Poor design? Or am I stupid?

So I've reached the end of year 1 with my ML team (using the crappy players). Finished 14th, and I probably would've been dead last, were it not for me relenting and turning difficulty down to Pro.

That's all well and good… I've had bad seasons before. What DOES concern me, on the other hand, is the way club finances are addressed.

I probably don't have to tell any of you that money no longer accumulates after home games. You get your budget in one chunk, at the beginning of the year. Which is problematic when the "owner" decides to give you LESS money than can even meet the payroll. And I was NOT wasteful in year 1. I called up Shimizu and Palmieri, and made one signing, for roughly 400K, which put my team payroll at around $1.5 million. I anticipated my year 2 budget would be AT LEAST the same $2 million budget as year 1, despite my poor finish.

So, essentially, my choices are to cut my 3 best players, or start over.

:realmad:

I'm not even complaining about the low budget amount. I'm complaining because there's apparently no way to see it coming. How am I supposed to make personnel decisions without revenue info? How can the mythical "owner" possibly give me LESS than my payroll?

Am I missing something, or is this poor design?

So you are saying that you had +400k signing before the start and had 1.5M left. What is the budget after the 1st season if you pay your expenses for the next one?
I just started Ml on pro and signed some extra players costing +1.2M to me. I have 700k left. What you are saying means that I will find myself bankrupt at the end of the season, but I thought I would break even. Now makes me thinking if I should continue...

The truly sad thing is that it doesn't matter at all how much money you have at the end of the season...the "owner" simply takes it as "operating expense."

Essentially, you start every season with zero dollars, and the owner disburses it ONCE. So not only did the owner take the 200k I had left over, he gave me 1.2 million for the WHOLE YEAR, when my payroll is somewhere around 1.7 million.

But, like I said, I could be missing something. I genuinely hope I am.

Now I am pretty sure you have team management set to OFF which is a default. I put it to ON. This way it is like in pes 2011 where you control all finances. Nevertheless it is stupid what you just described. It means you have always adapt to chairman's budget outlook. This can and will break everything. I guess this mode is pretty much is unusable then. Switch team management to On, but you have to restart then.

Thank God it's just that setting, and not the whole ML that's broken. In this case I'd rather be an idiot than have a legitimate gripe.

Also, I swear in year's past that the default setting was to "on." I have to wonder why they'd change it, and I genuinely hope no one else wasted any time wondering about it.

Also, thanks.

...so does that mean if you switch the Team Management setting to 'on', you get to keep any surplus cash from one season to the next, but without that you get it taken away? I'm mid-way through my first ML season, Team Management is 'off', and I've noticed that the earnings figure doesn't increase after each match like it used to. I have a balance of £286k but a team salary of £2.7m - does this mean my best idea is to restart?

Oh yeah. Turn it on. Then you can control everything yourself.
