Hi i need help with palyer and range support, i.e. when my AMF has the ball, i want my CF, WF, MF to run forward so i can send them a through ball, What are the right settings to do that?
i.e. Player support: 15 Support range: 10 or PS:10 and SR: 15 ???

Player support is build-up play so that should be around 15. Support range is important to but that means compactness so they'll be more closer to you so it should be lower around 6

another question, when you select a player, i.e. to change his position (CF,WF,MF), there is a higlighted area in the field for each player, i.e. for messi both sides and penalty area, for ibra only the penalty area, this means the area where they are good or the area in wich they tend to stay ?

This means where they are good at in the area.
Their overall will increase or decrease depending on where you put them though - if you put messi on the left, he can drop down to 96

Does the support range determine the distance they'll stay from the dribbler? It seems like it would at face value, but the low end of the scale is "wide", and the high end is "narrow", leading me to believe it has more to do with whether they'll drift in or out in support.

Yes, it is the latter - a high one would make better runs inside but a low one would make players spread out wider

Sorry, it means if the support range is high when you won’t see players getting too close to the ball carrier. Using the area of the pitch very well and spread nicely is high

But then why would the 2 choices be "wide" and "narrow", and not "near" and "far"? Doesn't make sense to me.

So if i set player support at 20 and Range support also at 20, playes will spread out and up (diagonally)?

I'm no expert on these settings. However an other way to make your forwards run, is using the R3 (if you're on ps3). It's actually quite effective, when your cmf/amf is in ball position.

Yes, thanks Rasmus, I also use it, I just want to fully understand the player/range settings.

Player Support: Choose the awareness level of players positioned around the man in possession. High: Offensive. Low: Defensive.
Support Range: Choose how far the supporting players position themselves around the man in possession. High: Wide. Low: Narrow.
Position Switch: Choose how frequently players swap positions. High: Frequent. Low: Never.
Attacking Style: Choose which flank to attack from. High: Down the middle. Low: Out wide.
Pressing: Choose how tightly players will pressure an opposition player on the ball. High: Tight. Low: Loose.
Defensive Line: Choose how far upfield the backline will position itself. High: High. Low: Deep.
Compactness: Choose how close players will position themselves around an opposition player on the ball. High: Wide. Low: Narrow.

I got this from http://www.justpes.com/category/leagues/la-liga/barcelona/ This explains it properly
