I'd like to know your thoughts on the following:

We all like to talk about and make suggestions towards the next installment of the Konami series, PES 4, WE 7, WE 7 Jap etc. When I look at the game, I marvel at how far the series has evolved: how much more lifelike the players are; the variety of goals one can score; the ever increasing "reality" of it all. We've come a long way from games like Sensible Soccer which, despite its obvious merits, was the footballing equivalent of Pong.
However, my mind always drifts towards thoughts of where this and other games are heading. Technology is going through an exponential series of advancements these days. So much so, in fact, that I wouldn't be surprised if in the next 10 years, the thin skin between reality and fantasy is breached. For example, in the year 2014, PES 14 (let's hope they've come up with a new name, eh?) will be like watching Monday Night Football, only with better commentary! It'll be like you are watching football, but also controlling what the players do. Maybe it'll be a completely virtual experience, where you are one of the players, or in the crowd?

While I concede that football would likely be the last thing to be affected by such technological advancements (1st being sex, I'd imagine! ), I'd appreciate any thoughts ye guys might have on the subject.

I can imagine an option to play online with 21 other people. And an option to watch an online game on your screen too.
Maybe they will improve the refereeing and offside decisions by then... or maybe that might happen in real life too!

Didn't Seabass mention something like that for PES4? Let's hope so.....and the ability to replicate yourself in the game too.

I think in 10 years the game may not excist and there will be another football game to replace it....I can't look that far ahead.

Yeah, but there will be A game. OK, say 5 years.

I believe that they could make the game like that now but they can make much more money by bringing out PES3, PES4, PES5, PES6, on the Playstation 2, 3, 4, 5 etc, if they jumped straight to virtual reality games they would loose to much money, just look how many different versions of Winning Eleven they have brought out this year, and Im sure most of the people in this forum have bought every one.

WE 1,2,3,4 etc. don't you think it will end sometime. although i hate to bring that idea but it's going to happen someday, won't it? anyway i think if they improve the game to as real as real life football that would be it. no more foolish mistakes by defence no more missile wise shots as WE7I. I think it would be great. till 10 years coming we'll be surprised if konami did not impress us.

Who knows, look at final fantasy!!! i personally dont like the game but its at its 11th or 12th game now. I also think about how much technology and graphics etc has changed in the past 10years. Working in a computer shop has shown me the enhancments and the improvments that has occurred. Whether or not WE or PES is around in ten years if we have anything to go by there will definatly be a game that will eventually challenge it. Look at F*fa for example, i dont think anyone can say that when they played "F*fa 98 Road to world cup" we thought that within a year or two there would be a game that would eventually exceed the games "brilliance". Football is a big gaming industry and all I have left to say is, ROLL ON WE AND PES AND ROLL ON THE NEXT 10 YEARS!!!

Possibly my longest post ever \o/

actually the advances over the last 10 years are the exact same things we'll see in the next ten.

better ai
better graphics
better realism

there wont be some Jetson's thing going on
-holograms,
-VR helmets
-crazy controller thing...like a shoe you wear or something gay

Oh and in 10 years, Sony's Playstation 6's controller will still be the best on the market.

Some of the things that would make an ultimate football game (WE/PES series) are:

- Perfect GAMEPLAY - just PERFECT no mistakes whatsoever.
- Ref needs to be seen on the pitch..
- The best GRAPHICS, 99.5% similar to real life.
- Players spit on the pitch, chew gum, and get into fights with their oponents.
- When playing at daytime, in the middle of the game the night comes.

etc

why is everone obsessed with players making 'no mistakes'? That's what makes the game real. anyone ever watched real football? even the best defences occassionally leave players un-marked, the best strikers miss easy chances etc...
it would be pretty easy for konami to make the AI in the game 'perfect', never missing a tackle, or scoring with every shot, but that wouldn't be realistic. Great AI means it would feel like there were 22 real people running around in the game, and that means stupid mistakes and mis-hits thrown in with the moments of brilliance.

ya never know. advances in some areas of technology are exponential! there may be a breakthrough someday, somewhere, deliberately or by chance. besides, i'm just dreaming, but can you imagine!
