Tackling, Am I Doing It Wrong?!

All time PES fanboy since number 1 and I have to say this is the most worried I've ever been that they may have wrecked the game.

First thing to mention is that I'm playing on Top Player difficulty. The thing most confusing to me is the tackling. I understand that they've changed it, however I can't get it to work? Holding 'A' will make you track the player, although if you hold it the opposition will always get round you, so that isn't the right way. Apparently now you are meant to push away when you want to track and towards the player when you want to make a tackle, however this rarely seems to do a tackle and instead your player just seems to walk past the attacker and let him through? I'm aware you have to time it right, I do wait until the attacker has shown me too much of the ball but my player doesn't seem to try and make a tackle when I push forward? If anyone can maybe give a bit of advice I'd be grateful as this is really ruining the game for me.

I'll not start on the ridiculous panning camera when on goal or the inability to run with the ball or not being able to hold a player off or the inability to perform first time passes/shots, I'll save those for another thread! :)

The methods you describe are correct as far as the original system is concerned. The problem is that, after complains about too frequent fouls in the demo which featured it, Konami chose to completely remove that feature and from my perspective, destroy defensive and physical play.

My recommendation would be to treat the defence in PES 2011 as you would the 2010 one as they are very similar. Something that works really well for me is to cover space with a midfielder to cut down on the passing options and then call an AI team mate to press the opponent which is something the AI does well (to an extent).

Alternatively and this is what I'm doing, you could get a mod to add extra teams to the demo and play that instead. I recommend it. Once you familiarise yourself with the LS+X defence system you find you can do all sorts of things with it. It's quite remarkable actually.

edit: Not being able to hold a player off that you mention is another victim of removing the LS+X system. You could keep ball possession quite nicely in the demo, if you controlled a strong player and manoeuvred him well.

It was strange one by KONAMI to change the tackling from the demo. I blame the stupid people who just wanted to run into players with pressure button and win a tackle. They had it right in the demo and it took practice to get your challenge in without giving a foul every 5 seconds. Now they have gone to far the other way and combine this with the cursor problems and you one big hugh problem at the back. Fucking complainers who wanted instant tackles without skill have really pissed me off.

was now about to ask this same question...

but..clearly there HAS TO BE a way to actually stick your foot out and tackle

last night i played a dude online, and this guy had the tackling thing down....
some times he would jockey/shoulder-to-shoulder, other times he would straight up TACKLE me (stick foot out)...

so the question is, how do you stick your foot out and tackle?
whenever you want you?

i find that when i tap x, the defender does nothing but start to chase the attacker...if i hold the x a little longer, he chases for longer, but doesn't actually tackle with his feet

fwiw, i use the d-pad to control my players (not the LS)
