Do you think they are justified?
sometimes no matter what i do i get crap ratings of 5.5 and 6.0 even though i was among the best players in my team.have compared ratings with my other team players and really there is not much diff between their and mine stats.still i get 5.5 - 6.0 and they get 6.5.
Also what counts as an intercept? The total never tallies with the intercepts i make on field.

Try to keep the ball in your feet more, shot on target, sometimes try to score yourself, make intelligent passes. In the first season I could get a 7.5. Also distance dribbled counts alot.

But then again, we ARE dependant on our teammates a lot. And our team mates are complete idiots.

btw my team won the training match 1-0.

Did you stray out of position much?
Yeah i run the entire length of the field most of the time.the AI is too shitty to trust.i would rather get the ball on my own rather than wait for my team players to intercept the ball and pass it to me.Whenever i have tried to play in position my team has gone down by a goal.Nowadays what i do is play covering football. i run into gaps or try to take up positions in front of the opponent players so that the opposition cant pass easily,no matter which part of the field i am.this has resulted in fewer goals conceded by my team.although it doesnt help my rating i guess.

You can check where you've been most of the time after the games (at the rating screen if I remember correctly) and - even though I'm not sure - straying out of your position slashes your rating a bit.

Although you might get a new position from doing it. I got SMF all of a sudden, despite being a CF, just because I take runs on the side every now and then.

True, but it gets better the more seasons you play. Truest me It will. I was in the 4th season in the X360 BAL and my team mates did pass me alot and weren't the idiots they were in season 3.;)

Personally ive found the ratings to be a bit weird from time to time but for almost all of my current season ive got mainly 7.5's, some 7.0's, a few 6.5's and like one or two 6.0's. Im playing for Lyon as a right WF this season and i move around the pitch a fair bit to get into spaces and to track back etc and it never seems to do me any harm regarding ratings tbh.

I don't know how they do it, but the ratings in the game are pretty fair. I usually know when I've played bad and get a 5.5. And the reason is, that the rating is very realistic and like real life you can disagree with the computers opinion.

The first thing you have to forget about is passes made, interceptions, and stats in general. I was too fixed on that at the beginning, sometimes to the point you stop playing good football. If you focus on getting open (not running like crazy around the field), getting your passes right, moving the ball and opening spaces, you'll find you get better ratings at the end even if you don't score or get an assist.
If you do that and play well (that doesn't necessarily mean you get all your passes rigth, and intercept a few... you have to make the game move, dribble safely, get your teammates involved, even if they suck, etc...),their are other things that contribute to a better rating:

1- If your team wins, you have a better chance of getting higher ratting. For example, if you played well and scored, you can get a 7 on a game you didn't win or tied. If you would have won that game, you would have gotten a 7.5 or an 8.

2- Assists usually account for better ratings than goals. But goals are more important if you want to become MVP. Like always this is not a 100% rule, because their are many factors involved.

3- It doesn't matter if you play 5 minute matches or 15 minutes. If you touch the ball twice and score or give an assist, you'll have a good rating. The thing is, that with longer matches you usually get more chances to do that, also you get more chances to make mistakes, so try to calm yourself a bit in longer matches. I played my first two seasons in amateur mode in BAL, and 5 minute matches were more than enough most of the time. If I knew I was going to come of the bench I put 10 minutes instead so I would have more chances to get involved in the game. It payed off: my legend is 21 and a star with ratings in the 90's 80's and 70's. Now I played 10 minute matches in regular mode with him to compensate for the difficulty.

4- Use the speed R1 button wisely. You have to use it just to get an advantage, not to move around the field all the time, cause you lose agility and precision. Try to move normally and give normal passes, and use the burst to move down the flanks or to get to balls before your opponent.

5- You have to get involve. Staying all the time at your position is not going to help you and is not real (is football not chess). But don't get crazy, because your teammates are sensitive to the way you play. If you leave a lot of open spaces in the defense or get to close to your teammates all the time you and them are going to make a lot more mistakes.

6- Use the pass request button with discretion. Even if you don't get the ball, if you hit the Pass Request Button, your teammates get confuse and tend to do the first thing that's on their "mind", not always being the right thing. If your not close to the play and/or are surround by opponents DON'T hit it. Try to get open. If they failed its only because It would be very boring to win all the time. If you are patient you'll find they play much better and you'll win more games, thus getting better ratings.

CONCLUSION: Be patient but play your heart out, get involve, and try to play as you would do in real life. Touch the ball, get open, score.

I've yet to get a rating above 8 :(

Although I've had 8 many times, it just wont go above that for some reason!

i.e played against United. Won 6-0. I scored a hat trick, all 3 set upby Torres. Torres scored a hat trick, all 3 set up by me.
Passed the ball well, not sure if I even gave it away once, was sending through lovely through balls etc etc.

What did I get?? 8. And so did Torres........................

Once I saw an 8.5 from Ramos, playing in Real Madrid. He only had an assist. I believe this is because you would have to be perfect to get a 10, and perfection doesn't exist according to our dear Japanese friends, specially in a group game. I have a Theory ratings are given in a group manner, where you have 11 players and you have a maximum of 110 points to give. If 11 players where perfect with 3 asists, 3 goals, didn't miss a dribble or a pass and never loosed the ball, they will all get 10. So Konami knows this is impossible and tells the AI to give 90 points among all the players. If you have an 6 - 0 game, that would mean your team was really good, so other players should get high ratings to thus eliminating the possibility to get GOD like ratings for your player (that would probably be so if you scored all 6 goals without assist).

I'm mainly bothered with the ratings other players get. Sometimes I get a 7.5 rating (as a CF) for scoring two goals, making about 12 passes, all of them being succesful and having made about 6 shots, with 4 being on target. And on top of that I've made, like, one intercept and I've covered quite some ground with the ball.

The other CF however, gets a 7.0 rating. And for what? 7 passes, all of them being succesful, 1 shot on target and less dribbling than me.

Its really ridiculous.

btw my team won the training match 1-0.

You touched the ball 30 times. 4 of those times were interceptions. 1 was a shot on target. And 18 were passes, of which 17 were completed. That means you (according to the game) wasted possession 8 times. The other two players in the comparison wasted possession less. The other CM wasted possession 6 times. And the SB, who recieved the highest rating, wasted possession 5 times. The computer must have based the ratings around this.

It's a tough one, though. You had a 90% success rate for passing, which is higher than either the CM or SB, and weighed in with more interceptions. But squandering possession is the cardinal sin, and it shows, because even with their lower passing success, and fewer interceptions, the CM and SB managed to keep the team in possession of the ball more often (in relation to their time on the ball).

I also think that the difficulty/quality of a pass comes into consideration. And whether or not said pass is the final ball that leads to an effort on goal. The SB may have put in a good cross (perhaps more than one) that lead to strong effort(s) on goal.

Yellow cards are not to be ignored, either. They seem to affect ratings. But most of all make your time on the ball count.

Thats quite a good analysis Winger but i had actually thought about that aspect.i even played a game in which i didn't lose the ball even once.i made 32/32 passes without squandering possession and yet i got a rating of 6.0.i have to admit that my intercepts were 0 though.
Sometimes i do think there is some fairness to the rating system cos all my passes were 2-10 yard passes i didnt contribute anything to the team with my passes. But like Can-o-Mark what bothers me is the fact that the ai seems to get away quite easily with poor performances and higher ratings.that's what is sickening.

One thing I really wonder is how match rating affects being picked for the National team.

I am the biggest scorer in my BAL game at the moment, my avg ratings are 7.45 (top of the list) and I am also in the middle of the assist list.
And I mean for all the leagues.
There is not a single Argentine player above me on any of the statistics and still I was left out of the World Cup squad.

Crespo, Aguero, Palermo, D. Milito and Higuain was the attackers picked hehe... I feel betrayed :(

^That's the first season right?
The game reads it that you will be selected in the 2nd season.

Yep, just like the individual awards (EPY, WPY), its based on the previous seasons performance.

Even then, it doesn't show you in the squad until the tournaments start *sigh* it should really show you in the national squad from the start of the season.
