Shielding the ball out of bounds

I don't think I've ever seen this implemented in a game before. It would be very good if you could give us a the ability to shield a stray pass by the opponent out of bounds without touching the ball. Maybe if you push both triggers, the player will just shield and not touch the ball. This would be very helpful because there are quite a few instances where the ball is going out but I don't want to touch it, but my opponent is also chasing it and if I don't get to it, he will. However, with this command, we'd be able to shield the ball out of touch for a throw in or goal kick like in real life.

I also asked for this to be implemented. Big part of football I mean you see it so often every match I dunno why Konami never made an attempt to feature it. Fifa 09 has it though and it looks really neat. You don't need to assign any buttons just have it done automatically like in Fifa.

Yeah, I want it in as well. It would be so useful. Like I said, just make it simple like pressing both bumpers or triggers.

that's a good idea and would be great if implemented right but i wouldn't want it to be automatic you should be able to shield the ball but it should take skill and also depend on the players' abilities.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to be automatic. However, I think any player would be able to shield the ball while it's going out of touch rather handidly. Now, if more than one opposing player was coming at him, and from a different angle, that could be a situation where the player isn't successfully able to guide the ball out of bounds in time.

It doesn't involve any skill in real life. Also doesn't involve any skill to hold a button down to shield. It would be so trivial to just hold a button to perform such a simple and frequent task. Just my opinion but I'd be real happy if it was included automatic or not.

Yeah, but what if you don't want it to go out of touch, and want to play it instead? Giving someone the option shouldn't be too bad.

You sort of can already using RT if you're positioned correctly between the ball and your opponent. Would be great for it to be consistently implementable.

Other issues (related to touch line problems) is why, when defending and going shoulder to shoulder with an opponent, if my player's foot barely touches the ball, it always goes hurtling out of play to the computer's advantage, even 30 yards from the touch line. It's like the lines have a ball magnet when my guys are nearby.

Also, when my player intercepts a pass from the opposition, if the ball is trapped by my player AFTER it has crossed the line, the throw/kick is given to my opponent.

As an addendum to this thought I'd like to see players pushing (shoulder to shoulder, maybe a little arm too) for 50-50 balls where both players are running the same direction. In 2009, if one guy is dribbling and the defender can run even with him you'll see it, but not on 50-50 balls.

I don't know if there's a button you could map to this. I'd hope a player with higher strength or balance ratings wouldn't always win and there would be different variations.

Maybe things would play out differently depending on the scenario. Say a stronger player might win the ball *almost* every time if they can get their body a little inside the other player, a good amount of the time if they are even, and maybe would risk fouling more if they let the other player get inside of them. Possibly a much shorter player could beat a stronger defender for the ball due to lower center of gravity. It shouldn't always play out the same if you have the same two players going after the ball is what I'm saying.

This scenario doesn't happen all that often in the game, but it would still add to the realism. Give a slower player a chance to win the ball over a faster player so it's not just a foot race. After all, that's a tactic I use quite often in real life (yeah, I'm a slow center back) to great effectiveness.

This idea deserves it's own thread. I like it.
