Dude I don't know if you ever played a MLB video game
But when you are going to substitute the pitcher you actually got to warm up his replacement Cus if you don't his overall rating declines till popertly limber.. If you warm him up for too long and not get him on the game after he reaches his topform his overall declines due to extra fatigue .. I think this would add lots of realism also show when the players exchange jerseys after the game .

That sounds ridiculous. Maybe works in MLB but would anyone actually want to stop their PES match and warm up every sub they use?

I'm sure warming up the players could be done with some sort of advanced control combo. Before the match starts (ie in the tactics selection) you'd select a group of players which you can send out of the dugout to warm up whenever you input the controls. It could even happen automatically in the second half when players on the pitch start to get tired / get injured.
