This has probably been discussed before but i want to see if anyone also notices this.
I got a 5.5 in a match and my team mate i think was Carew got a 6.5 however when i delved deeper in the stats like shots (on target) both CF role. I had less minutes on the pitch however dribbled more, more shots and on target, basically everything about me was better than him but he got a better rating.

I think the ratings have always stinked in Pro evo as unless you score or get assists very rare to get a good rating. Frustrating.

Ratings this year especially are a joke in become a legend. They're not bad in other modes but in bal it's unbelievable. They suck. No other word for it. Too much AI cheating to let you have a good rating I guess.

this is the main reason why I don't even bother with this mode, I will never play BAL unless Konami fix their stupid ratings system. That is also why we can only play attacking or midfield positions, can you imagine trying CB or something in this mode with the useless ratings. You would probably retire in the youth team aged 40.

That's odd.

I find it a little too easy to get good ratings, myself.

Once I adapted to Professional (Top Player has WAY too much AI cheating), then I found it pretty easy to get 7.0 and upwards.

^But not in the 1st season because the game does everything to make you get less good ratings. Also because it's hard aswell.

Meh, I usually find that the game cuts you a lot of slack in the first season, only to be so much harder in the consecutive ones.

But thats just how I feel it. Of course its hard, but use what you have. Dont play like you're Messi just yet ^^

I guess there's no hope in continuing with DM player?? i always get 6.0 ratings and 6.5 being the highest. Its so hard to get good ratings unless you score a goal or haven an assist which is what DMs usually dont do.

Try to block as many passes as possible and you'll get at least 6,5. After you get some experience and get to give free kicks and corners you'll get better ratings.

ive found the ratings to be pretty consistent and fair all the way through my BAL. i am in like 5th/6th season for Real Madrid as AMF.
The best way to get ratings, regardless of position is to literally chase the ball non stop all game. put tons of effort in. in your 1st couple of seasons, when you get the ball make sure you pass it accurately, do not give it away cos then you will get a poor rating.
also join every attack if possible. even at DMF they rate you highly if you go forward and dont really play defensively, as long as you are seen to be getting back into position.
another thing to look for is just where there are holes in your teams formation. like if there is no midfielder holding when you are attacking, i find it a good idea to go and fill this position even as an AMF, if you do this, often the AI are sympathetic and allow you to win the ball back when the ball is inevitably blocked / cleared and therefore give you a good rating.

i would say a lot of it is to do with making good passes and clever runs. also call for the ball all game long, they like to see the effort then when you get it, do lots of little short accurate passes occasionally trying a through ball, but only when you are definitely sure it will work.

keep this up for a while and your ratings will improve, putting you into European 11 and World 11 in no time. ive been nominated twice for world and european player of the year but been beaten twice by strikers. Drogba won it this year, and bearing in mind he starts the game in his 30's, he must be 35+ on my game and that has me wondering whether a midfielder can win POTY

and does anyone know how player of the year is graded? is it done by your ratings or just randomly?

yeh, me too. In PES2009 I saw 8.5 rating a few times, i PES2010 I get them quite frequently. Never gotten a 9 or 10 though. I am man of the match or most important player 95% of the games I play or more.

PS. It's not really the rating system that's broken... it's the AI that always play crappy and deserve crap ratings for it, basically. That's what needs to be fixed. More attempts on goal and less success rate and more goals by AI would help. The AI is too indecisive in redicilous situations like when they are completely clear on goal among other. In modern football ball losses are much more frequent due to innaccurate break through balls rather than loss in duels, however in PES it's the other way around. Losing the ball gets penalized harder than missed passes in the rating system, wich means AI gets crap rating.

How often do you see an AI striker run straight towards the defence without looking like he's even trying to get past and then he lose the ball? Almost every two or three attack.

I have never, in pro 09 or 10, seen more than an eight. I'm talking 20+ seasons of BAL, games in which I've scored 5 and got 4 assists. I was sure the highest rating you can get is 8. I've never seen more than 8 in other modes either :eek:hmy:

I thought that 8.0 was max as well, but after a few seasons of my 10th-15th BAL career on PES2009 i got my first 8.5 and I'm quite certain that 8.5 is not the highest rating. That would be an odd number to choose as a top rating if that's the case.

As I mentioned, I've gotten 8.5 several times in PES2010, maybe 10-15 times or so. I find it hard to see what I could do better in those matches to get a potential 9.0 or a 10. I guess I play outside my assigned area too much for that to happen... (I play box-to-box AMC / SS and fully utilize the wings on both sides, fatigue is taking it's toll though)

I've also read about people claiming they've got 9.0's and even 10's but I have never seen that rating myself.

1 goal and 1 assist in a match will get you the same match rating as scoring 10 goals and 10 assists if the field play is the same. (same amounts of succeeded passes, run with ball and ball wins)
1 goal, 1 assist, 1 key pass, 1 key tackle would get you better rating than both the above. Diversity and total football is promoted in this game, as long as you stay in the vicinity of your designated area for the majority of the match. 1 goal and 10 attempts at goal will get you better rating than 2 goals in 2 attempts as well. Some positions get more bonus to rating for shots on goal, while others get more for winning the ball or passes.

The rating system is pretty weird but all in all it works ok, but it can be exploited.

^^ If you are scoring 3 goals a game in Become a Legend, maybe you have the difficulty setting too low... Maybe playing on harder difficulties gets you a higher rating too? I average 7ish on Top Player, but have got an 8.5 before. I only scored 2 and set up one, and had defensive rating B.

the rating sometimes are pretty WTF-ish..i just played a very good game (on top player)..i scored a goal and made an assist (both very classy:p), had 5 interceptions and played an overall great game (B defence rating), and we won 2:1, so i considered myself to be quite the hero in that game, and expected a 7.5 rating atleast..only to be struck with a measly 6.5..WTF!?

* as for the above 8.0 rating..i still don't believe it even exists, could someone post a proof of it or something?

I don't feel the need to prove anything to you, actually, because I don't really care if you think 8.0 is top rating or not. In BAL, an average rating of 7.80 will get you player of the century awards anyway. An average rating of 6.50 will eventually get you into Barcelona as well.

And the reason why you would get fairly low rating for a game you think you played well, your combined ball losses (failed passes, losing the ball to a defender in duels etc.) was nearly equal to the positive things you did (Score goals, assists, shot attempts, crosses etc.), and you get a rating that reflects that. In a realistic setting, a simple faulty pass or two and a few missed dribbling attempts doesen't hurt a players performance if he's played well for the majority of the match. Sometimes a player that is nearly invisible for the majority of the match gets Man of the Match awards simply because he was magical in one or two occations of the game by providing spectacular goals or assists. PES will probably never be able to seperate a failed pass that doesen't cause any grave effects and missplaced pass directly leading to a opposition goal. That's why it's important to make the most of every second you're in possession of the ball in BAL, too many small mistakes wipes out all the great things you do for your team.
