The mystery of pass strength - pass goes to unintended recipient

I am struggling to find a pass setting that will make my pass go towards the correct recipient.

Quite frequently, a gentle touch on the pass button will make the ball travel to the further of two players positioned linearly. This is frustrating and I am not sure if it is to do with the way I have set my pass assistance (I have tried all 5 settings).

I would expect that a light touch of the button will always pass towards the nearest player and a more prolonged pass would go to the furthest, but somehow this is not what happens on the pitch and the inconsistency is driving me nuts.

Also, I am finding lofted balls even more of a mystery. Sometimes a prolonged touch will only pass to the nearer of two players and sometimes the same amount of pressure will result in a wild pass in the stands.

Anyone have any tips on how to execute passes so that the strength feels consistent?

I am back and forth between 0 and 1, both have their advantages and draw backs. At 0 I hit more or less the player I am aiming for, but I struggle with a few very soft passes that leave my defense completely naked. At 1 I sometimes pass to I player I didn't intend at all, but the micro passes issue is gone.

I still find passes that are aimed within a 90 degree angle of a player in an offside position, then boom, the ball goes to him. Doesn't matter how many other players u have in around u, if he's offside the cpu will override ur input.

I have trouble with long balls too. Aiming the pass seems to be very sensitive when choosing the player u want to pass to. This definitely takes priority over the power of the pass. Full power long pass doesn't seem to make a difference whether the player is 5ft from u or 50ft.

I have a lot of trouble leading the runner with a lofted pass (long and thru). Have to practice more with manual long pass I think.

When you say "micro passes", do you mean passing to an unintended recipient?

I mean when my player barely touches the ball and the opponent swipes in to take it. When I try to make a 5 ft. pass and the ball rolls 1/2 ft. because "I didn't put enough power into the pass".

Id like to know this too as I didnt have any trouble with the first demo. Sometimes I make a pass and the intended receiver lets it go by thru his feet. ???????? I think I have the assistance bar at 2. Ill lower it to see if it gets better

i got the game this morning, so now I can comment on the final product.
The mystery with the power gauge has carried on and made it into the final game. I just can't get my head around it how it works, but what I've noticed is that the rating of the player passing the ball make a difference somewhat.

I tried playing one whole game on full manual (zero assistance) and whilst it felt really hard, it definitely gave me a sense of achievement when I managed to make a decent pass.

If someone finds a solution to this power gauge inconsistency, it would be much appreciated if they could post here...
