PS3 : Offline button delay / slow responsiveness

I have been playing PS3 PES2010 for 3 weeks now. I am struggling with the button delay playing offline with passing/clearing/shooting. I played with Arsenal mostly.

1) when my player has possession, he would take 2 steps before passing. Surely a professional player can pass with his weaker foot when being pressed?

2) difficult to pull off one time pass/shoot. It's like the game sometimes fail to register my button press. Is the window to press X to pass before the ball comes to the feet much smaller than previous PES?

3) I started playing with unassisted controller setting. If the pass is really short, I struggle to change cursor fast enough to stop the AI doing 1-time pass for me. I can see the cursor switched by the time the player receives the ball, but AI has already decided to do 1-time pass for me. I started winning because I don't lose the ball, but I feel like I am cheating.

I keep seeing people saying the passing in PES is spot on, but to me, it feels very sluggish and out of my control. Most of the time, I don't have sprint on, so it's not like the ball is away from my feet.

Any advice/suggestions?
Do you always press R2 when you are receiving the ball?
Do you use unassisted or assisted controller setting? (I hate it when AI chooses the wrong man to chase the ball)

I played the Winning Eleven demo and to be honest, it doesn't feel that much different.

But more importantly, I am not going to spend more money buying the same game. If Konami decides to short change non-Japanese players out there by publishing a better game in Japan, the last thing I want to do is to give them more of my hard earned money.
