanding peoples complaints about too many free-kicks being given, for me it's even less than PES4. The advantage rule seems better than previously, and unless you play Pro Evo by running up to the person in posession and mashing the X/A button, then I still fail to see how you're getting so many free-kicks against you.

Overall I'm very impressed. I can totally understand people who say it's too similar to PES4, because to be honest, it's virtually the same game with some of the physics tweaked, the player movements improved a little and flashier menus. If somebody took a screen shot of Pro Evo 4 and Pro Evo 5 and asked me to identify which was which I don't think I would be able to unless the Pro Evo 5 screenie had John Terry, Thierry Henry or Didier Drogba mean mugging.

I wasnt sure when I got it yesterday if I liked it, but now :) I love it, its great. Alot more realisitc and just all round much better!
Quick question, when picking which team to control, do you guys use Manual or Auto (if so how many bars) or Fixed?

I use manual Los Galactico.
It is much better for defending IMO. Much much better to cut down spaces in defense and cut down passes from the opponent.

huge dissapointment

its really bad. i couldn't believe it. Pro ev 4 was so good and then this...
If you even touch a player its a foul, control is awful, passing is slow and unpredictable, shooting is over sensitive and the players are slow aswell. I ve bought every pro ev and have never even looked at a f**a game(and never will) but this is a huge dissapointment. I don't see how people don't agree with me, maybe ure just trying to be loyal.

Give it some time. I wasn't sure about PES 4 when it came out last year but came to love it. Surely enough, PES 5 feels a bit different (although not so much) from PES 4 and the refs don't bother me so much. One has to learn to come into the opponent from the right direction, it isn't possible to axe them down from behind.

I also find it difficult to score in PES 5, I create some good plays by passing the ball around but the efficiency resembles that of this years Ajax. Great game though, it growing on me.

I think the keepers are far more realistic now. In PES4 they were godlike (besides the 'stand and watch it hit the post and go in' glitch).

Try playing a very attacking 3-4-3 or 3-3-4. I score a goal every 2-7 minutes (real life time) like that.

Heh, what a change from the old days of WE7, where on 5* I could do that kickoff sprint-goal by Pele (takes the ball, runs right through everyone and scores in 3-4 seconds).

I think you reviewed the game well.
