me and johnno played
1-1 each game
will do a review on the game later
here's my review of the newcastle performances;
Newcastle started started the first game in a cautious manner, and perhaps their inability to realise that sitting back too much too early and soaking up pressure from the Italians would inevitably lead to their class shining through was their downfall. Inter broke the deadlock in the first half with a goal their attacking play warranted.
In their second encounter however, Newcastle had learnt from their previous mistakes, and instead of sitting back, they took the game to their opponents, creating a few good openings in the first 15 minutes. However, with that many men thrown forward, the two man defence of the tynesiders was looking lonenly, and a break completely against the run of play brought with it another first half goal for inter, this time in the second game.
However, in both instances after conceding first, Newcastle switched up a gear and took the game to their opponents. They defended admirably even with only two men as defenders, and their three pronged attack of dyer, owen and Martins have enough pace to worry any team in this competition, and their counter attacking was intuitive if for the most part ineffective against an extremely resilient Inter defence.
Both games were exceptionally tight encounters, with both sets of defenders limiting the space that the frontmen had to play with, thus making chances a premium.
All in all; even though on paper this looked like an easy win for Inter against undoubtedly the weakest side in the group, but the Englishmen have shown they are going to be far from a pushover in this tournament.
