Firstly lets assume we are on wide cam shooting from left to right with a RIGHT footed player using the analogue stick. The same principles will be applied to left footed players only the other way around.
1) Everything is dependant on the position your player is actually facing.
Imagine an imaginary line coming from inbetween your players feet and going straight toward where he is facing. We will call this imaginary line our Neutral line. If we push the analouge stick directly towards this line the ball will go straight along it, toe-poke style if you like.
2) a players sweet spot for shooting is about 30 degrees anticlockwise of his neutral line. (for left footers it will be 30 degrees clockwise of this neutral line) If we can align our player to face 30 degrees of where we want to blast our shot this is best. simply hold stick the way player is facing, power op the shot, then before he kicks it aim by holding the analouge stick along towards your target.
3) from the neutral line i figure we can go (for right footer) about 20 degrees clockwise and about 80 degrees anticlockwise. Dependant on shooting stats shooting outside of these angles generate bad shots which pre-determine straight at the GK. This is true of normal shots, to open up more angles of shooting we need extra controls....
4) The R2 shot. Best used along the neutral line and upto the 20 degrees clockwise of the neutral line. for best results power up alot, sometimes fill that power bar all the way, then just as your player goes to hit the ball tap R2.
5) L2 - some try to tell me this is an unused command for shooting, it's not... it opens up/ reverses the shooting angles. I use L2 when hitting shots that are not close to my before mentioned sweet spot. if say my aiming angle is 50 degrees clockwise of my neutral line a bad shot animation in generally activated. unless we press L2, once again just before the player kicks the ball. This often results in a flick of the outside of the right foot, or more often than not a left footed attempt on goal from the right footed payer.
6) for long power shots its best to get you player running, shoot by aiming at the sweet spot in relation to your players neutral line, knock it out of your feet and BAMM! 40% power bar GOAL!!!
7) Pass the ball into the net - aim the left stick where you want your shot to go, hold L2 and power up an X pass, resulting in a blissfull pass glancing a post after nutmegging the GK - its perfection i tells ya.
8) inside the area the L2 stuff works best, either the L" pass or shoot and hit L2 just before impact with ball.
Anyways hope this helps, it took me a while in the training ground to work these things out. Remember scriptings take place so sometimes it is not needed to do the advanced things i tell you here, but doing these things everytime results in many more converted chances/shots on goal.
Peace one Love! Any Q's just ask.
