Scripting

Scripting to me is the biggest problem in PES. It reaches ridiculous mind-numbing levels. I quit PES 2011 because of the scripting. If I were to pick one thing to remove it would be scripting because PES 2011 doesn't feel as satisfying because I know it's all scripted. It just makes the game go from great to fucking shit.

Konami, get rid of the scripting.(Although I'm pretty sure they won't read this)

I know there's been a certain amount of scripting in all PES games but I have to agree that the scripting in PES 2011 is by far the worse!!

I noticed that after winning 4 or 5 games in a row on Masters League I always have a game where my players have no energy and make atrocious AI mistakes.

I had the perfect example at the weekend: I'd just picked up 10 points from the last 4 games and beaten Liverpool 4-1 and then I came up against Bolton. Right from the first whistle my players were soo slow and I went behind to an own goal (suspicious). I got really angry and was determined to get an equaliser but just couldn't get any sort of rythm going. The worse thing was I knew Bolton were going to make it 2-0! There was a period where I couldn't get anywhere near them and as they came forward my defence parted like the red sea and they scored a screamer from 25 yards out!

I felt like smashing my controller up and snapping the PES CD in half!!! I just find there are certain games in PES 2011 where the computer has already decided what's going to happen. No matter how well you play your defence will go missing and gift the opposition a goal. And then all your players suddenly lose all their energy so you can't get back into the game! It drives me mad!!!

I agree with you , but in my opinion , what happened to your team might be due to fatigue of the players , you said that you have won 4 games in a row , that means most of your team are the same players that have played those matches , and that means they were tired and you had to give some of them a rest for one or 2 matches , and it happens in real football . Thank you .

You must not play ML too much cause that is very real. I've had a run to the champs league with a pimped up Arsenal ended by Marseille. Basically first leg I won 2-1 and second leg my players just wouldn't score no matter what and I gave Van Persie an open goal but he missed. 85th minute and as always they got a goal, because Vermaelen bumped into Pique and left the loose ball for their striker to get the goal. Complete and utter shite.

Tbf that match sounds perfectly realistic.

The scripting has gone to stupid levels now. It's ridiculous, I have has so many games where I have had the strongest players bullied of everything, the quickest players just feeling so sluggish, players like Fellaini losing out to every 50-50 header. There is a particular passage of play that happens against me in scripted games. They will have a weak shot that is going nowhere, but my keeper will make a complete hash of it and put it out for a corner, which they score from 100% of the time.

Scripting of any matches really has to be removed from the next game.

I know that feeling! I've lost count of the amount of times I've tried to clear a ball from the area, only for my AI controlled defender to run straight in front of me and deflect the ball straight to the striker for an easy tap-in.

I wouldn't mind if it happened once or twice a season but it happens every 4 or 5 games in PES 2011.

From what I'm hearing it sounds like the AI is a lot smarter in PES 2012 though :)

Anyone that has played master league offline on top player knows that rubberband/scripted AI happens, its konami's way of creating dramatic moments and the flow of a match. I have to agree the scripting is much more obvious in PES 2011 than any other PES game.

The game even uses cursor change as a balancing act to limit what you can do and help the AI.

Scripting DOES NOT decide the game, but its simply there to make the game more challenging, the problem is it can be overdone and glaringly obvious. I accept it as part of the game until the AI improves but at times it can be insulting.

Konami uses scripting as the A.I is poor and it is far easier to cripple your player than code decent A.I, the classic example is cut backs , instead of creating A.I to handle cut backs when your player tries a cut back they will kick the ball out of play.

Scripting cheats
  1. The body balance of your strong players turn to crap. Players like Heski get pushed off the ball by Iniesta.
  2. Rebounds auto target the CPU players in your goal area. If the CPU shoots on goal and there is a goalie nearby then the rebound will go to the CPU player.
  3. Rebounds auto target the CPU players in the CPU goal area. If your shoot on goal and have 3 attackers in the box and 1 CPU player, the ball will either go to the CPU player or the goalie will do a punch that send the ball a mile in the air and your players will freeze.
  4. The ball comes off the CPU goalie and rebounds toward your attacker, your attacker will freeze on the spot and you cannot move them.
  5. Defenders not jumping when the CPU player is behind them so they get a head on goal.
  6. Headers auto targeting CPU player no matter what direction you press.
  7. CPU can do slide tackle passes while you can't do anything with a slide tackle.
  8. You take the ball of the CPU player who then runs into you or kicks you and they get the freekick.
  9. The ball rebounds in midfield and your players run away from the ball.
  10. CPU players have 0 second delays to rebounds while your players just freeze on the spot or act like headless chickens and run away from the rebound.
  11. As soon as one of your players is offside any rebound will go to them.
  12. Players running offside and then standing there.
  13. The CPU can tackle you by just running into your back and your player will freeze and the loose ball will go towards the CPU player. If you run into the CPU player you will give away a foul.
  14. When the CPU goes 1-0 down the CPU will turn off the ref for any fouls by the CPU but anything you do will be given.

The same thing will happen when you are on-line either against a division 5 player or Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The problem is you are no longer playing against the other team but against the ball physics and the ref. They should have renamed it Magnet Ball 2011.

When the scripting kicks in, the AI always reacts the instant you press a button, while your players take virtual ages to do whatever you've told them to do. For instance, the AI will pull a feint or dummy within a microsecond of pressing the tackle button, but your player will not actually move to tackle until said feint animation has been initiated, at which point it's too late to be effective, and to top it off, your player is locked in the tackle/recovery animation sequence for roughly 3.74 years, meaning they can't even scramble to get back into position or try to pressure again. Similarly, the AI will throw out a foot to block a pass/shot sometimes even before the power gauge appears after pressing a button, let alone the actual passing animation, meaning your player is destined to pass straight into them, as there is rarely enough time to cancel, even if you see it coming.

Also, Konami, I am not kidding about this: sort out and implement the backpass rule. In the potential title decider yesterday, Real Madrid had outright backpasses picked up by their keeper FIVE times with nothing called. It seems as though a sliding, desperation backpass when under pressure is legal to pick up fir the AI, but after I scored in the 84th, Benzema waltzed through my entire team from the kickoff, took an easy shot which my keeper, naturally, spilled, and when my defender actually got to it, rather than clearing it instantly as I told him to, he hesitated, allowing Benzema to pressure him, causing the ball to hit Benzema's arm, then back to my defender's feet, who tripped over it, causing it to roll back towards my keeper, who fell down as though he intended to smother it, but instead pulled his arms away, intentionally avoiding it, letting it roll by him towards the goal, at which point Benzema walked around him and put it in with no further challenge from any of the five players then in my 18-yd box.

F*ck scripting.

I find it more alarming that Heskey is on the same pitch as Iniesta...

I totally agree that scripting is an incredibly frustrating game mechanic and can ruin the fun of the game especially at times when it feels like it's just pointless playing the match, cos you know you are meant to lose the game.
That said I will ask this, how else do we really expect them to code a football game? FIFA also has tonnes of very obvious scripting, especially FIFA 11, so in that regard both major football titles have the same methods for creating 'dramatic moments' and a long term challenge to the game.
Basically, if their was no scripting, every player would be able to find a system that works and stick with it, and the game would never be able to challenge them with it's A.I, because you the player has technically already beaten the game by finding the exploits that exist in every PES/FIFA and using them to your advantage.
At least with scripting the game remains a challenge in the long term even if it's frustrating in the short term. It makes that first ML season in div2 with the defaults a difficult one, the CPU makes sure you lose to teams way above your level, and for that, I understand why scripting is present, it's simply necessary.
Just my 2 cents, sorry for the long post!

Just on equestion about scripting. Does it happen in on-line games too?

This is because once (this happens to me often, I am just gonna give this example) when I had almost reached 650 points in quick matches on-line, someone in Div 5 with points of only 400 came.

My God, what happened? He didn't even know how to play. It was on sided game. I hit the bar 5-7 times, missed on open goals, the ball just wasn't going in the net.
At 89th minute, he approached by half for the first time. Got a corner kick, and scored a goal.:shocking:

I was so mad that I didn't play football for a week.

So, Does scripting happen in on-line games too?
