That satisfying feeling when you beat a speed merchant abuser online :)

Just wanted to say how good it feels when you beat those speed merchant abusers that you know have no clue about football. I've just played someone who picked Barcelona, so I chose Arsenal. Right from the start I knew it was one of these noob players, he passes the ball straight to messi and immediately tries running through my whole team. So Mertesacker takes the ball off him, then I pass pass pass pass as he chases me around the whole pitch with one player like a headless chicken. Anyway I score early in the first half 1-0 van Persie. Immediately from kick off, he tries running through my whole team again using nobody but Villa and Messi, predictable play, like someone needs to tell him 'hey, you know you can pass backwards and take your time and play some nice football don't you?'. Anyway all game he's doing this, tackle after tackle, i just take the ball back and keep possession with patient play. BANG! 2-0 van Persie after a neat little build up. Anyway, second half and I sit back and defend a bit continually stealing the ball off from his 2 man team Messi and Villa, then passing around seeing the frustration in his play as he runs around the whole pitch with Messi trying to get the ball back. Full Time 2-0. Not only is it nice to beat these kind of players, it's even better when you keep a clean sheet and stop them from scoring all game, as you know they know nothing about the game of football and only play to score those same repeatative unrealistic goals. I just wanted to say how satisfying it feels lol because I know many of us have been on the losing end of the result against these types of players, and it's so frustrating because they don't play properly, they don't understand what footballs about, and let's just hope football games continue to be improved in the future to benefit the real football gamers rather than these kind of players, eventually frustrating them all to stop playing football games or forcing them to learn the art of football.

Well I beat barcelona with an african team yesterday, much more awesome. It was ANgola I beleive.

Don't get too happy though, most of the games will be lost if u play against an equal player with an inferior team.

Yeah I don't mind losing, as long as the player plays nice football, even if they are Barcelona, and they play nice football, I don't mind losing. It's just those players who just sprint sprint sprint towards ur goal and try to take on the full team, that's what I don't like. I played a game where I was Germany and my opponent was Holland, I went 1-0 up but he came back and dominated me 3-1, ripping me appart with Robben and co. But I gave him a Fair Play rating and enjoyed the match, it was the way he beat me, in a realistic and clever way, he used his whole team and tactically ripped me apart. For me I don't mind what team I play as long as they play good football what makes for an exciting realistic game.

YES!!! I agree 100% its great, but you need to be patient and concentrate, one slip up and they're in the open field and likely to score...

Yesterday I beat a Barca loser like you described 3-0 with Juve, I had 63% possession and outshot him 15-2, he had a ranking of 545 LOL loser! BUT my favorite win so far in PES 2012 was when I didn't pick my team quick enough and ended up with the cpu picking Qatar as a random tam for me and had to go up against Barca....I thought hell Ill just defend screw it... I got him with 2 counter attacks late and won 2-0 ... the guy called me a Puto and left HAHAHA! !

i drew with inter milan whilst i used valencia. he didn't rely on eto'o and zarate but they were troubling. it was 0-0 and to be fair he derved that maycj after having 9 shots on target whilst i had one which was a free kcik. he had more possession and also missed an open net.
After that draw i gave him the fairplay award as he didn't disconnect as some people would in those type of cirummstances

I find the players who just sprint through with Messi and Ronaldo pretty easy to beat now. Also think you people should cut these players some slack. They're probably just young kids playing the game and should be allowed to play as they want.

I pick Barca and Real sometimes myself. I noticed something. Whenever I tried to rush forward I'd either win or lose a game but it would by 50/50. Now I'm more patient and pass the ball around I win more games then I lose. Let people figure out how to play. But for me, passing around and being patient is a winning formula.

i had a horrible run in MLO so have gone to play ranked matches. i wait for the opponent and who they pick and then pick someone crap with good speed (found Montpellier to be really good) and give these people a game. I played as QPR v Man City, FC Brest v Real Madrid, Athletic Bilbao v Barcelona, Montpellier v Real Madrid. Ok i didn't win but i gave each player a game where they were getting desperate and would score really cheap goals. its also helps improve my defensive skills.

Against fast paced speed merchants, use two players. AI pressure to tackle, and then send the one you're controlling directly in after the first tackle. In most cases you get the speed merchant off balance with the first one, and the second can just nick the ball away.

This results in quite a few free kicks, but at least it stops them dead.

I've beaten Barca, Real Madrid and Man City using this method. I've been playing with Spurs, Porto and Marseille myself, in that order. Spurs vs. Barca, Porto vs. Real Madrid and Marseille vs Man City.

If my team lack a quick centre back to cope with these speed merchants, I push up my defenders a bit on the tactical chart, and put a fast CMF behind my defense line, keeping the CMF role. Either way, response seems more important than speed when tackling these Speed merchant bastards.

Most young kids play games better than those older than them

Its not the choosing of barca or real that is frustrating I have no problem with that, the problem is that 90% of the time you know what is coming pass to messi or ronaldo and just run or look for a cut back

It gets boring after the first couple of times

play with your external defenders deep and wide, clog the sideline and prevent them from running down that side to do the cut back.... then man mark Messi or Ronaldo with one of your central defenders and a secondary player preferably a DF, that will crowd them and make it hard to get the ball... Then you have to get good at anticipating passes and use X to cut them off before thei get to the superplayer. It has worked in all PES games, last year wasnt needed because of the catch up bug but this year that they fixed the bug the speed players are a factor again but this tactic works this year as well, takes longer to get it down but when you do you will consistantly beat those type of players.

It's especially satisfying when you beat them in mlo with the defaults with manual pass, certainly no easy task.I've taken alot of thumping because i just usually pick a random team in ranking matches and my mlo team is still nearly all defaults.Sometimes you've lost against these superstar teams before you get into the game by getting mugged of by Eto just by running past you, or a speedster winger just heading for the corner straight away and getting crosses in.It's just to easy to score in this game.Last year with lesser players there was a skill to dribbling ,but this year it is so easy to just round a player with ridiculously good balance and just run into the box skipping past a gang load of defenders.Actually takes the joy away from when you go on a mazey run with an average player.

I partially agree with all this. But on the other hand, it doesnt really matter how your opponent play, does it? I sometimes get much more annoyed by a player who builds up his attacks very slow. Passings from CM to CB, LB, CB, LH, CM, CB,RB, RH... etcetera. There is no skill in that sort of play, but those players often think they are great (i guess having a lot of possesion equals good play according to them). The are players who do not use fast players on the sides, trying to outrun your team, are usually the endles passers as described above. There are just very few players who really try to play an attacking game without using speed merchants. Of course i do not know u guys, but playing with a very slow build-up for me is absolutely not superior to playing against a guy trying to outrun my team with Messi. They are both regular and much played tactics used by at least 80% of the players.
Also, i dont quite get the frustration you seem to have playing against GMAB's (Give Messi All Balls). Their tactic is very vulnerable. If you defend well, or Messi's form is down, they inmediatly have a big problem. So dont whine about it, be happy players are not schooled enough to mix up the tactics. GMAB's are 8/10 wins for me, I love playing them!

^ This is very true! I love playing those guys, its so easy to stop them, they attack attack attack and you rape them on counter attacks. I man mark Messi and swarm him and thats basically game over... That goes for Ronaldo, Ribery, Robihno, Eto, Robben or any other super fast player.

or to annoy the living heck out of those speed merchant abusers you can press r2 and square to jockey so he can't dribble past you. I do that and it forces him/her to shoot from long range

Beat Spain a while ago using Paraguay 2-0. For some reason I'm rubbish using teams like Argentina and Barcelona mainly because I like to attack on the right side so I rarely have messi on the ball.

What do you mean, Messi plays on the right side, so you should have Messi on the ball a lot:)

it's because of his playcards and attributes he is always in the box hoping someone can do a xavi or iniesta pass which he relies on

I'm seeing a lot of suggestions to man mark them, but i often feel that when i man mark the other team's forwards, my defense line gets dragged up so much up the pitch. And basically they just spam long AI assisted through balls to the sides, and its a race between my side backs and the speed merchant. Is my defense line set too high?

You can answer your own question by trying deep defensive line.
Its how I usually play against good players, with a deep defensive line. It cuts out the long lofted through balls.
I always see the pattern they use with speed merchants, and predict which way they move, as usually they aren't creative enough to change it around. Then you can use your teammate to pressure them and control the defender behind to block off any potential spaces they can exploit.
