Team Strength Level

Does anyone know how the team strength level actually works? I've read stuff on forums but none seem to match my observations.

I been experimenting with different player combinations and it seems to be a combination of costs and team strength, but the actual level seems to vary depending on what players I select (i.e. with some players the division 2/3 threshold is lower than with other players). I tried different manager combinations but that didn't seem to change anything.

So, for me, my maximum for level 2 (before it pushes me up to 3) is around 1350 team strength, with about 415 team costs. But if I pick a different combination of players, I'll be lvl 3 at lower strength and cost levels. That's a team of mostly 80-81 players with a couple of 75-77ers and a couple 83-86.

But then I've come up against a few lvl 2 teams loaded with 83+ players, with a really strong bench, and bloody Ronaldo up front. It must have been 1400+ strength and 500-550 costs, at least. It makes no sense.

Anyone got any ideas, because I'm stumped?

Well I can only speak for myself my team strength hovers around 95-97. I do a 3-5-2 and besides 3 players (Vidal Ronaldo and Costa) my guys are high 70's low 80's but all fully linked and linked to the manager from the get-go which is key.

Interesting thing for my LMF I usuallu use Maurice Bellay who is an overall 74 in that position. However I also have Danny who is a 78 in that position. However if I were to start Danny my team strength would be two lower than had I used Bellay.

Long story short having the players being linked from the get-go, and actually winning seems to be the two most important factors.

StringerBell I think you're kind of mixing Team Spirit and Team Strength.
Team Spirit depends on the links with manager. The OP is wondering about Team Strength Level, Lvl1 - Lvl 5. The thing you see on your matchmaking screen.

:eek:hmy: My mistake! OK I think thats quite simple then. I believe its an overall average of all your players. So if you've kept a bunch of 60's 70's players that should bring the number down. I only have about 25-28 guys on my squad lowest being a 75 so my team strength is a 4.

Thanks for the reply fellas. Yeah, I first assumed it would be simple as combined overall ratings but that doesn't seem to be the case. I've come up against some lvl 2 teams with Robben, Aguero, Neymar, Ronaldo, Ramos, etc. Plus some decent subs. So it seems some people can have stronger lvl2 teams than others - unless they're cheating somehow.

right let me put this to bed once and for all;

the commonly quoted team strength levels are correct (1250, 1350 etc). costs, managers etc dont come into it.

The reason for the discrepancies is this;

Your team strength as displayed on screen is calculated slightly differently to actual team strength used by the game to determine team levels.

Displayed team strength: Combined total ratings of the starting 11 and the 7 subs (ones on the left). The ratings used are the ratings the player had when you signed them.

Actual team strength: Combined total ratings of 18 best players in the whole squad (starters, reserves or subs). The ratings used are the ratings the player currently has.

For example, I have a squad with TS 1249. its Lv1. In the weekly updates one of my players is boosted by +2. TS is still displayed as 1249, but actual TS is now 1251 and the team is now Lv2.

Another eg. I have a squad with TS 1249. It has 18 players in, the lowest rated player on the bench is 60. I add a 70 rated player to the squad as one of the reserves (right hand size). Displayed TS is still 1249, but the 70 player has replaced the 60 player in the best 18 so actual TS is now 1259 and the team is now Lv2.

I'm 99% sure this is correct, but haven't tested it exhaustively because i'd rather just play the game! prove me wrong.

Taken from another thread, but pretty sure it's how the Team Strength works.

Thank you, that's an excellent answer. Seems to explain what I've been seeing.

It's a shame Konami have balanced the game in this way. In MLO last year you didn't come across Ronaldo, Robben, Messi, etc. until lvl 5. Now even lvl 2 teams are loaded with superstars. I guess it's another way to 'incentivise' us to shell out for MC coins.
