The definative guide to shooting on PES 2012

Firstly lets assume we are on wide cam shooting from left to right with a RIGHT footed player using the analogue stick. The same principles will be applied to left footed players only the other way around.

1) Everything is dependant on the position your player is actually facing.
Imagine an imaginary line coming from inbetween your players feet and going straight toward where he is facing. We will call this imaginary line our Neutral line. If we push the analouge stick directly towards this line the ball will go straight along it, toe-poke style if you like.

2) a players sweet spot for shooting is about 30 degrees anticlockwise of his neutral line. (for left footers it will be 30 degrees clockwise of this neutral line) If we can align our player to face 30 degrees of where we want to blast our shot this is best. simply hold stick the way player is facing, power op the shot, then before he kicks it aim by holding the analouge stick along towards your target.

3) from the neutral line i figure we can go (for right footer) about 20 degrees clockwise and about 80 degrees anticlockwise. Dependant on shooting stats shooting outside of these angles generate bad shots which pre-determine straight at the GK. This is true of normal shots, to open up more angles of shooting we need extra controls....

4) The R2 shot. Best used along the neutral line and upto the 20 degrees clockwise of the neutral line. for best results power up alot, sometimes fill that power bar all the way, then just as your player goes to hit the ball tap R2.

5) L2 - some try to tell me this is an unused command for shooting, it's not... it opens up/ reverses the shooting angles. I use L2 when hitting shots that are not close to my before mentioned sweet spot. if say my aiming angle is 50 degrees clockwise of my neutral line a bad shot animation in generally activated. unless we press L2, once again just before the player kicks the ball. This often results in a flick of the outside of the right foot, or more often than not a left footed attempt on goal from the right footed payer.

6) for long power shots its best to get you player running, shoot by aiming at the sweet spot in relation to your players neutral line, knock it out of your feet and BAMM! 40% power bar GOAL!!!

7) Pass the ball into the net - aim the left stick where you want your shot to go, hold L2 and power up an X pass, resulting in a blissfull pass glancing a post after nutmegging the GK - its perfection i tells ya.

8) inside the area the L2 stuff works best, either the L" pass or shoot and hit L2 just before impact with ball.

Anyways hope this helps, it took me a while in the training ground to work these things out. Remember scriptings take place so sometimes it is not needed to do the advanced things i tell you here, but doing these things everytime results in many more converted chances/shots on goal.

Peace one Love! Any Q's just ask.

Whatabout knuckle shots?
I thought they were L2 then shoot then shoot again a millisecond before they hit the ball so it doesn't add up with the power bar

excellent discription...I have a hard time understanding why people find shooting difficult..it's just common sense.

Can someone verify this L2 thing? I tried it out a lot and can't say for sure is there any effect on little testing I tried out..

It does work but the person you're shooting with make sure he has more than average power like anything over 81 (the more power he has the more effective the shot will be) plus this works best with mid-range curler.

So basically this is what you do

1) When you are in control of your player, make sure you are not too close to the penalty box as this works more effectively from far ranges as it curls and dips more.

2) Make sure you have a bit of space ahead of you and then fill up half of the power bar (adjust it depending on the distance)

3) Just before the player is about to shoot the ball, tap shoot again and he will release a thunderous dipping strike that will trick the keepers if done to perfection

A tip is when your player is shooting the ball double tap r1 to to a small knock-on as he will apply more power and accuracy. This is more wicked in vollleys but harder to time but it works in all types of shots but don't expect it to work everytime but if you do, you could score nearly every shot you do depending on the curl and of course, the keepers response

Could someone translate this to shortest version?
What he tried to say is go to fucking training mode, spam "shoot" with variations of other buttons for ages and see for yourself that reading this carefully instead asking for shorter version isn't bad idea.

Are you mad? English isn't my first language, i don't undrestand all the words, so I want shorter version. I really don't like these arrogant idiots, who think they ate every sense.

Hmm ok, I've always sensed theres some difference if one taps shoot again but I'm still not convinced about it though.

What I was pointing in my question though was that can someone verify that pressing L2 just before shoot has any difference on the shot as the OP claimed.

EDIT: I also tried tapping R1 now before shooting, certainly the shooting animation stutters a bit of this, but cant see a definitive difference in ball trajectory to just pressing the shoot once.

I fail to believe that there exists hidden shooting styles which are not defined by Konami in Command List.. feel free to call me stupid :D

Press L2 all the way - before you press circle and after you press circle.

You just have to press shoot again just before he kicks the ball so it deosn't add up to the power bar

Bro,compared to what I was writing when I wrote my first posts your english is way better .When I didn't understand words or phrases I looked into english-polish dictionary.Uncle Google is helpful too.I don't wanna sound like an arrogant d!ck.It's just the common sense, dictionaries are there to use them.Shorter version would not describe the positioning, angles and button combinations properly.

I am sure that L2 works to open shooting angle, either other foot or outside of foot.
However now i press it when i feel it is needed every time so i wouldn't know anymore if not pressing it would make the shot worse! if you know what i mean!

Thanks! I'm glad that people are willing to give it a read! It's only my opinion, i do not work on the game engine! But i hear alot of moaning about the shooting so as to think this thread worthy of my time ;)

Yeah that's what i'm thinking too. All though i must say that i think L2 has an influence when pressed before O button on crosses. Maybe i'm just paranoid.

L2 makes it slightly more manual so you can input a little direction into the cross. R2 is a high lofted cross

Speaking of crossing, i noticed that you seriously have to exagerate the analogue stick to the direction to actually aim. If you pull your stick south-west(only if your your attacking to the right beside the box nearest to you), after hitting the cross button, only then will it cross at the edge of the box for a nice volley.

I also attempted shooting in training. I noticed that a flat up or down will make the shooting go left or right, exactly what it supposed to do. However, if you try a diagonal analog shot, half of the time, it will go straight to the middle of the goal.

Oh yeah, speaking of the up or down direction, it does not really aim, it just means that up will go to the further post from the screen, and down will go nearer post from the screen. It also is affected by the body positioning, and shot power, more shot power causes the ball to go more central kinda like what OnlyProEvo posted. My tip for one on one is, open your body towards the direction you want to shoot, tap shoot, and quickly point the analogue stick up or down. I know for most of you and myself included, when on the run, we tend to hit a diagonal analogue direction shot; i guess we just gotta get used to pointing it right.

One more thing, if your player is right foot or left foot, they always tend to hit using that foot, unless weak foot frequency is high, which results in awkward poor shots too.

In that respect, pes 2012 shooting is in my opinion, flawed. You can only choose which direction the shot goes, the body position of the player, and the shot power. It is still a bloody lottery after you shoot. Shot accuracy of the player only increases the chances of the shot not going wide.

Have you actually read and tried utillising the info in the OP?

I put it to you that pressing up or down is not the way to do it!

Sure sometimes the game engine will fool you into thinking you did the correct thing - sometimes these subtle touches are applied automatically, normally at the same moments your opponent cant put 3 passes together!
