The PS2 version has had very few upgrades, but my guess would be there will still be a lot of players as not everyone can afford a next-gen console.

Having done alot of saving over summer, money is not really an issue for me. However I cannot justify paying £400 for a PS3 especially when the one "ground-breaking" game is delayed until April 2008 or £250 for a console that the seller insists you contact the manufacturer when it stops working. Not to mention the fact that the developers have still to realise the 'next-gen' potential of these consoles. And no I'm not talking about graphics.

Besides I need a decent TV so to answer the question I'm getting the PS2 version... maybe the PC one as well. Maybe I should have just said that?

If you have got a half decent PC....just get the PC version...it is the exact same game as the 360 and PS3 versions........and u can use playstation gamepads for it if u have USB converter (costs about £5).

Yep I usually get the PC version solely to play online, whereas the ps2 version is for playing mates and such.

Or....

Providing you are sure you are getting good performance of PES2008 on your PC (easily checked by playing demo)...You can not buy the PS2 version.....and invest in a bit of TV-out cabling to take the audiovisual signals from your graphics card and sound card on your PC, to the TV upon which you are likley to sit and play your mates at ProEv on.

Voila...Next Gen PES, on yer big Widescreen TV........(obvioulsy, this is only going to be feasible if ur PC and TV is in the same room)

No, maybe his PC is crap and the PS2 game is not laggy and can easily be played online as well?

If his PC is crap.......(and it would have to be really crap not to run PES...it aint the most demanding of PC games out there)..........then he wouldnt be buying PES for the PC at all would he..

And the PS2 version of PES 2008 is old gen pants.......everyone knows that.

Thanks for the suggestion MatTheCat, I might just consider doing that. The only reason why I'm happy to buy 2 versions is... well it's PES isn't it! One of the few games where you truly get your money's worth.

My PC is quite capable of running it but probably not at the highest graphical settings. Besides if I really gave a toss about the game's look I would have a next gen console already.

Anyway let's get back on topic and find out how many people are actually going to buy the PS2 version. I'm sure there are plenty, perhaps more than the PS3 and 360 owners combined...

I am thinking of upgrading to the new PES (PS2) but I was so disappointed with PES6 it left me a little unsure. I'm still playing and enjoying PES5 but want to play with better kit templates, etc and have a bit of a new challenge.

I am also hoping there will be a way to continue to transfer the logo's etc so that the perfect ones that exist on PES5/6 OF's will be transferable to PES2008. I don't want to try to do them all over again.

I will probably wait to see other peoples reactions first, before I decide to go out and get it or not.

Old Gen Rocks!

Not updating to a PS3 simply for PES and not convinced about PS3 support at the moment. There are some good games, but not many and I haven't got a HD TV, so don't see the point. If it came down to £350, I'd probably give in and buy it! I'm still not convinced that with this enhanced XBox 360 engine from last year, that this years rewrite will be 'complete' and that there will be tweaks needed that will make 2009 a better game BY FAR! The diving option online sounds a bit controversial, for example.. ..

Personally, not sure what was wrong with PES6 (I think it's easily the most complete version to date). There were annoying things - but PS2 PES 2008 with these changes would probably play a better game than the 'experimental' 'first draft' PS3 version for my money..! :shocking:

So count this poverty stricken person in the old school! ;)
