I think the passing is poor.
I'm playing with no assistance on, yet quite a lot of the time they don't go where I aim. I find a lot of passes (especially so called "through balls") go behind the player I'm aiming at.
I also find I have little control over the power of the pass. Sometimes they whack it when I tap the button, sometimes they tap it when I whack the button.

Try with 2 bars. I played with 0 assistance and passes were not accurate at times when passing over distance, but after setting to 2 bars it is way way nicer to play.
Its no the controller mate , I put pes2011 on to check it and the passes went were i was putting them , its this game its a joke , its easily by far the worst footy game I have ever played , I know how to play pes Iv been playin it since it was international superstar soccer so about 14 years , its that bad , it really pushing me towards FIFA , theres no fun in it Konami should sort these issues out before they release it and it isnt just the passing thats up with it , the keepers are shocking too always running out , that should be left to yourself to decide whether he should come out or not

i really dont get peoples moaning about passing/shooting this and that, this game for me this year is bang on, sounds like some people cant handle change

Im close to giving up on it mate , I usually win about 90% of games I play this years total is won 8 , drawn 9 , lost 23 and most of they losses are thru losing goals to shocking passing & keepers leaving there line when they dont have to , Im also fed up playing against Barca and Real every game , Konami should put a limit on how many times people can go the one team , its seriously putting me of ever buying it again , if Fifa wasnt so boring I would have gave up on this , this year already
passing is poor because of the ball physics. have you noticed when you pass the ball bobbles causing it to go slower and weird. it is also because the cpu can take part in aiming - the cpu decides if your gonna lay it off- i'm running with osman in a diagonal position near the center circle and i see my sb running down the wings, i press triangle and before i could hold it down add pace to my pass, the cpu decided i'll tap it so then i lose possession. Also on zero assisted it's to hard to recieve and make passes as it's not sensitive enough leading to sloppy passes

You can put your defender right in front of where someone is going to pass the ball, and konami will morph the pass and the receiver onto a different path leaving the defender doing some silly animation.
I'm watching people play ping pong passes all the way to the goal. Most of the time not even facing the direction that they are passing to, and when it happens, ALL of my defenders get sudden Alzeimers disease and start wandering around aimlessly....
But if you hold the "special controls" button down long enough, someone from konami will usually intercept the pass.
P.S. I love how people who are taking advantage of konami's whorish system think "it's so good" this year just because it's so easy and primitive...

doesn't matter...i get the same hideous control over passing as well!
3/4/5/6 star difficulty...no difference...
Through Passes are a broken!... especially L1 Thru balls!
Gone are the days of the nice ping-ay and weighted passes from PES5/6 days!
the whole FEEL of the passing system in PES12 feels off...
broken...slow...heavy...feels like FIFA11 passing!
there is no zip to the ball at all now...
Hold the pass (x) button full...the pass goes under hit to the wrong player...
Tap the pass (x) button...and the pass decides its now going to be over hit...
1-2's...
again...same as above...its Russian roulette wither its going to come off!
all because the PES seems to disregard what action is ACTUALLY taken on the X button...
aye, there is a learning curve...
but helps if the "goal posts" don't keep constantly changing!
its as though with each pass you make...the rules change!?!
never had ANY issue with the passing system in any of the PES games...till now
I am not ranked in the top 10 BEST ranked players when it comes to PES....
but i know the difference between a game that is programmed properly!
To put it into context...
Its like BF3/MW3 having issues with how far the grenade gets thrown!

PES5/6...they are the mile stones!
Had them on PC...fully modded with kit and stadiums servers!
BEST PES games...and still the best tbh!
PES 2008 should of been PES6...with
HD Graphics...
2009 onwards should of seen the addition of..
new animations...360 control...AI improvements...
Stadium editor...ML/BAL etx....
Its 2011 and PES2012...
And we are still waiting for the improved version of PES6!

Agree with basically everything there! No idea why they don't go back to the physics of an old classic game but just improve the graphics and add in a few more animations.
Passing has never been an issue with me in any pro evo or iss game. But this game is unplayable for me just because of the passing!
Thing is, 2 of my friends have the game 2 and have been playing PES for years and they think the passing is basically the same as before!
It has absolutely nothing to do with not being able do handle change. There seems to be a glitch. Maybe it hasn't happened to you yet, but rest assured, it will. It can be very frustrating. You could have a striker that is about 8m away from you, he makes a good run...you try to play him through..you aim in his direction and all of a sudden the ball goes to your winger, who is about 30m away, in the opposite direction. If more than one person is complaining about the SAME thing, then you've got to wonder. Don't get me wrong, I think this is the best PES thus far, but just a few things need fixing!
The passing is glitchy, some games more than others. Theres a randomness to how the power, and direction will effect the passes. Agreed.
I think before saying previous versions had better passing, i think the rose tinted glasses need removing. Maybe they had less glitchy systems, but they weren't better.
The passing system in pes11 made pes10's feel so restrictive.
PES12's system is a better, freer system, but it needs some polishing.

was passing it around the back yesterday, attempted a pass back to my goalie which didnt go to him but rather went in the direction of another one of my defenders, unfortunately Ronaldo was right there waiting and took the ball and raced in, circled my keeper and scored. I ended up losing 2-1..... Crap like this is what infuriates me when I play PES this year, that would have never happened in 2011.
If they could patch this game and put last years passing (forget this assisted level crap which is broken) and 2010 shooting ( I say 2010 because 11 was a bit too floaty) then this could be an amazing game but as of now shooting and passing is broken
