Struggling To Score and Create Scoring Chances....

I have been playing pes for a long time and this year in exhibition games I am struggling to win and score. I have been playing against Liverpool and Man City because I am a Man U fan, it seems as though Man City score some nice goals from any and everywhere, dzeko, aguro are unstoppable. I dont use Man United or good teams I like using small time teams like swansea, aston villa, everton just to see if I can play the game before I start ML.

Any goal I have scored has come from an own goal, when I shoot the cpu out of no where comes and blocks the shots, i play counter attack and the cpu always catches up with me. My question is, is there a formation or strategy that works for you.

I possess like theres no tomorrow but at some point I would like to score also. I am playing on professional as it keeps me motivated to play better.

Share your thoughts. Thanks

I always used to struggle scoring goals also. The problem is that the shooting system is "strange" to say the least this year. It goes off individuals stats and body positioning more than anything. I always play a counter game as well. I find that not rushing and being patient helps a lot. I always used to try and rush play(with no success). Shooting is a bit of a lottery, I try to stick with the same team and get to know my players strengths, I stepped down for a while from pro because of this. Ive had a few rants on here with the shooting system!

Learn to use the off the ball player controls to make players move around for you. When you get the hang of it, creating chances and scoring will be much easier than without it. Also learn to use the link feints, and set ones you can use effectively. Again when you learn to use these beating a man to make a shot or get space for a pass will be easier.

You can learn all the new stuff that pes 12 has to offer but your going to find it very difficult to beat the CPU.:realmad: The game is way too unbalanced and scripted, there's no room for a realistic, true outcome.

The second I score the cpu will "decide" that they will score aswell. It's out and out CHEATING.

Just play online dude. Its about as fair as it gets...:crymore:

Excuse my briefness, but one thing the CPU seems to fail at is intercepting through balls. Get a striker with a decent speed and go for the through balls. You'll be amazed how many 1on1's opportunities you'll create.

True, your timing must be right though. As for me I am still struggling with 1 vs 1's. Luckily corner kicks, crosses and shots from outside the penalty area brings me loads of goals. One other way is to have either a very strong supporting striker or attacking midfielder. Run around in the penalty box to attrack defenders-you'll find more often then not your cf or other players are free to pass to. I love this game appart from the scripting where i loose games every single season to rock bottom teams.

Very nice tip!
What do you think it is more powerful against AI: through balls or lobbed passes?

SweetMusicMan, I will have to disagree. Lobbed passes are good but in order to succeed, you not only need a fast striker, but a massive one, with good responsiveness too. He needs to get to the ball first, and in order to do that he needs to get rid of the defender on his back, which is not an easy fight. Such strikers are usually expensive.

Low through balls are more about luck, for the ball to get through to your striker, but once it reaches him speed is all you need in order to score. There's no defender on your back to fight, the ball is already yours and you're almost facing the keeper already. Cheap, but fast strikers like Miccoli or Barreto will do!

I think lobbed passes because the importance of timeing is not as relevant as in through passes if you have a quick and physically strong cf.
Probably not because in this game, the CPU control where the lobbed passes go and every time you do a lobbed pass, regardless of how much power you put, it'll be soft and floaty so the defender can catch up easily and intercept even if you use supercancel wheras through balls are to chase so its easier for a fast CF to catch up.

And Griciu, response is key but if you find anyone with Fox in the box thats a bonus. Or is it Goal Poacher?

Through balls are more affective if you play another pass before hitting the through ball once you have made the receiving player make the run, this changes the angle of the pass making your player more likely to get onto the end of it.

If you just make the run then hit the through ball, a defender more often than not will intercept it. That might be just on Superstar level though.

I tried this but when the player I pass it to does a first time through ball, he just rolls it 1 meter away from him, even if I put full bar

Here it goes my contribution to this topic.

First of all, I am still learning and it seems that this year, PES 2012 has a steep learning curve. So don’t give up and have a lot of patient…

Second, I play on Professional level. I don’t know whether my tips work on higher levels.

At least for me, my problem was to beat weaker teams. I was struggling even when I picked Barcelona against, let’s say, River Plate (I have nothing against River Plate, but in the game their players are much weaker than others from “big teams” such as Barcelona, for instance). There was a day that I won 2-1, and I had two more players (River had 2 red cards). I, with Barcelona, had to struggle to beat a weaker team that did not have 2 players!!! Well, I thought to myself, “or I improve, or I will stop playing”. It was really frustrating. Then I started to practice and get some tips in the forums. After a while I was able to beat weaker teams at ease. After this long introduction, here my tips.

1) “Try playing with a high line on possession game with offside trap set to ON” (by Abu97: see this thread). This is a very important tip. The other team will not have many chances, and you will stay longer in their field with more chances. When COM takes the ball, try to keep one of you players in front of the opponent who carries the ball to make long passes more difficult. Don’t control the last man, or there is the risk of the offside trap fails because of you!

2) Master the first touch. Here an introductory video on YouTube. This is also very important because sometimes your CF or SS are deep in the box surrounded by defenders. When he receives the ball, he can also, using the first touch, escape from the defenders and be in position for a good shot. Very useful to escape from man marking.

3) Learn “the Bergkamp Flick”. Tutorial video. For the same reason above, this dribble can put your player in 1-on-1 situations with the keeper. Besides, it is really cool. ;)

4) Through ball. Read the posts of this topic. Griciu, Abu97, Lee and others have given very good tips.

5) Learn how to win headers. This is very important to have the control of the game. Tutorial video.

6) Don’t let the “momentum” in the COM’s hands. There are some critical moments in the game, that the “momentum” is clearly for the COM. Its players seem to be faster, with precise passes and shoots. Because of that, a weaker team can play like Barcelona and they will score! I have identified at least four critical periods when the momentum goes to COM and it is more dangerous: a) beginning of the game, b) end of each half and c) after you score. So, if you have just scored for example, be careful. Don’t expose yourself too much trying to tackle or get the ball. Be patient and cover all spaces. As soon as you get the possession, spend some time passing the ball. Yes, just wait a little. After some “10 minutes” (in the game), the momentum goes back to you and COM will not have the “God mode”. The same in the end of each half. The same if you realize you are missing easy passes or your players are “strangely weak”.

7) Learn how to shoot. Read this topic.
If you don’t know how to shoot, you will miss many important opportunities.

Only with those tips and a bit of practice, you will be able to beat weaker teams comfortably. Stronger teams are different, but in certain way, easier because they often don’t “park the bus” (this should be another thread…) :)

Of course, learning some dribbles (and they are very effective if done with the correct timing) will help you to create more opportunities and enjoy more the game.

Changing formations and tactics, also.

Well, I hope you enjoyed the tips. Have a good game!

I've scored all kind of goals in PES 2012, and I can tell you it's extremely rewarding. :)
The only tip I can give you (taking in account you seem to be a PES experienced player) is: train 2012 a lot!!! You won't regret it.

I had to learn the hard way: my first ML season with Newcastle was a disaster. But after 20 games, I learned how to defend and how to attack against the AI. The next season, without any great names in the squad (I only bought Strootman and Nazareno), I finished 5th in the league.

I play with:

- Jenkey's Gameplay Patch v4.31, and I don't remove AI Cheating, as I don't feel there's any cheat at all
(also I don't use v5.0, as I feel the AI becomes too easy to beat

- PESEDIT Patch 2012 v2.5

- Always in SUPERSTAR level.

Try heading into Training mode to practice your skills. Always worked for me, after years of playing PES. :)
