I know this topic seems like a broken record but that last post really sounded desperate.
From WE 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 to WE9: When a defender tackles a forward to gain possession of the ball, the first player to touch the ball gets to make the first dribble, while the losing side will always unnaturally slip off of the other like a slippery body slam in a mud wrestling match. The only way to stop the forward with the same defender is to slide and commit a foul. Now in WE9 the realistic "Body impact" is implemented and you can no longer have two players running as fast as they can and simply slip off each other with the faster one claiming possession. If you and your opponent are running towards the ball then expect a collision. The foul will be on your ass if it wasn’t fast enough to get to the ball first.
Solution: Don’t hold down R1 and tap it consecutively instead for a better reaction. Running into the ball requires you to predict your opponent's next dribbling direction. If you estimate the ball to be a little further away from you to simply run into it, slide and kick it away. If you estimate the ball to be unreachable then you still have some options.
1) If you miss the ball, don't miss the foot: 0 or X (To add injury, make sure you're running).
2) Whenever you need to change direction press R1 & R2 to cancel your current direction. Release R2 to start running again
3) Running with R1, Approach opponent from behind and then next to him, hold R2 with R1 for a lock on the forward and use your player's body for blocking the forward's reach to the ball. Sounds familiar? That's because this is how the real game is played!
WE9 simplifiers:
Change player cursor to Manual. Whenever there is running to be done press [] and let the closest player to your opponent run towards the ball. Since its all running there isn’t much else you can do. Instead you can use the player you control to block another player who could be positioned to receive a pass. The two situations that require changing players with L1 are when:
1) The teammate auto-pressing faces a situation that requires a fast reaction like a tackle, slide, body block or a super cancel. If you leave him running on square he will probably commit a foul unless your opponent isn’t a good dribbler, or he will keep running away from your target
2) An opponent passes the ball
Also try playing with a camera one zoom closer than the default, which was the default camera a couple of WEs’ ago. It helped me with the individual skills. Once you get that out of the way, you will find time gaps between dribbles that give you an opportunity to look for sprinting players on the radar. Sounds hard? That’s because this is the football player’s view. There’s always the football coach’s view if you can’t handle the speed.
