I tried reducing button threshold on my PC
that didn't seem to help

im guessing you're playing the game on a pc?

For shotting try just a quick tap on the button, as for crossing dont keep pressed the button of the direction you are attempting to cross to. face the direction, release directional button and adjust crossing strenght. if you keep the direction button pressed the cross will almost always(i dare to say always) over powered. thats how i do it on ps3 anyway

I am playing on the PC with PS3 controllers
I am looking to get rid of my PS3 and going to get a Wii
at least that way, I will get some exercise done lol

Fuck the exercise timbone;), play PES.

I only play on 360, can give you plenty of advice for that but not sure how similar the PC game is?

Some tips for shooting...

- Power bar is dependent on the situation, eg if the ball is close to the body you will need to generate more power.

- body position is crucial, you can place a shot just by angling your player and approaching the ball a certain way without using any of the modifier buttons

- RT placed shot is good for certain situations.

- You can also do a shot with more precision and a slower trajectory if you hold the close control button(RT) during and after your shot, this is slightly different to the RT placed shot. Holding RT in this way slows your players momentum and allows you to be more precise with a shot, I find using this method allows me to pick an angle as the ball is under close control thus allowing a slower and more placed trajectory if that makes sense.

As for crossing I only use manual cross, but for normal crossing be light on the analog and use RT for a lofted cross. The pace on the cross mostly depends on your players momentum when striking the ball.

No worries mate, konami strived for realism with the shooting although it has its dodgy moments.
