the mocking element of bad luck

..is it really just (my) bad luck, or is this game deliberately pushing me down? .. i know playing on top level is supposed to be hard, but i'm talking straight up theatrical jynx!..

..like losing a game to Sevilla 2:1, without them firing a single shot towards our goal; ''they'' scored the first one after a cross that was too powerfull and landed on one of my defender's foot, who, despite being completely alone and unobstructed, ''cleared'' the ball into our own top corner..supposedly, i accept that..as bad luck, and just put all my efforts into scoring a goal myself (which i have been doing, for the entire match)..and after countless miracolous saves from their keeper and a few crossbars/posts, or even an almost perfect opporutunity in which one of my best CFs misses an empty goal..i somehow manage to score!

Now, given the fact, that after attacking for the entire match, and successfully stopping the opponent from doing so, i would deserve a victory..but fine, i settle for the modest draw, granting that goal in the beggining was simply a blunder, which would happen once in a million attempts, right? WRONG!..so there i go, a bit dissapointed that all i managed to get out of this (greatly onesided) match was a single point..when, deep into the stoppage time, one of the opponents midfielders sends out, what seems to be a frustrating last attempt of a cross from somewhere around the middle field..i see the ball in going to land just outside the 16m area, and one of their players running to collect it, so i use the only defender there (don't ask me why), to spoil his attempt..after realising we're both gonna get there at the sime time, i decide to pass to my keeper (since, from previous experiences i'm aware that my defenders usually lose the header battle, which is also a great way to conceive unjust goals, btw..and also because we were both running back for the ball, and trying to pass/shoot the ball towards the side your opponent is running from, also usually results in losing the ball before you manage to kick it..you probably know what i mean)..anyhow, at first, it seems my attempt was successfull, and i manage to jump higher that the opponent, thus sending a mild lob towards my keeper..it was honestly so slow, anyone could catch it (remember also, that this happened outside the 16m area!)..and i'm sure my keeper would've caught it too..if he didn't, for some reason, decide to start running away from goal, when the ball was in mid-air (and no, i haven't pressed the button to do so)..so the end result was; the ball bounced comfortably into the net, my keeper just stood a few meters outside his goal, without even lifting his hands, and myself staring into the screen with my mouth open, trying to comprehend the event that just took place..the whistle was blown moments after the following kick-off..and i lost..

..now, i agree this has probably been an extreme moment, which surely wouldn't happen again anytime soon..but nonetheless, i struggle with posts and amazing saves from average keepers, while conceiving unbelievable goals, often in the last few seconds of the game, way to frequent..practically all the time!

so, actually i'm not even sure what i tried to say with this thread:p..maybe some can comment it, or even post their own ''bad luck stories''..it does make you feel better:p

Yeah top player dont really make them better, just makes your team a bit mental. Keepers are usless regardless of rating! I can play a game with like 18 shots, 14 on target and they only need 2 shots and i can lose 2-1 or summit!

its worse on fifa. ie the keeper on fifa will throw the ball out, it will hit the opposition and bounce in the net.

Bad luck happens in real life, i guess its finding the right balance on the game. I have had far more badluck stories on fifa then on pes. atleast on pes you dont get a defender freeze. on fifa my defender froze for 5 seconds in midrun, the opposition took the ball and scored. All the bad luck on pes has happend to the other team with the opposition usually putting the ball into their own net instead of clearing

Ye its sods law, 90min they score some how but its how it happens, look at the Man UTD/City derby matches with last min goals

This is football. It happens in the real world, you'd be annoyed if it never happens in the game.

The computer scores more own goals than I do, so I can't complain.

actually, the defenders do freeze sometimes as well in PES (though for a shorter time- a second or two), and my keeper has passed to/threw a ball at an opponent before..also, it often happened to me, that just as i'm about to tackle an opponent, the player cursor changes, and the defender i was first controling turns away, and lets the opponent pass thru without even trying..also, it doesn't happen in basically every match in the real world, that would really be annoying..i don't mind if this colossal bad luck match happens every once in a while, and the other matches are played normally..what bothers me, is that i receive a goal, or more, on 90% of the matches, where there's really little i can do to prevent it..

..i haven't played FIFA in a few years really, and i don't even have a tendency to do so..despite it all, PES is still better, no doubt.

i'm more pissed off when they blatantly commit a foul that constitutes a red card but no foul is even called by the ref. biggest bullshit ever, has anyone seen an AI get a red card?

Its more annoying how I get straight red cards for late tackles.

I just started my first MasterLeague as Ajax on topplayer, played 16 won 14 and 2 draws. Scored 42 and have 6 conseded. Lost in Europa League twice, I was pushing the whole match and still lost 1-0. Came twice for an open goal and both shots went into the orbit. Try not to use the sliding tackle. AI had one red card in the league.

I played for months on professional because top player was simply insane. I could be (for example) Man Utd and be playing a small/medium team and not be able to get the ball for 10-15 minutes at a time.

I just could not hack it.

I also remember thinking Konami had fucked up big time and made the game practically impossible on top player - then I read these forums and saw other players were, in fact, playing at top level and doing ok.

After much gritting of teeth I went back and persevered. Result, I can now play on top player very well. I found the main thing is concentration.

Just keep with it...or not

ît's true, i suppose..most of the time you CAN avert disasters by ''pressing the right buttons''..however during the entire match, you're bound to mess up every now and then, but almost every time you do, you get punished for it..and, naturally, as you do, you get more and more nervous - therefore, making more and more mistakes, which leads to more and more punishment..

..concentration does help a great deal, but playing a ''fair'' match on top player is probably impossible..but, i suppose it's just meant to be a challenge..i'd probably be a lot happier playing on professional, but the fact that there's a ''tougher'' mode available, just makes my ego hurt too much:p
