Quick question...

How do you renew the contracts of players in your squad? I've had a look around but I can't actually see an option on any screen for this. And also, duration of contract like 1/1 means he's on year 1 of a 1 year contract right?

Yes. You will be able to renew contracts only when the current one is about to expire. Players will decide if to put their contract on hold (in case you put them on the transfer list), either way they'll ask you to renew their contract.

It happens in January, if a player has a low loyalty level or is on the transfer list, they will probably put talks on hold and refuse to sign a new one. If you do nothing, then the cpu will renew them for you. You only really need to do anything if you want to refuse players a contract, or if you want to offer less money or shorter/longer contracts.

Are you sure they are gonna renew,I av my three best players wanting more and they put their contract on hold in janaury.I don't wanna lose em but don't knw wht 2 do whn it gets 2 d end of the season.I sure hope they don't leave?

they wont renew, if a player puts contract on hold, 99.9% of the time they will leave the team, either as a free agent or to another team, i only put useless players on transfer list.

players i can still manage, who have a year to go on their contract, i wait till they renew, then put them on the list so at least when they leave i will get money from the team buying them,
if nobody buys them till their in their last year i take them off the list if they are still useful, else i release and buy better players or just let them leave...
