Players out of position question?

I recently bought Bako in my offline ML, his postions are LMF,LWF,RWF,RMF and he has an overall rating of 83, and he is a quick agile player with a good top speed when played in these positions.

But if I play him out of position say CF, he's like a different player, slower to respond, lacks strength and can't maintain his speed when sprinting, it's like his top speed stat has gone from 90 to 70, and his other stats have taken a nose dive too.

I've noticed the same with other players like Bale and other members of my squad.

So do the players individual stats go down when played out of position? in gameplan the stats remain the same but I swear the player doesn't perform as well.

It is happening again
I believe they do. You can see that his overall rating will decrease if you play him out of position. It's more of a "hidden effect" I suppose.
I know it's kinda unrealist that they should have such a drastic decrease in ability, but it stops people from doing stupid things such as playing Walcott in defensive midfield, which is the type of thing you seem to get in that other football game, when playing online.

I think one must distinguish two cases - one where a player is being played in a position not allocated to him, and the other is a player playing in a position that he is able to play in, but where hid OR drops slightly.

In the first case I don't think there's any argument. Play Drogba in defence and you'll end up with a lumbering piece of furniture which even Heskey could dribble past.

However the second scenario is more worthy of debate in my view. Villa is 82 as a SS, but drop him to LMF and his OR shoots up to 87... Does that mean his actual stats have received a hidden boost? Or does it simply mean that the abilities he has (high speed, response, dribble speed etc) tends to reflect a higjer OR in a SMF position?

I think it is the latter rather than the former. OR does not affect stats unless you are playing someone out of position (I.e. In a position they are not registered to play in).

...Having said that, why does Hazard drop by one point when moved from LMF to RMF? He is right footed afterall... Just like andre ayew drops by a couple of points when moved from LWF to RWF...

This is deep.

Players with the incisive run card will perform better when being allowed to cut in onto their strong foot. This is 1 of the few things I agree with Konami on. The modern game has evolved so wingers who can cut in and shoot are often preferred. Traditional wingers like Valencia and Jesus Navas are becoming harder to come by.

Traditional wingers that can cross the ball e.g. Beckham are practically non-existent, at least at higher levels. Try and find a winger with 90+ long pass accurracy.

As for players being played out of position, I'm not so sure. Tried Tevez at DMF on my MLO, his response and body balance of 86 made him a defensive beast, cutting out long ball after long ball, but his turns seemed to be slow and explosive power seemed to take a hit. Not so sure about that though, I've even played Ibrahimovic at DMF, but his response of 76 made him unsuitable for the role, got forward to hit long rangers but couldn't intercept a snail.

Overall though, I believe if the player has the right stats for the role he can play there competently. The most value for money defenders are actually big target men strikers; Response, Body Balance, Heading etc.

CR7, best right back, and centre back, and DMF, and striker, an..actually, just play him anywhere.

That is probably the most obvious question ever asked. Play the players where they play.

I guess it is quite obvious, but I've not played much of recent PES games but I remember back in the day with ISS Pro Evolution I used to play R.Carlos as CF and he was devastating, he would run just as fast and hit the ball just as hard as when played at LB.

Has there ever been any official clarification on how the overall rating is determined? I always thought it was just worked out from the strengths and weaknesses of the individual stats, with certain stats being more important to different postions. But my experience with the game suggests that when a player is played out position the individual stats reduce and they are not the same player.

I don't believe this is very realistic just because a winger is made to play as a striker shouldn't mean he's forgotten how to run, pass, shoot, dribble and turn.

Don't forget the attack and defence stat. Cr7 in defence will be out of position and stuff... I played a coach mode MLO game the other day where my opponent was using cr7 in defence! He wasn't effective. I won the match 3-0 and got about 4mill for my troubles...
