Rise of the Catenaccio!

Was so bored so i decided to wipe my team and tactics and imply new ones, decided to bring back the Catenaccio and go with a typical zona mista formation not just that but my team is restricted to Italians only(except for Milito, made an expection for him because he have an Italian passport ):

Team Style:

Player Support - Defensive
Support Range - Medium
Position Switch - Never
Attacking Style - Medium
Pressing - Tight
Defensive Line - Standard


As usual the sweeper is there to recover balls, cover the other 2cbs, double mark and ofc long balls and counter attack.

In the defensive phase this transforms to a 5-3-2 as Pepe operates as a RWB, in the attacking phase it's kinda 4-3-3 because Miccoli is a wide SS and Pepe joins from the other flank as well as Abate and Totti so you have many options from both the middle and both wings, with a towering striker like Luca Toni(got him on bench) you can enjoy long balls as well. i also have Ricardo Montolivo who sometimes i put him there instead of Candreva and keep cutting back with wings and pass back and bomb with Montolivo-Motta-Totti.

Something that really annoyed me is that my defensive midfielder is always roaming forward so i pulled Motta back a bit and switched his position to CB this way he is in the position of a DM and he is not roaming forward.

So is this for MLO then?

One problem is that you have quite a few ageing players. By that formation, you seem to be a bit vulnerable on your right flank. Now, I don't know a lot about Pepe, but from what I've seen, he doesn't seem to be the type of player to cover the defence.

You're also lacking a bit of pace at the back. I didn't know Abate could play on the left side, what is his rating there? I think a better choice for the left wing back position would have been Criscito (who can also play CB).

EDIT: You should think about trying to get Quagliarella and Iaquinta, both very useful players.

Pepe is ok he is fast and got high stamina and teamwork, he is like he is IRL not that skilled but he is hard working enough and he tracks back a lot, i don't see much problem with an aging squad considering MLO has no development, and no Abate does not play on the left side but the only disadvantage you get is that he is right footed and wont be that good at crosses but other than that he is good and explosively fast, the reason i am playing him is that i simply cannot find any good italian full backs around i tried Santon, Criscito, Mesto and Marco Rossi but non of them is what i want.

As i said it's not complete so i might drop out couple of players and buy others, mainly i wanted to drop Milito and bring in Quagliarella to rotate with Miccoli who can also play on the win and Pazzini who would fit perfectly in that system.

Criscito is awesome for me in my offline ML, but that's because he develops well. He's great at getting forward, AND defensively sound too. I scored a great team goal with him once, I made a few neat passes then suddenly one of my players is through on goal..... it's blood Criscito. He finishes with a nice low placed shot from the edge of the box. I should have saved it really. I love a good team goal.

Anyway, I digress. Zambrotta is a good full back. Can play either side.

In the early 80s I think.... not entirely sure though.

Well as i said Zambrotta is a bit expensive for me(7m?) atm but i will surely consider getting him later.

So far my results with this ofc i dropped shit loads of rating on the way to set this up however i was 420 when i started playing after setting the formation:

UCL yesterday 5 games 2 wins and 3 draws
D2 cup now 6 games 5 wins and 1 loss and currently awaiting the round of 16

Sold Milito, Palladino and Toni and brought in Iaquinta, Quagliarella and Pazzini(working 10x better than Milito in this formation).

Btw do you know a site where i can create a formation with arrows etc... like Zonal Marking?

Palladino is quite good IMO. BTW, Iaquinta is better as a striker, than in his default SS position.

Cassano
Fogia
Bonucci
Mascara (I think he's Italian)

Yea already scored 4 goals in 3 games with Iaquinta he is the perfect CF that fits me for long balls .

Cassano - was thinking of him but i took Totti instead, Foggia? Pasquale Foggia you mean? he is good but where can he fit? Bonucci if he is good i can get him instead of Cannavaro, and yea Mascara is Italian but i already have Pazzini,Iaquinta,Lucarelli for the CF and Miccoli\Quagliarella for SS and i think they are better than him, I was also thinking of Gamberini for 6m is he worth it?

That site has no arrows also the player shirts are pretty big for the pitch so i can't position them in a good way, something like that is much better:

I used to pick Juve quite a bit when I played online (I don't anymore, get too pissed off ). I often used to start with Quaggers as a striker, with Del Piero as an SS. Iaquinta was usually brought on as a sub. I started with him sometimes though, but he always scores for me.

Foggia can play LM, RM and I think he can also play AM and SS. He's really good on PES. Probably as good as Pepe, if not better.

Might give Foggia a try but his stamina and teamwork are too low for that role but i will try him anyway.
